Coming from metro Entertainment news, No Man's Sky is getting some huge improvements and it's by far the biggest update I seen so far. I still play this game since launch and still finding myself enjoying it despite the hating it got. I'll just highlighted what it comes with:

GENERATION

  • Increased variety in weather, planet and structure names
  • More base building parts have unique names
  • Prevented trees spawning on sheer cliffs
  • Improved object placement on slopes
  • Improved grass placement and density
  • Changed the default starting ship model
  • Regenerated galaxy to remove differences between survival, normal and creative game modes
  • Improved building distribution
  • Increased distribution of heridium deposits
  • Improved generation of beaches along shorelines
  • Repositioned player bases to accommodate generation changes

EXPLORATION

  • Improved balance of hazards between planets
  • Improved settings for hazard damage and strength
  • Reduce cave hazard recharge times
  • Added Shielding Shard to the starting player inventory
  • Limited the depth at which buildings can spawn underwater

GAMEPLAY

  • More tech available in tech shops
  • Balanced tech shop standing requirements
  • Standing lights have a proper name when you interact with them
  • Increased robustness of systems for locating buildings
  • Increased number and types of objects which can be scanned
  • Increased information available about scanned foliage and creatures
  • Improved planet resource lists
  • Craftable products now sorted by most recent use
  • Improved differentiation of weapons
  • Fixed pinning product recipes and technology guides
  • Continued story unlocked through abandoned buildings
  • Added interactions and dialogue options for many structures and characters
  • Overhauled secondary character interactions
  • Joint exploration has been introduced allowing 16 players to see visual representations of each other in game.
  • Joint exploration does not require PS Plus, and is not currently available on GOG Galaxy.
  • TRADE AND FARMING
  • Alloys, farm products and new gas products now form separate branches of a larger craft tree
  • Added new valuable higher tier craft products
  • Added new harvester to harvest atmospheric gases
  • Added new trade specific products
  • Added new farmable ‘Star Bramble’ plant

  • Increased contrast between picked and unpicked resource plants to more easily tell them apart

  • Improved star names gathered in galaxy map flythrough

  • Added ability to summon your ship from the quick menu

Sure NMS is one the most overhyped and biggest flop this gen but if you lower your standards and expectation it's not that bad. They should make it free for PS+ though, if they want people to actually check it out. It's too little too late.

I have it held for me at a local game store for $15 and will pick it up later today. Should provide a nice mix of gaming from Dark Souls 3, Persona 3, and Splatoon 2.

Is it just me, or is most of this stuff balances and small improvements?

Doesn't seem like they really added all that much as far as actual content goes.

I hope this makes the game better, I bought it 3 weeks ago for around 15 euros on the store and I hated it. Also my PS4pro sounds like it's exploding with this game, what the hell?

Sean Murray is still hiding from all the lies and can't say I blame him. He was such a bad PR, all he wanted was that fast money. But since Hello Games has been working hard, I'm sure Sean is still with them, so there's that.

@Bread_or_Decide: he gave a talk at a conference about procedural generation recently. Also has made posts in a couple different places. I think it's clear he has been spending the majority of his time working on this game.

@davillain-: if all he wanted was that fast money then why didn't he just take the money and run? He did the exact opposite and invested that money back into the game with three major updates and more to come. Seems like an odd way to "scam" people.

What's the actual content?

I guess seeing each other? But you can only see up to 16 people, and you can't interact, so it's not really content in a sense?

I like this game, and am excited to keep plugging away at it on random rainy days for... god knows how many years. It's more like Minecraft in that sense - kind of an endless, sit back and relax, experience to be picked up and put down whenever you feel like it

I never caught the original hype as I often miss these things so wasn't particularly let down by the game on release. It wasn't great but I got some fun out of it. May go back to see what this is about, but probably wont.

Reading through that least it looks like any other patch, what were the major changes?

Pretty much everything on that list looks like balancing or a slight tweak.

Up to 16 players on a planet at a time (15 of which will be represented with a floating orb which cannot be interacted with)- yup even with my extremely low expectations I was pretty let down. What a bunch of talentless a holes.

And how are we supposed to be defining "content "? The original game is 6 gb. This patch alone is 7.3 gb.

I think everyone was expecting some kind of story lead and some kind of space battle MP kind of content. Content of a game can be whatever it is there adding that the original game didn't have before launch. From 6GB to 7.3GB is more then enough of a content.

I've been playing it today since the update and I have to say I'm very impressed. If the game had launched in this state I'm sure it would have been better received.

Well the update sounded pretty good to me, so I checked it out on PSN----->and found that the game is $23.99 right now. Couldn't hold out anymore. Looks like I'll be flying my little ship through the cosmos soon.

Game is shaping up nicely..another major update and it would at least almost deserve the hype it got in the first place.

Sweeten the deal with a 50% discount and id buy immediately.

You are in luck. it's $24. That is less than 50% of $60. There really isn't too much left that they talked about before the game released still missing.

I runs in VR on PC via VorpX with an openGL profile but once you get over the initial "wow cool" factor that VR usually brings, its still a shit game. Havent tried it with this latest update and tbh I cant be bothered to.

Damn, I reset my save to get to the galactic hub. I hope they rebuild it.

The update seems pretty sweet so far although I did have a sweet base location prior :(
