PS5 Shipments are up 400%, just in time for Ragnarok!

Shipments of PS5 consoles to the US in September had a 400 percent increase year-over-year, according to a financial analyst.

David Gibson, senior analyst at MST Financial, shared a graph on Twitter showing the imports to the US per month from June 2021 onwards, with a huge spike during last month.

Gibson added he believes some of the stock will go towards the launch of God of War Ragnarök, which makes a lot of sense. Ragnarök is the next first-party title for PlayStation, and Sony will be undoubtedly eager to capitalise on its release to bolster sales of the PS5.

There's also the holiday season coming up which is likely to see an increase in demand. The PS5 has constantly been unable to meet demand, despite selling well at launch, but with these new figures it seems the supply chain issues which have hampered production of the console are starting to peter out.

This also corroborates a report from last week claiming Sony aimed to produce 2 million units of its upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset by March. Sources at Sony said a "relief of the supply chain bottlenecks" that have caused stock shortages of the PS5 is expected early next year, which will allow Sony to increase the inventory of PS5s and VR2 headsets .

Or are we forgetting that Ragnarok used to be a PS5 exclusive until Sony had to reverse course on those initial announcements making the lineup also available on PS4 meaning these are PS4 games being upscaled on the PS5?

Cause from where I'm standing I'm missing nothing of note by not owning a PS5 or Xbox Series but Sony and Microsoft are both happy to make their games available on platforms I already own.

Even if I didn't have my PC I'd still be playing on my PS4 Pro cause Sony hasn't shown anything that makes me think I gotta upgrade to play that.

The lady at GameStop told me she had a bunch of PS5s in stock and that I should buy one and play Persona 5 Royal on it instead of paying off my preorder on Switch in full. For me, it's the quality of life improvements and controller refinements the new platform provides that makes owning the new platforms.

And that is YOUR personal opinion my man. As for me, the pc up front cost is nearly triple the cost of a ps5/xsx, and no matter how extreme hermits try to spin it, the pc isn’t nearly as “plug n play” friendly as a console.

Not sure who claims a PC is plug and play ready as that's just stupid unless you're going with a prebuilt system but even then there will be digital storefronts and such you need to install.

And personally I'd rather pay a higher upfront cost instead of being nickeled and dimed over a generation with subscription fees, a single digital store front that the platform holder controls, and rising costs of physical games because "development budgets have gone up" brought to you by the same people who keep chasing more horse power as being improvements.

Having more options, better game support, a variety of digital storefronts, no subscription fees for basic things like online play, and more makes it a no brainer to avoid what the console market is shelling; microtransactions, subscription fees, decade old hardware improvements billed as new, and $70 games.

I remember being impressed in 2011 when I started using SSD's for things like a boot drive and to play games off of. Not really that much of a wow factor ten years later which gets even less impressive when the stuff billed as only capable on the PS5 is replicated on the PS4 with zero issues.

Enjoy your upscaled PS4 games and Microsoft's "maybe next year we'll get our shit together" approach.
