RUMOR* NPD numbers for January favors the Nintendo Switch

If true, then the Nintendo Switch is on the right track to take over 2019, especially after the Nintendo Direct from last week

If these numbers are true, that would mean the Switch has seen the best hardware sales for a January during this current generation. The previous record was set by the PS4 back in 2014, which sold 274k for that month.

Nice finally. It be weird if PS4 still beating it in PS4 6th year.

PS5 will takeover the earth when it launches

Switch is already on it's way to winning 2019 and it hasn't even announced all of its games yet. The PS4 is near the end of its life but will still put up good numbers.

Note: this NPD is only counting 4 weeks instead of 5. So based on the per week average, PS4 is only down 4%, Switch is up 29% and Xbox is down 47%.

Xbox is flatlining despite all the 100 dollar price cuts to X1X and the 50 dollar cuts to the S. It's no longer healthy in spite of the promotions.

Switch won last January too... which also beat all of PS4's Januaries. Switch's January 2018 was 275k, PS4's was 255k, and PS4's best January was 271k. Trying to downplay it by talking about how old PS4 is isn't gonna work.

Unless Switch drops off in 2020 I'd expect Switch to still win in January 2021.

I'm interested to see February's numbers and if Tetris 99 boosts hardware sales.

Certainly doesn’t surprise me, Nintendo and the Switch have been killing it and after seeing that last Direct it’ll definitely be continuing.

Impressive numbers for Switch... gonna be a big year. Solid numbers for PS4 & XB1 too.

No way anyone catches up to Switch in numbers. Of course it's getting all them handheld sales that its set tops use to never get, so really, Switch should be getting DS + Wii numbers.

It is pretty amazing that games that you wouldn't think could sell shit, keep units sales up, and becoming 10 mil sellers. Like Smash and Splatoon 2 are basically as beast as anyone else's 1st party.

I certainly don't feel Xbox can compete with the Switch, likely why they trying to stick to premium "Steam Machines".

What I find interesting is where Sony lands. Probably gonna be way more traditional. Likely keep their 1st party exclusive, not counting PS4 or a new handheld. I imagine they lose a lot of the 3rd party they only got cause Switch and PC will steal a lot of that stuff, especially Japanese stuff. So think Sony gonna be doubling their efforts on PSVR and 1st party.

Switch will likely take 2019 and 2020 worldwide considering there isn't any serious competition at the moment to what it's coming out with.

2021 will be either Sony or Microsoft once the PS5 and XB2 start to establish themselves game wise.

Maybe February will be Xbox’s month. I bought my 3rd Xbox One X this month, which is also my 5th overall. If only Lems shared my enthusiasm...

Switch is taking over the planet!

I’m glad someone is buying a Switch - because I’m not. I usually buy a Nintendo system as back up to an Xbox - but I haven’t seen reason to buy one.

@Sevenizz: Why though? There’s quite a big variety of great games you could dig into after finishing the abysmall Crackdown 3.

@Sgt_Crow: Crackdown is fun. It’s a shame you won’t have a chance to play it and form your own opinion on it.

As for the Switch. Other than Mario Odyssey and Tetris 99, there’d be nothing else I’d buy for it. I already have MK8 and BotW on my WiiU. They were meh at best and not worth rebuying.

The switch is doing great numbers it's strange that I don't feel any need to buy one.

Really glad the system is going so well. It’s such a great console.

There’s barely anything to form an opinion on since the game is as barebones as can be according to pretty much everyone who has reviewed it.

It’s amazing how they spent 5+ years working on it.

own both and im happy with it. PS4 is on its last legs so its no surprise switch is beating it.
