You may recall that MGS4 came with an online component, Metal Gear Online. A third person shooter that tried very hard to incorporate MGS elements into online competitive multiplayer. It was alright, sort of (headshots galore, anyone?). I would probably liken its popularity to The Last of Us's online multiplayer. Most people didn't bother, but there were a dedicated few. Anyway, do you think Kojima should attempt a Metal Gear Online 2 with the hope that it's much better this time around?

MGO was the only good thing about MGS4.

@SolidGame_basic: it's already been confirmed. It is being developed by Kojima Productions LA with advice from the main part of KP, so that they can focus all of their efforts on the single player.

At this point it'd be MGO 3, since MGO premiered with MGS 3 Subsistence, and then MGS 4 had their own rendition of MGO.

It's been confirmed that MGS 5 will have MGO anyways.

Like others have stated, the lastest incarnation of MGO was technically MGO2 and MGSV has already been confirmed to have a competitive online component.

Pretty stoked about it, MGO2 was one of my favorite online shooters last gen; spent a couple hundred hours on that bitch. Hopefully they bring back some form of Survival nights, those were way too much fun.

I think that both mgs3 and mgs4 versions of MGO suck.I'd rather them focus 100% of their assets and money on single player, and maybe co-op a la peacewalker. Stealth mechanics in games like this and assassins creed don't really go well in a multiplayer setting imo.

Considering how well Ground Zeroes plays, I hope they will do something with it.

I don't understand how you can really like a game and then dislike it later.

Also MGO was garbage, all of the encounters became auto-aim headshot fests with its incredibly unbalanced skill system.

I didn't like MGS4. I was caught up in the fan service and was distracted from the poor pacing, bad characterization and terrible retcons and story.

How was it auto-aim headshots? Sure headshots were the name of the game but it definitely took some skill to pull it off.

Auto-aim lock-on was weapon specific and only aimed for the center mass. It was nearly impossible to get a headshot using auto-aim.

Technically, this will be the 4th MGO. Subsistence, Portable Ops and MGS4 had MGO.

You can't auto aim a head shot. Auto aim in general was pretty useless in MGS4s online component. It had some use in Subsistence online though, but still wouldn't land a headshot.

MGO did become garbage, but it's mostly because the game wasn't maintained. The mechanics and level design were great, but it was overrun with glitchers and lag switchers. Even the official tournaments were dominated by glitchers, it was pathetic. Lots of other infrastructure issues as well.

Also, while I do love some MGO, I'm far more hyped for the possibility of co-op. From what I hear it was pretty successful in Peace Walker. Having co-op in an open world stealth game would be the shit! Even if it's limited to side ops only, I wouldn't care.

I think they just called it plain old MGO as not to confuse people. A lot of people didn't know about MGO in Subsistence and Portable Ops. In a way, Kojima treated those games like betas even though they were fully functional online games. Shit, I even liked the original MGO more than the one packaged with MGS4.

Another reason might be that this was the first MGO that was available for stand alone purchase.

Either way, the upcoming MGO game is actually going to be the 4th MGO game.

But I think MGO should make a come back. Since Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain are way more fast paced than MGS4 in terms of gamplay style, i would say the gameplay should work out pretty well on the multiplayer format (way better than MOG in MGS4 did).

I really enjoyed MGO. It felt like a different TPS and sure it had its issues but for whatever it was just seriously fun. I liked how you could buy your own clothes etc... from what I remember they introduced monetary means and that was quite expensive! However I thought it was a real blast to play!

he has confirmed it will be coming with MGS5

and i am really happy to hear this, hopefully he retains some of the things from MGS4 like the customizations and chat features

MGO was probably my most favorite online game on the ps3 and its community played a large part in that.

Kind of funny seeing as the community was extremely toxic... but I do get what you're saying. Even with all the ass hats and egos running around, the core community (same guys that stuck it out through MGO1) was pretty cool.

MGO was pure crap. Kojima needs to save the dev cycles and focus on something else. It was really really bad.

MGO was good only annoyance that you kill with melee or headshot or grenade since body shot was useless. Putting single player mechanic into MP was done well and surprising.

Why would anyone play that trash? Play a superior stealth game online like Splinter Cell instead.
