Consoles are a better solution for most people because the fit into existing home entertainment setups. A PS3 provides in a neat package a blueray player, a games console. a media hub and social networking functionality. Where can I get a PC for the same price that does all this in such a slick package?

My laptop does all that (it even has an honest-to-god HD-DVD ROM  ), and unlike the PS3, it's portable. :)

It's always seemed to me that PC gamers know exactly where they stand - PC offers a better experience at the sacrifice of convenience. PC gamers have always seemed, to me, content with this trade-off.

PC does everything consoles do better, they have better media capabilities, better online, better social networking functionality. And you can get a PC with all of that for around $500 or even less.

I'm not a PC gamer and I think this reason is weak. My weak as heck PC that can't even play new games destroys the PS3 as a media center, the only thing it doesn't have is blu ray and since I rarely rent / buy movies, I see no loss. If it is that important to you for your media center to look super slick then find a way to incorporate it, not the PC's fault, its yours.

It's a better experience for them, precisely because they're willing to make that tradeoff. As a console gamer, we make a tradeoff as well - we give up the customizability and extensibility of PCs, for the ease of use of consoles.

Both are perfectly valid choices, but which is better depends entirely upon your preferences.

A pc is basically a home entertainment setup by itself. it plays games, music, movies (blu rays, dvds etc) in addition to several things.

It's called a mATX form pc. It's just a little bigger than a console, and will still run the best pc games. Also I have one of the larger sized mid-towers and it still fits into my home setup with my 360, PS3, HD PVR and 5.1 system. So this thread = failed lol

Sure. I used to be a PC gamer myself, but have since traded it in for the convenience of consoles. Having been on both sides of the fence, I can say that it's exactly as you insinuated - it's a tradeoff.

Precisely. No game system is perfect for everyone, claiming otherwise is simply naive.

Precisely. It's quite unfortunate too as in many ways its the trolls post that seem to be the only thing worthwhile at the Gspot now. Atleast since the reviews have gone to the crapper, i.e. Empire 8.5 ahhaha.

I disapprove... FPS and RTS are way better on PC IMO... But, when it's time to play action games (GTA series etc.) or racing games, it's true that there's nothing better than a good old controller..

That's why you can connect a 360 controller to a PC.

I put a PC together last night for $350 (not including a monitor) that can outperform PS3 90% of the time :| Consoles are good for one reason and that is exclusives.

Technically the PC is better for everything as you can just hook up a 360 controller... Only thing PC doesn't get is console exclusives... but it gets many amazing exclusives itself

There's GT5, which pretty much kills every racing sim. But if you want to talk about flight sims then yea, PCs are obviously better.

And "adventure games" is a broad topic, pretty much every game has an adventure.
