Poll Should Nintendo release the "Switch 2" next year or 2022? (25 votes)

They need to release it next year! 32%
2022. 68%

I think the switch won't be effected very much by the new generation in the next year! I think it will still sells! especially if they announced and released botw2 and a new 3d mario and pokemon!

So I think they will release switch 2 in 2022! but I also have a feeling they will release it next year!

What do you think?

Is it a good idea to not release it next year?

No. This console is perfectly fine as is until 2025, minimum. Wouldn't mind it staying until 2027. People are buying it like hotcakes which means there's nothing wrong with this system.

Multiplats were difficult enough for the Switch to compete as a real platform this gen, next gen the Switch will really amplify how weak it is.

But I don’t know, it’s not like anyone over 15 uses a Switch as a primary console.

I can’t vote because a) I don’t really care and b) I don’t know.

Nintendo already stated they are releasing a Switch Pro in their investors meeting not long ago.

"The hint came during the recent Nintendo Management Briefing Session, and via company president, Shuntaro Furukawa, who revealed that Nintendo views the Switch as in the middle of its life-cycle. Further, Furukawa shared that Nintendo plans on extending this life-cycle. Complimenting this, the Nintendo president also revealed that traditionally Nintendo has sought out conventional technology in order to come in at a low price, however, Furukawa revealed Nintendo also been exploring state-of-the-art technology, which hints the next iteration of the Switch will be the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro."

Both options are too early, especially considering current sales.

They should release Switch 2 when the sales of Switch goes down.

Considering the Switch runs on a slightly downclocked Tegra X1, which was already obsolete back in 2017, I'd say it does need a bit of a refresh.

Though knowing Nintendo, their lack of concern for performance, and their insistence on per-unit-sold profitability, they'd probably just slap in the Tegra X2 and call it the day. I'd give only a 25% probability they'll upgrade to Xavier, and 0% chance of Orin.

They recently said that they're shifting their R&D focus away from low-cost tech and toward the cutting-edge. Also, there's no such thing as "Tegra X2" (no, Parker was never named that and wasn't usable in Switch's form-factor), and Nvidia didn't have a better chip ready to use at the time of Switch's launch.

They're welcome to release a successor whenever. I probably will skip their next system and stick with collecting games on Switch for a while.

I’d wait for Nvidia to give them a chip worth designing a system around. Switch is in a good spot for the demo they’re chasing.

A Pro model is worth introducing whenever but not truly a successor.

I don’t think that we’ll be seeing a “Switch 2” anytime soon. It is looking very likely that we’ll probably see a “Switch Pro” though as early as next year.

The Switch is selling great, has by far the best game library of the "Big 3" with many more games on the way, developers are still finding new ways to stretch the hardware...

Seriously, why would Nintendo want to get in the way of their own success with a new console?

Why release a new product if the existing product is still selling well?

Switch is selling gangbusters. Why mess with success?

I wouldn’t say no though to a Switch Pro though if it was a decent upgrade. If it’s just an overclocked Switch with a 1080p screen I’d pass, as I keep mine docked 98% of the time.

If Switch does anything it won't be a Switch 2, but a Switch Pro. From what I heard they'll have a beefier, more powerful desktop only version if anything. Not being portable means they don't have to worry about power requirements, battery life, and have lots of room for cooling to boost some of the specs.

2022. maybe even 2023. 2017-2022......seems about right. assuming they are sticking with the whole hybrid thing (big assumption mind).

there is nothing currently available that would make a meaningful upgrade from what is in the switch. sure there is more powerful mobile hardware but its just not a big enough jump yet.

Nvidia themselves dont have anything new ready for that segment. they pretty much gave up on tegra a while back it seems. so custom work will be needed to make something suitable for nintendo. to make it worthwhile to actually release a successor.

again, assuming we are looking at linear advancement from nintendo this time (wouldnt bet on it) i think both Nvidia and nintendo would want to deliver the full ampere feature set in a handheld. solid ray tracing, good rasterisation and DLSS 2.0+ (the latter being perfect for nintendos requirements specifically).

upgrades to the CPU too of course. more efficient cores. more cores maybe. or fewer/faster cores if they can fit it within the power budget.

depending on how effective they can make DLSS and what the caveats are, if any, nintendo may be thinking "take a PS5 game, run it at 720P with the highest settings you can fit and let DLSS get it to 4K. what hardware do we need for that?".

of course, as it's nintendo, they may also just go in a completely different direction again. thye could stick with the horsepower of the switch, add a modem, shrink the SOC to 7nm and make a phone. or they could just make a traditional console (very unlikely). or they may decide they miss the 3DS and release a new one with an upgraded version of the pica 200 (also very unlikely).

but yeah. 2022. i dont think there is much point in a switch pro next year either.

Neither of those options. Just release a 4k dock.

I think a Switch Pro would make sense next year, but a Switch 2 should come no sooner than 2023.

2022 seems about right to me.

There is still Metroid Prime 4, Zelda BOTW 2, Disgaea 6, Bayonetta 3, No More Heroes 3, and the 2 Monster Hunter games to look forward to on Switch (Still hoping for a Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition also).

No need for a upgrade just yet imo.

Tbh, I'm fine with the Switch as it is for the time being. If they bring out a new one in 2021 etc, of course I'll buy it. But I'm happy to wait a couple of years.

No reason to release a new one anytime soon. The current one is selling like crazy. They just need to keep the momentum going which they did with their partner showcase.

Some of you still think Metroid is coming to the Switch 😁

This game was announced just so you have games to look forward to (like ff15 and the last guardian were). It won't come out on the Switch, but only the next Nintendo system, and certainly not at launch, so that could be another five plus years easily.

Next year, make it 299 with a 199 edition and a free game and they have another wii on there hands.

PS5 and xbox series X are way to expensive.
