I tell ya, I wonder what the hell is going on at Sony? A lot of front office people leaving lately and their recent behavior seems rather quiet. But then again, Shawn Layden has been there for 30 years, he wants to do something else.

Layden is and always was an out of touch tool bag. SONY will be better off without him. Let's get someone in there that pushes the multiplayer side of the bar.... bring back SOCOM damn you.. The single player campaign side of things is already solidified. Also, enough with censorship, let the devs express themselves however they feel fit and let the ESRB do it's job...

He can take all his remasters and hit the road.

He was probably forced out before the MeToo scandal dropped.

I do hope we get an expansion loving successor. Always nice seeing multiple Playstation Exclusives each quarter as opposed to 3-4 exclusive per year.

Probably to do with Sony combining all regions together, rather than Sony Japan, Europe, America etc. He held two positions out of those and they no longer exist since 2018, moving to game development perhaps wasn't his idea of career moves.

This is perfectly normal for people to leave positions and move on in life. The timing of this is normal too. Most guys in charge tend to leave near the end of a console life cycle and before the beginning of the next one.

Everyone from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo operates like this.

Good luck to him. He did a great job and he is one of the reasons why PS4 shattered records and went on to sell over 100 Million worldwide.

PlayStation literally has no face, just as it hasn't for the last 2 years, so basically this means nothing, have no need for someone to do conferences since Sony doesn't do any conferences, they can just pay the girl in accounting to do some basic voice over, likely for pennies on dollar.

The sentiment from this thread and the way the news came out is kind fitting for the dude. He ran SIE in a very low key way lately. No follow up statement from him, his tenure is very short makes things suspicious.

Who replaces him and how will they handle Playstation is the question.

He did a good job holding the office and I wish him well on future endeavors.

I'm more surprise few users in this thread have never heard of Shawn Layden! This guy has been appearing in E3 several times in the past. I'm more amaze if you watch any of Sony's press, you'll always find Shawn Layden at the presentation stage.

This is what the proper reaction should be for ANY exec in this industry. We shouldn't even know their names. I can't stand execs that want to be the face of their product and act like they're your best bud.

The thing is none of this matters. Shawn layden doesn't have much power. People like to compare him to Phill Spencer but Sony has different guys doing alot of the important things. Most the great exclusives coming and talented dev teams are overseen by Shuhei Yoshida. Shawn layden is just the guy who communicates to the fans and media.

This is certainly interesting timing. But it’s not like he built PlayStation or anything.
