So I finally bought a PS3...

I bought the 80GB package with MGS4, not for MGS4. I wanted an 80GB. I've never actually even played any MGS ever.

I decided to get the PS3 instead of the 360 simply because of the fact that PS3 online is free, and I'm simply terrified of defective hardware(PS2 memories still in my head), the PS3 seems more sturdy than PS2 however and the RROD infected 360...

Anyway, my question is what are some games anyone would recommend? Oblivion? Lost Planet? I don't really know what games are good, I've mostly been playing Wii and PC games... I already have GTA4.

Get uncharted and ratchet and clank, also resistance is quite good too ... and many other mutliplats that came out over the years.

Okay, so you want to do two things immediately:

1. Watch the Gametrailers MGS retrospective -- that should get you clued in on the MGS storyline and characters -- first and foremost, you want to play/prepare MGS4, because it is THAT good (got it yesterday, so much fun).

2. Take a look at some of the PS3 exclusives -- my favourite are Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank: TOD, Warhawk, and Folklore, in that order. I thought Heavenly Sword was pretty good but it's really a rental because the game is very short.

That should get you started, hope you enjoy your PS3

It's worth playing MGS2 AND MGS3 on PS2 very fun games that I've completed repeatedly

I would say play MGS 1 but that may be alittle dated to be fun but good storyline

no, go get the essentials collection for 30 bucks. its the first 3 mgs games, and theyll all work on ur ps3 (i have an 80gig ,and the essential pack). ull appreciate the story alot more, and its quite fun. im only playing the first 2, and each is around 12 hours on easy. use a faq if u want.

I would recommend Drakes and COD4 (if you do not have it). Dont bother with Resistance, its a mediocre game. Lair is actually good now with the new Lair patch. Also Heavenly Sword is great

Well, another reason was that three of my cousins have a PS3 so I would like to play with them online, and I only have one cousin who has a 360.

I may do that... depending on how anxious I am to play MGS4, but I almost feel like I would be giving the games injustice if I didn't play them through.

Id suggest getting all previous MGS's before playing MGS4 like I am :P, also get the following games if you can:

Motorstorm

GT5 Prolouge (im waiting for the full version)
Oblivion (I dont like RPG's but it was pretty good)

Anyway, back on topic... You should definitely look into renting Uncharted, Resistance, and Ratchet and Clank. Aside from that, bad company comes out in a few weeks, and in a few more months so do Resistance 2, Socom, etc...

Edit** COD 4 is definitely fun, but the online gets very repetetive.

Second, congrats on the purchase. Don't be a fool and not use all of it's features. This includes HD and the media server feature.

The demos do take quite awhile, but not too terrible. I mean, you can download it in the background so you can do other things while you wait.

Enjoy it man... I suggest Uncharted, Resistance and Warhawk on the PS3 exclusive side of things. MGS4 is better than those games though, so enjoy that, lol.

Even if you are not a MGS fan the story is so entertaining it will stand on its own merit.

The entire war economy plot is so eerily relevant to today its scary. I have never been a MGS fan I just did a little reading to catch up but even without doing that the cut scenes are SO brilliant, the characters so alive, you will enjoy this game simply for what it is.

I have been hating my ps3 since I purchased it 8 months ago while I play my PC and 360. But this single game makes having a ps3 more then worth it.

A true fan will get more out of the story then those of us who are not fans but the game is just that brilliant.

I think the 360 library totally crushs the ps3's.

Dead Rising is on my short list.

But the ps3 is worth it just for MGS.

I hate resistance, motorstorm was decent and games like Uncharted and R&C just left me cold.

I do really like HS though.
