PS3 - The shooter console

Does anyone remember back at the launch of these systems the number of threads from Cows talking about how the 360 only has shooters? Does anyone else find it ironic that the tables have turned so badly that you never hear it mentioned anymore?

Go look at the Playstation Store catagories. You could basically add up the total number of games and add-ons in all other sections and it would struggle to beat the number in Shooters alone.

The big exclusives?

Resistance, Resistance 2, KZ2, MGS4, Uncharted and Uncharted 2 are all FPS or TPS.

Sure you get the odd LBP and I don't really care as I like some shooters but it's terribly funny when I think back.

Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Left 4 Dead, and.... you know what lets go with Mass Effect. If your telling me Uncharted is a shooter then I'm saying so is Mass Effect because, you shoot people.

It would be the shooter console if all it had was shooters but Ratchet, LBP, inFamous, MLB 09, and many others. I'm not saying the 360 is the shooter console, I'm saying neither is.

I wouldn't consider Uncharted (The first one) really a shooter. I mean, of course you are shooting throughout the whole game, but if they took out the guns, the game would basically be the same. It's not based around guns.

I would consider the second one a shooter because of its online.

Please? Everyone knows the Xbox 360 is the shooter console.

While it would be fun to make the PS3 THE SHOOTER CONSOLE, it isn't.

It has more creative and offbeat stuff like Little big planet, infamous, motorstorm, Metal Gear Solid 4, and well, i wouldn't really call valkyria chronicles a shooter. But its amazing whatever it is

Well, shooters is the most popular online/multiplay genre thats why you see much stuff for that

Hehe I think you get me wrong. I don't care which one is but Cows always used to say that you should only buy a 360 if you just want to play shooters. As it turns out the 360 is stuffed full of the JRPG's the Cows talked about and the PS3 full of shooters instead!

It was used as an argument almost daily before they saw the games lists :P.

I don't agree. LBP.. Infamous.. MGS4.. Demon's Souls.. Uncharted.. Resistance.. Heavenly Sword.. I think there is a pretty wide variety between PS3's exclusives.

The NES and SNES the side-scroller consoles.

Uncharted is very much a shooter with a little puzzle and platforming. Just because Half-Life 2 uses many puzzles doesn't mean it's not a shooter. Uncharted has one main entree and it's of the stop n' pop variety. The online is a complete shooting frenzy.

I have to agree with BioShockOwnz here.

I'm not knocking the PS3 for this, just find it funny that this exact thing was used for ownage.

Both the 360 and PS3 are massively overloaded with shooters and are desperately lacking in variety. It's ridiculous.

With that being said, the 360 leans towards more PC-style gaming with the emphasis on WRPG's and RTS and all the games it shares with Steam.

Probably you both are arguing about the same thing. Both Uncharted and MGS 4 are action adventures or action-adventures or action/adventures.

If you go by the later two it clearly implies that it mixes the gaming genres action and adventure. The most common subgenres of the action genre are: Hack and Slash, platformers, fighters, and shooters.

So basically an action adventure game can be a shooter or atleast contain contain a decent amount shooter heavy segments.

It has plenty off AA-AAA titles that aren't shooters. It's a falsehood that should've died a long time ago.

The ones you included, MGS, Uncharted 1 and 2 are not TPS.

Now, there are much more than those exclsuives.

LBP, GT, Motorstorm, Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Folklore, etc etc...

To me, any game that revolves around shooting as it's main gameplay element is a shooter. Half Life has many physics based puzzles, you can disarm people, you need to jump about and drive vehicles etc...but it's still a shooter as you shoot most things for most of the game.

Plenty of shooting in that but at least half of your time is taken up talking to chars, exploring side quests and generally doing non shooty things. A game with guns isn't a shooter but in UC that IS most of what you do...bar watching cut scenes.
