Scores that completely shocked you.

Out of any game on any system, which score from Gamespot completely shocked you... AFTER you played the game?

So what I mean is if you played Mario Kart 64 and thought "wow, this game only got 6.4, it must be a huge disappointment" and then you ended up loving it, and being shocked at how it could score so poorly.

My choice would be Hogs Of War. I played it ages ago and loved it for years...and I only checked its score last year and was completely shocked to see a 5.5/10 for such a great game. Also, the Motorstorm score was pretty shocking. Fun factor doesn't seem to be included in the review? Odd.

What do you guys think? What are scores of games that you have played that completely shocked you?

mgs and mass effect both getting an 8.5 and deux ex getting an 8.2

Assassin's Creed as well, the game is clearly not worthy of a 9.0. I decided to give it a try and was thoroughly disappointed.

I don't get this one either. It's pretty amazing that it beat both Uncharted and Mass Effect. I think the hype the game had may have had something to do with the review. That happens to me sometimes... getting totally hyped about the game and then months later realising it ain't good.

Nah, it was really good! I agree MK should have gotten higher, but CTR was a great MP racer.

Back when Crash was actually fun...

Remember that Gamespot back then was TERRIBLY biased.

They were biased against consoles and Nintendo.

Consoles didn't apply for GOTY until many years after it was founded.

Diablo 2, at 8.5.

Really? Only an 8.5? It's widely regarded, by myself and others, as the greatest game ever made. Seems like it should have been a tad higher if you ask me.

This game didn't get good reviews by the majority of the gaming community too, though.

Surprising though, probably one of the best RPGs on the system imo.

I was shocked when I saw an 8 on Uncharted..The game should have gotten a 9..same thing for Ratchet and Clank. And Folklore also got a lower rating then expected. It should have gotten an 8.4 to the most. Assasin's Creed is also not AAA material.

It sold fine. After one year it had sold roughly 3 million. The original and it have sold a total of 17 million copies.

This begs the question, where is Diablo 3? The franchise is both beloved, and extremely popular, so why has it been 7 years since the last game? Well, it took 10 years to get a new Starcraft I suppose, so we shouldn't be surprised.

Lair scoring a 4.5 made me :lol: and go :o!!! at the same time as did Rehash & Clank

Surprised noones said Tony Hawk 3 :? that definetly doesn't deserve a 10 even when it came out...

Games that I think got lower scores than they deserved, of course Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing (the latter I still play with friends and it's still fun), also Kirby Air Ride got like a 5.5 I think and I enjoyed that game with my brother and friends for a long time, I thought it was about 8.5 material just because of the fun we had in the city mode...

Mario Kart 64 = 6.4 (Maybe I missed something here?)

Street Fighter III = 7.2 for 2nd Impact and 7.4 for 3rd Strike (Um how did this happen when MK4 got a 8.9 in the same year?)

Bomberman 64 = 4.6 ( a cult c1assic within my area and group of friends)

Tony Hawk 3 = 10.0 ( what in the hell? lol)

Lair = 4.5 ( I think it was 4.5 either way on paper its the biggest flop of all time)

It didnt sell as well as Diablo one, but it still sold well over 5 million.

Black & White (PC) scored something like 9.6, don't remember really and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (PS2) SCORED 10.0, what a joke... I bought them both and almost did'nt play these titles so they were bad. I don't trust GS score since.

Mass Effect. 8.0 i believe. Hands down, one of the best action/RPG's ive ever played in my life.

Also, MGS for the PS1. Had the best boss fights ever. The Psycho Mantis "i can read your mind and move your controller!" was genius. I could'nt give a rat ass if the game was short. it deserved AAA.

SSB 64. 7.5. Should have gotten 8.5 imo. and SSBM should have been AAA easily.

Oh and more recently, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. It's the best one in the series (despite losing a few features) and yet it only gets 8.0.

I absolutely loved this game but it only received a 6.9

EDIT: Someone also mentioned Diablo 2, definitely deserved more than 8.5

u thought DE should have gotten a higher or lower socre? probably a stupid question but i just want to clarify :D.

anywho seeing DE only get an 8.2...i was shocked. imho this game is as near to perfect as any game has achieved....ever. it really is the best game ever made in the history of gaming, ever, imho. personally id score it a 9.7. just checking IWs score, it was only .2 lower. that indicated that IW was in the same league as DE1 when, really, it wasnt even in the same league at all. not even close.

TP: It's safe to say that everyone shat bricks the night the score was revealed.

SMG: after TP and MP3 I was half expecting it to flop. But GS pulled through.

No more heroes: I though it would get 7.5 at most...but daaaaamn

Ratchet and clank: tools of destruction: thought it would get the minimum of 8.0 knowing insomniacs solid record. But damn :(

Warioware Smooth Moves:.....It taught me to never base my purchases on one review site alone. What a waste of money.

THPS3: nothing needs to be said

LOZ: Majora's mask: seriously...I thought it was the best in the series. But only 8.3.....thats just robbery

Halo 3 getting a 9.5 is the most ridiculous score Ive ever read on here. Same old gameplay, graphics that barely looked hd (shiny halo 2 graphics to me). Its obvious that gs got consumed by the hype because that game shouldnt have gotten over aan 8.5. What a joke. And gs wonders why people give it no credibility.

Crash Bash: I had so much fun with this game. I think it deserved better than a 6 or at least a higher score than Mario Party.

Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn: When I looked at the score and saw it had 6, I was like is this for real. Then I bought it and now I love it.

Black and white was extremely innovative back in 2001, totally deserved the 9.3 score in my opinion. It was the last real innovative game from Peter Molineux... Don't tell me fable was innovative...

No More Heroes, Fire Emblem Raidant Dawn, Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time (way overrated).... I can't think of too many more right now.nintendofreak_2
