And will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. Like all rumors they need to be taken with a grain of salt. If true i wonder why this wouldnt be coming to the Xbox. Doesnt MS still own the rights?

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/02/rumour_platinumgames_scalebound_is_being_revived_as_a_nintendo_switch_exclusive

Scalebound was an ambitious action title in development at PlatinumGames a few years back, and was intended to be an Xbox One exclusive. Helmed by the one and only Hideki Kamiya, it mixed fantasy with science fiction and was understandably on the 'must have' list of many a gamer.

However, in 2017, Microsoft pulled the plug on development and Scalebound appeared to be dead and buried. A game of this scope could only be developed with the financial assistance of a major publisher or platform holder, and although Microsoft renewed the Scalebound trademark, it lapsed when the company was unable to specify what application it would have following the game's cancellation.

Fast forward to the present, and Nintendo Insider is reporting that the game has been resurrected as a Nintendo Switch exclusive – the site even states that it believes this was the "dead and buried" game that was hinted at yesterday.

Given PlatinumGames' solid relationship with Nintendo, this isn't the most outlandish rumour we've ever heard, although the project would presumably need to be scaled down by quite some margin to accommodate the drop in processing power (although it's worth noting that it actually began life on the Wii).

Nintendo Insider states that it has the utmost confidence in its source, but do you think this one should be taken with a grain of salt? Let us know with a comment.

It would be fun to see it come back, and score a 90+ on Metacritic.

They didn't, the Trademark is still owned by MS. The actual source is from a no name Nintendo fanboy site

https://www.nintendo-insider.com/report-scalebound-resurrected-as-a-nintendo-switch-exclusive/

He didn't site his sources and making a huge guess, and now everyone is falling for this. Platinum Games is already overwhelm with a lot of work right now. I highly doubt they're working on Scalebound at all.

If it happened I doubt they would use the same engine nor try to incorporate the forced MP that MS demanded in the game.

Either way, I do think Platinum's plate is extremely full right now and I can't really see them starting another project at the moment, but if it did happen at least we know Platinum would be properly funded and supported during development.

If true, then it definitely won't be called Scalebound. I can't see Microsoft allowing that.

Also JP Kellams (old Platinum Games employee) posted on twitter that he doesnt believe it is true.

This made me chuckle. One of the reasons given that Scalebound was cancelled is that it was too ambitious in terms of power. If a base X1 couldn’t handle it, how would a handheld with half it’s power handle it?

Also, MS owns the name.

Clearly, by using a different engine.

I love how all the cows who pretended to mourn the death of this game, as well as (Fable legends) were the same ones who relentlessly mocked them as trash, until they were canceled.

Yea, im sure you were real broken up about Fable legends :eyeroll:

Im also sure if both of these games came out, you wouldnt be shitting on them right now like Crackdown :eyeroll again:

These games were canceled for a reason.

I'm gonna laugh my ass off. And damn sure will be a reason to buy a Switch for. Between Bayo3, Astral Chain and Scalebound, who wouldn't want a Switch.

From what I remember, Platinum Games owned all the source material, but Xbox just owned the name. So the exact same game can come to Switch, just won't be called Scalebound.

Absolutely savage of PG and Nintendo if true. Bringing back Scalebound after the disaster that is Crackdown 3 will be like twisting the knife in lemmings' hearts especially if it turns out to be great like I think it will. Phil cancelled Scalebound for Crackdown 3 as we all remember saying that it wasn't going well and its cancellation was best for gamers yet he allowed piles of poo like Crackdown 3 and SoT to continue lol.

Aaaannd, I think Bugg's Bunny finally hit the core of the earth.

Nintendo Planning to Revive a “Dead and Buried Game” That Was Officially Cancelled – Rumour

Posted By | On 18th, Feb. 2019

Nintendo’s going berserk with the amount of first party exclusives they’ve got lined up for the Nintendo Switch. Over the coming months of the year, we’ve got the likes of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Astral Chain, and Super Mario Maker 2to look forward to, to name just a few, on top of games such as Animal Crossing and Pokemon Gen 8, which don’t have exact release dates yet. Clearly, though, they’re not resting on their laurels.

Apparently, they’re looking back to an old project that had once been under development and had been officially cancelled, which they allegedly will be reviving development on for the Nintendo Switch. This is as per Game Informer editor Imran Khan, who spoke about the project on the Kinda Funny Games podcast (transcribed by Nintendo Everything).

“Let me hint at something, I guess,” said Khan. “This is a thing that I’m going to write up at some point as soon as I get some more sources on it. But there’s a game that’s thought to be dead that Nintendo’s reviving, and it’s not one that people would expect. It was very much a title that was dead and buried – very officially cancelled.

https://gamingbolt.com/nintendo-planning-to-revive-a-dead-and-buried-game-that-was-officially-cancelled-rumour

Can't claim this is a nintendo fanboy website.

The fact that Scalebound isn't named specifically somehow makes this even more compelling.

Also, Peep that date!

@Pedro: platinum games seems to prefer making games on the Switch these days so if they scale down the visuals for a Switch release it could be done. They put in a lot of work on this game so I believe it would be in their best interests to finally find it a home and what better than the Switch which is hot right now and while they continue to release this handful of games they are already working on as Switch exclusives. Never expected this but it makes a lot of sense for a rumor.

I don’t know. I find it kind of hard to believe that this rumoured game is Scalebound however if it is then I wouldn’t mind seeing it come to the Switch if that’s what it takes.

It would be crazy but not impossible if Nintendo picked up Platinum Games as an internal studio. They seem to work well together, so I could see it happening with how many games they are pumping out for Nintendo.

Platinum will just go back to their original ideas, not to be butchered with MS requests of MP and RPG elements. It was never originally intended, but MS is like EA.

Wow, you are absolutely nuts. MS just released one of the worst games of their first party titles and you're kicking dirt over Scalebound and Fable Legends? Two games you know you would have defended if they had released to lukewarm reviews. But for the life of me, I have no idea how they could have fared any worse than Crackdown 3.

It's one thing for the game to be poor, but its development was based on a lie. It's the biggest downgrade in modern gaming. It was a bigger PR blunder to release it than not.

@BenjaminBanklin: It would be an amazing MEGATON if Nintendo announced this at E3.

Almost everyone on the fence about getting a Switch will say F it and drop that cash.

Nintendo is taking up the slack for MS's shallow effort this gen and showing what a console provider is supposed to do for gaming and gamers, provide the games, quality games with full development support!

I didn't want to get a Switch because of the low end tech, but I'm bout to say F it myself because I want to show my support for when a company actually does it right.

Scalebound could have worked if it stayed a single player experience. MS insisted on making it multiplayer and it F'd it all up. Platinum didn't help the cause by any means but it could have been salvageable if it stated a sp game.

Respect for saying the truth as a xbox fan.

Originally Kamiya wanted to do a story about a young girl and her dragon. Phil and company wanted a dudebro - very dmc4 looking at the time, but the final straw seemed to be 4 player coop which slowed that multiplayer.

MS didn't provide additional funds for the additional demands they made to Platinum and that's why it was terminated. This isn't the first time MS has done this to 3rd party devs who tried to create games for them.

What a "switch"

Throw Crackdown 3 on there too so Switch can have some more failed Xbox exclusives.
