[PS3 News] In Game XMB in 2.4 (((pops Champagne)))

We've finally received word that the long awaited, and much rumored, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 is indeed the real deal and is said to be coming relatively soon. Many of the most requested features, such as a universal friends list and in-game messaging will be included, in addition to a few rather nice surprises (*cough*soundtracks*cough*). We definitely can't divulge all of the details, but trust us, it's coming. We aren't yet 100% sure of the actual release date, but all signs point to sometime in June. We're guesing that Sony will probably detail 2.40 in the coming weeks.

Rumored in the 2.40 update

- In-game messaging
- Official trophy support
- In-game soundtracks
- In-game video messaging
- Universal record/upload to YouTube of games

Hopefully it's true, and hopefully it works properly (there were some rumors that "In-game XMB" would mean you would go back to the main XMB, not a 360-esque blade/pop-up).

Seems memory is being freed up with the new SDK's and updates to.

Criterion just added a 1080i mode to Burnout and they say this is because of newly freed ram.

Seriously though, I have wanted this since day one! I cannot believe it has taken this long. I can't believe I'm getting excited to wait again for this crap. Just friggin' release it already! I wanna chat with my buddies when playing Rock Band together. I wanna chat with my buddy when he comes online and wants me to play Warhawk so i can tell him that I can't because I am playing PixelJunk Monsters Encore with my lady (okay, its my wife). I want to be able to rock out to my own music in any game I want to. Although, it won't be that many games, original soundtracks are great for most games. ANyway, let's get this ship sailing, huh, SOny? Huh? HUH?!?!

And that still doesn't mean that from 360 day one to whenever Sony does this (i have no idea) that the XBL fees weren't worth it. They were. XBL subscribers got to get most of these features from the get-go.

I dont know about you but I couldn't stand having having to signout of a game in COD4 to read a message that said "you want to play COD4?"

Neogaf is one of the more credible sites on the net, and I saw like 3 or 4 people in there confirm it... Looks like it may be true :0

I don't have any friends with PS3's to send me messages, and I'm not big into online gaming... But I see how that would be a delima, and a good thing to fix.

IN Game XMB now that's what i was dieing for. I can easily keep in touch with my PSN buddies while play a nice game of Warhawk.
