"However, in a move that may disappoint some fans, Mr House said that Sony would not be unveiling its new console next week and refused to say when or at what price the unit would go on sale. “We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety,” he said."

Well my hype meter has fallen a bit...

I guess this confirms the flopping of the upcoming PSVR. But to be fair it would have flopped anyway.

You mean all they are gonna do is show CG trailers of games that won't come out until 2018 or later? Yes that is disappointing. Hardware is exciting. Software reveals and stage demos should always be taken with a grain of salt. How many times are we gonna have to discuss "the downgrade" when the actual game is shown/released?

E3 would be more interesting if it was closer to Bethesda presentation in which they announce stuff that is available at the time. Imagine if every E3 there was a game announced that was immediately available.

Why do you think that? Im pretty sure it will release October or November if the leaks are to be trusted with the Neo ready games timelimit.

What I know is that it's not ready to go yet- so they're looking at a release next year, with Horizon and God of War 4 being launch titles for it, so to say.

I may be wrong, of course- I am just sharing what I have been told.

Sony may have got spooked when they heard the Scorpio was aiming for 6 teraflops and decided to wait? If MS believes Sony can't match them for another year,. MS might launch before Sony?

No need to show the console, just show that all games shown are running on Neo. They have to focus on VR or they risk losing millions. Be all like,

  • God of War: Redemption - Neo
  • Last Guardian - Neo
  • Uncharted 4 - Neo
  • Horizon - Neo

Every single game at e3 can be shown running on Neo. Will be some pretty graphic i hear.

Probably due to the rumors of Scorpio project from Microsoft. If it really is as strong as said, Sony need to up the power of the PS4 Neo, which is why they are waiting to say anything.

I was just told that they don't think there is much of a hurry, and they don't want the launch of the new PS4 to cannibalize the PSVR launch, which Sony are actually going to be putting a fair bit of cash and muscle behind. Microsoft's plans were not mentioned, but it would not surprise me if Sony were somehow privy to those and responding to them in a sense, as well.

Hmm. Sorta makes sense if you think it's only lauching in 2017, however Sony were pretty eager to announce and talk about the PS4 as soon as they could on the year of launch (and it worked out for them).

Still, that means more games/longer demos at their conference! So no all is lost :D Unless they once again live demo VR.....it doesn't work like that Sony, you need to experience VR not see it on regular 2D screen >.>

I am interested in the Neo (and the Scorpio) from an academic standpoint, in that I truly believe that they represent the future of the console market, and I want to see how Sony and Microsoft handle them, and how the market responds.

But the PS4 can't run any of oculus rift or vive VR games at 60 FPS.

The PS4 cpu has been surpassed by mobile tablets for awhile now has been struggling to run games at 30 FPS locked.

The system is just not powerful enough for most VR software to reach smooth frame rates.

Well, that's tremendously disappointing, at least for me. I'm dying to see how all this plays out, and what the future of consoles hold.

Otherwise, this is most definitely Sony trying to position themselves like they did E3 2013.

"However, in a move that may disappoint some fans, Mr House said that Sony would not be unveiling its new console next week and refused to say when or at what price the unit would go on sale. “We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety,” he said."

Well my hype meter has fallen a bit...

they probably changing their architecture again because they heard ms is making a stronger console and because they heard nintendo isn't really making a strong console.

We may not have had very strong consoles this gen but it did reanimate the hardware power battle, mainly because of the extra power in that ps4's gpu and the extra sales it generated

But apparently the console hardware manufactures don't realize that this was far from the only reason. The mandatory kinect, the bad pr from microsoft, the reserved resources for the kinect and the late release for the esramtools for the xbox have something to do with as well. Of course the combination of all these factors have made the ps4 so successfull. But extra power is far from the only reason, the x360 is the proof of that.

I'm really curious now what will happen at e3 now, is microsoft going the only one with a new console..? Are they going to pull another 360?

The waiting game ambidex edition. Who will finally jump and reveal their console first? Nintendo and sorta MS might need to take the plunge.

@Ghost120x: Sony will have to if they want to save VR. Nintendo has to wait till after VR. Microsoft will probably wait till after VR also.

Can't say that I wasn't really looking forward to seeing Neo at E3 this year. Still, I was wondering if cramming VR and a new SKU into the same E3 wasn't going to be a bit of an overload for people who aren't wonky for hardware as much as I am.

I'm having an equal but opposite problem with MSes E3. I am definitely interested in seeing what's up their sleeve with "Scorpio". However, if they don't make a bunch of new game announcements then it really would be much ado about nothing in my eyes.

As for Nintendo? I still think they are utterly mad for not showing the NX yet.

So Sony's show will only be VR wanking and game trailers for games that wont release for two years then. Definitely find new hardware more exciting.
