http://www.dualpixels.com/profiles/blogs/rumor-nintendo-s-answer-to-gran-turismo-and-forza-in-development-?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

This quite interesting.

Gran Turismo, Forza, and a third challenger? Yes. Dual Pixels has gotten word, in significant detail, that Nintendo is working on their killer app simulation racer for Wii U that is designed to put GT and Forza on their heels. Having dominated the kart/arcade racing market with Mario Kart, Nintendo is shifting their focus. Their newest project, which our source (who has insight of Nintendo developments) refers to as "Concept Grand Prix", is in development by Lucid Gamesmade up of ex-Developers of Bizarre Creations (Fur Fighters, Project Gotham Racing, Blur).

Concept Grand Prix is expected to provide extremelyrealisticphysics, with controls and gameplay similar to Project Gotham. Players will begin their careers working for R&D Division, one of many fictional automobilemanufacturersand concept design providers in the game. The title features a deep car customization element which allows you to build cars from scratch based on concepts provided by carmanufacturerssuch as R&D Division. Using Wii U's tablet, players can customize everything from thevehiclesindividual spark plugs to curing plastics on the exterior finish. Once a player finishes their first vehicle, they'll be put through R&D Tests, which has been directly compared to Gran Turismo's licensing system.

Both Gran Turismo and Forza their latest additions to the series have a strong community focus, something Lucid Games has acknowledged. Concept Grand Prix will be a community centric game that embraces the car enthusiasts it will attract. Nintendo is hoping CGP inspires real lifemanufacturersto pursue designs produced by the game's community, and they may even host a contest to promote the title.

CGP 's online multiplayer will add longevity to the title by providing monthly challenges many of which will require you to design cars to pass downloadable R&D Tests. Online races willaccommodate 12-playerssimultaneously; you will earn points by creating cars and racing them for your company.

Concept Grand Prix's motive is clear; Forza and Gran Turismo are thedefinitiveracers of their respective consoles. However, GT and Forza offer real lifeprestigiouscarmanufactures with long legacies in automobile engineering, and it's looking like CGP will not.Perhaps the hassles of pursing licensing from dozens of carmanufacturers for vehicles influenced Nintendo to take a renegade approach in delivering a new high profile racer.

Dual Pixels' source has told us to expect a Concept Grand Prix announcement at or leading up to E3 2012.

With all this news. Don't forget that Sony = doomed.

Doubt it. Nintendo doesn't seem to care about that particular racing genre.

An intresting take on the genre, but they have no hope in making a more fun and content filled game than Turn 10 can produce.

As much as that'd surprise me before, I've just come to accept that many posters don't really like games. They just like the graphics and gameplay that metacritic or spreadsheets provide.

Most boring genre in the history of video games (yes, even golf is better)... But I guess Nintendo had to do it sooner or later.

As far as SW is concerned, that's for sure.

So many will argue before touching a game, let alone beat actually beat the games they praise/dislike.

There's no reason to have this be Mario-themed, especially since it would confuse consumers with Mario Kart. People who enjoy Mario Kart will NOT enjoy a realistic driving simulator. Total opposites in everything.

With the release of the Wii U they might try and cater to the more "hardcore" market. Both Forza and Gran Turismo are well selling franchises and some people have bought a PS3 JUST for the sake of GT5. If Nintendo can get that crowd/some of it and other "hardcore" crowds (FPS gamers) + keep their current fans + casuals they're set to sell a ton, but that is a lof of 'ifs'. Nintendo might also just lose the entire casual crowd byt introducing a more "hardcore" console. Who knows. :)

Nintendo only dominates in kart racing because Naughty Dog can't keep being bothered to make kart racing games. As for a response to Gran Turismo and Forza? Good luck.

So it's interesting when Nintendo "copies" MS/Sony (GT and Forza), but when it's the opposite you make silly threads and write stuff like this "So Sony's trying to make its own Super Smash Bros clone. I'm laughing at this, laughing hard.". Rather pathetic IMO.

Not really. There's a difference about making a game in a certain genre vs. making a game that is just like another competitor's game.

PC was doing Sim racers way before Sony or Microsoft hardly the same.

I'll believe it when I see it. Nintendo's better off sticking to F-Zero and Mario Kart. I expect to see sim racers on the PC, where you have all sorts of nice racing wheels and shifters to choose from (Logitech G25/G27 or Fanatec most of the time, TSW or ECCI if you're really rich), TrackIR support, and sims that make GT and Forza look like arcade racers by comparison. Ever tried Grand Prix Legends or Richard Burns Rally with the mods? Brutally, unforgivingly difficult, but rewarding when you can speed through the track without wrecking your car. And I haven't even dared to try iRacing yet...

Unfortunately, most people here would just roll their eyes at you if you brought up something like Vette! (an old open-world sim racer from the 1980s) or one of the old Papyrus sims (NASCAR Racing series or Grand Prix Legends) in here because they don't know what you're talking about.

Sony was pretty much dominating the Sim Racing genre until Forza came along. It's easily one of the most recognizable Racing Sims out. Besides, we hardly know ANYTHING about Sony's new game. For all I care it could be a wrestling game. Another point is when did Nintendo ever own a specific genre? Every company copies each other.

If it's a sim racing game it'll be similarr to games like Gran Turismo and most likely far from Mario Kart and F-Zero :)

It is one of the genres Nintendo has yet to have a franchise in and I like the concept. Because you actually get to design your own cars and then test them.

They need to shoehorn Mario into the cars yet. And the rest of them.
