Nice Sony scamming the cows again.

4 million got us mighty no. 9. Think about it, how is he going to make a game like shenmue with only 5 million?
In hindsight I feel a little stupid sometimes when I tell people that a game is up for digital pre-order, I feel like a shill advertising for a company....but my excitement for certain games sometimes gets the best of me.
But this, asking others on this board to invest money in a game under development? I mean, we have no clue what the final product will look like....good luck with that, perhaps you would get more exposure for your cause TC in a more popular forum....here only a few hundred people may read this thread. Anyways I mean no offense, good luck with your endeavors, I mean that.....I know very little about Shenmue, except I keep seeing people raving about it......when the game nears completion I will start my research there to see if it is a game that is up my alley.
So SEGA reported the first game on Dreamcast cost $70 million to make (although Suzuki revised it and said it was $47 million) and now they're doing a PS4/PC game on $5 million?
This is going to be fun to watch.
They number included development hell, transferring consoles, spending money on things that would later be cheaper or where outdated, tons of partnerships for effects and graphics, voice actors, some of that being cancelled and replaced, changes throughout development, marketing, distribution, paying of employees, lunch, commercials, retail shipments.
The game we ended up with was not a 47 million dollar game.
A shenmue II now with HD res in modern times would have probably costed 10 million these days (if it was made now and not years ago) so a Shenmue 3 in modern times can be done for less than 47 million dollars, when there are expansive open world games costing less than that.
So it's at 5 million which means you are currrently getting the shit version of the game since he said he needed 10 to do it properly but would do his best with 5.
It's not looking good. Get your wallets out people Sony need your money.
Yu Suzuki has already clarified that $5 million will get you a game that's roughly the size of the first Shenmue. At $10 million, you'd get a game that's at least as large as Shenmue II. You're still getting an open-world game either way, but the only difference is the scale of the open world. The more funds they raise, the larger the world will be.
Broken Age cost over 6 million. Just keep that in mind.
They really abused their budget on big name voice talent, which can add up fast.
Yu will most likely get this past 10 mil just through paypal donations alone, there's still so much time before this game even see's the light of day.
I would probably pledge but I haven't even played the first 2 games. Hopefully they make an HD collection.
It has nothing to do with Sony though. Sony only pretend they are involved by doing advertising. But, they don't even contribute to the funding.
How did they pretend they were involved? lol.
That's still free advertising, that kickstarter got as much attention as it did because of being on Sony's Stage.
Sony is just so based. YuYu Hakusho basically got the best free advertising available.
About halfway to the real goal.
What a shame.
I didn't contribute mostly because I really didn't enjoy either of the Shenmue games.
Maybe he should just cut his losses and instead of wasting money developing for a console, make the game he wants to on PC?
He IS making the game for PC. Sony will handle PS4 port.
This could have reached 10M if Suzuki have said from the get-go at E3 that he needed at least 5M to help fund the game. That way it would have reached 5M easily in less then one day (instead of the 2M in one day) and the funds would have gradually increased from there to 10M by the deadline..
He fucked up big time only asking for a shitty 2M.
He didn't **** up by going $2 million. Last Shenmue sequel came out 14 years ago. The amount of people that have played Shenmue today is very low. This kickstarter would be doing much worse if it wasn't announced on stage at E3.
I think Final makes a great point. Their initial goal was set far too low. It's stupid to only ask people for 2 million, and then later come out and say, "gee guys, we need 80% more money to truly realize it as a real ambitious Shenmue game". Wtf? If you need ten, at least ask for 6-7. Asking for more would've made people understand better what was required and I bet we'd not be sitting currently at 5.4 million but more at 7-8, if not higher.
You really are a moron. It's gonna be "shit" because of a few extra mini games? gtfo
He wanted 10 mil to do a proper open world game 5 mil gets you smaller areas read the fucking Kickstarter info before coming on here spouting your drivel.
Dude all you do is sound like a sour grape in every post you make. I'm beginning to think you have someone's steel-toed boot lodged firmly up your ass.
You seriously think another 5 million dollars would make your Assassin's Creed clone? People are fully capable of making quality games without super budgets you know. The game will be great regardless of the final budget.
You really think 5 million dollars is nothing??

Start at 5:20 to hear about Shenmue's budget.
This game is getting a lot of hate here, is it because it hasn't been announced for the Xbone?
mmmmhhhmmm...
At the beginning of E3 I was watching MS' conference and we discussed a bit about Shenmue 3. I remember being afraid that MS had snatched Shenmue 3 as an exclusive, never thought that Sony might do it instead. Although it's not a pure exclusive since it's also coming to PC, but I'd rather play it on consoles so good thing for me :P
Broken Age cost over 6 million. Just keep that in mind.
Yeah, but that mostly just says something about Tim Schaefer's management skills.
Gonna finish with 6M. Not bad, but i don't know.
Suzuki and Ys Net don't have an extreme budget this time.
TBH, I must say, I can't hardly believe it's really happening after all these years. :D
Anyhooey, FYI....

They would have to make the game in Poland to make that 10million stretch. I don't care what anyone says, 10million for a massive game like Shenmue is going to get you crap.
Eh, YS said that the scale would be similar to that of Shenmue's, and I'm okay with that. They also don't have to build an engine from scratch this time around.
That's a lot of money. :O
Someone tell good guy Phil(or Shu) to start a campaign for Jade Empire 2, & Condemned 3.
I like this post.
Jade Empire 2 has big potential.
You should. :P
One of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. It was well received by critics, & fans... yet, we never got a sequel. :(
