Sony cancels live service Twisted Metal game

Dang, I was looking forward to this series coming back. Makes me wonder what ideas they had for it. Anyone else disappointed by this news?

Son of a *****. I was really looking forward to a new Twisted Metal.

But NOT as a live service. I wanted an actual game with SP & MP only...but not live service. Truth be told, Aater watching the TV Twisted Metal show, I kinda want to play one, the last one is 12 years old...damn I'm getting old as hell.

Good. The only live service game they should have is Helldivers 2 because the game is perfectly structured around a live service.

I really enjoyed Twisted Metal 2 and Black back in the day. However, I don't think I would be excited for a new game. Especially if it was live service.

Really starting to wonder what sonys actual strategy this Gen is... It feels like three years of hyping up gaas games and 3 years of walking it all back and canceling them.... I wonder if ps5 will be remembered for anything other than a paper tiger?

As much as this game is nostalgia trip, the fact it was going to be a live-service game was sort of a deal breaker for me. I can think of only one game in recent memory that is live-service (and not an MMO) that was worth anything, and it's Helldivers 2.

I do wish there were more car combat games, though. It's a fun sub-genre that blends combat sim and car driving into a nice, fun time. Games like Interstate 76, for example, or even the short-lived MMO Auto Assault.

They clearly don't drink enough LiberTea, not like us PC Gamers. We have to stay hydrated in order to protect Managed Democracy.

A GaaS game was the right approach for the IP and its a damn shame we won't see it.

While it sucks that so many have been laid off.... would be cool if some of them banded together and started their own studios. AAA companies suck ass.

how are cows tchbo? we can buy the game can we not? Fact is xbox still has not had a third party AAA exclusive or first party AAA exclusive this year yet.

sony just got final fantasy and helldivers2 yet xbox players are still waiting.

so in the end ps5 got AAA third party and xbox games in 2024.

Yeah, this is easily the worst generation Sony has had to date. Complete collapse of their output.

So this was only the fourth known game of the 12 live service games Sony was planning, right? There was Helldivers 2 (release), The Last of Us Factions (cancelled), The unannounced Horizon game that was leaked (anyone know the status of that one?), and now this. I feel I am missing some.

I hope this doesn't affect the rumored PSVR2 Twisted Metal. Even if that isn't AAA I think it would be cool.

Twisted Metal should be a small/mid-budget SP game with online and local MP. Keep it weird, keep it fun. Don't cripple the game with triple-A bullshit because you spent too much money on it and need to squeeze your customers to justify what you have done to your shareholders.

At this point, I wouldn't be excited for a new Twisted Metal. It was cool on the PS1 and PS2, but it just doesn't have the same appeal to me as it did back then. Twisted Metal 1, 2, and Black were amazing games for their time.

I remember a time (last gen) when cows were jumping up and down talking about all of Sony's first party games, sales, score etc, and the Xbox has no games banter, and yet here were are a gen later and the shoe is on the other hoof, and now cows are shilling third party games because Sony has NOTHING for you to play other than money hatted third party games, and you cows are using third party as some sort of ownage, when you are only owning yourself.

YET is the key word here for MS, we already know there are games releasing this year, Sony has nothing until next year sometime at the EARLIEST.

shoe is on the other hoof? sony has one year drought since 2015 hzd 1 came out and xbox fans go crazy. so sony added third party for this year drought. they new it was coming.

fact is xbox fans saying sony has no games yet 2 major third party console exclusives came out. while no third or first party console exclusive games have come to xbox in 2024 so far.

now your not sure which xbox game is coming to ps5 or not. im sure indiana at some point as well.

I'm a bit disappointed. A live service Twisted Metal could have worked if they weren't dicks about it.

I hope they make a real sequel now though.
