Dark souls is miles better then Skyrim in terms of atmosphere and combat, let's be honest here, the Skyrim combat is horrible and the atmosphere is dull because the game is extremely easy. Adding to that we have a Lulzworthy Ai and huge lack of opponents with specific skillsets. After spending quite some hours in the game the combat feels like dull clickfest. I'd rather have the Dark Souls grindfest over that.
Furthermore using crappy builds as a excuse to claim that the game isn't easy doesn't make sense, crappy builds should be crappy en good builds should be good. Sorry, but I find it sad that anyone who uses a decent build gets punished with boring, imbalanced combat.
I personally made a paladin type build, focussing on heavy armor and restoration, with the intent of using 2 handed weapons. I ended up punching my enemies to death to make the game even remotely challenging.
However!!!!! the troublesome aspect about Dark Souls is that I have to make time for the game as it requires great focus. This is completely opposed to Skyrim that is more of a game to fill the time, it quite easy going. I'm certain that i'll end up playing Skyrim more, things aren't as clear cut as they seem.
Simply said,
Dark Souls is much, much, much, better.
Skyrim is much, much, much, more likable.
