New XBOX feature coming will allow you to choose what assets to keep in a game

So lets say you only play single player of a game, you can choose to uninstall the multiplayer portion. Or if you only play the single player once and will never play it again, you can choose to uninstall that.

This will be up to developers to enable in their games, but it is a neat feature to save space on the internal HD

Yeah I thought I heard talk of this awhile ago, perhaps it was just rumour and speculation. Anyway that’s a pretty nice feature to have to help save space.

Mark Cerny announced this for PS5 awhile ago. Glad to see Xbox has it also.

I miss when games were games.

You went into the singleplayer beat it then hopped into multiplayer.

I don't like this approach from microsoft where there is 2 different versions of the same game one multiplayer one singleplayer this is embarassing.

Make one game and put it on my system I'm sick of them being split up lately like crackdown 3 and crap.

what on earth are you talking about "2 different versions"??? First of all if you are missing when you used to beat single player "then hopping into multiplayer"

That is the exact same system as it is now and would be if a dev decides to make part of their game uninstallable (i.e. you beat SP and will never play it so you decide to delete it.. no one is forcing you to delete it BTW)

And in your desire to be anti MS you failed to read the rest of the thread where people have pointed out Sony is doing the exact same thing

I'm fairly certain this will be pretty commonplace on both consoles moving forward. It is already implemented in some games on both current gen consoles right now. Although it does need some work.

Yeah, this will be common place next gen on all consoles although not enforced by any means. You can already do it on games like Modern Warfare.

It won't matter either way to me. I have always played through the campaign of a game before jumping into multiplayer.

It may not reduce the game size down is much as you think though. It all depends whether textures and audio from the single player are also used in the multi-player. For most games, the multiplayers uses the same assets as the single player game.

You would likely save more removing the single player element of a game than removing the multiplayer. Modern Warfare has a a fair bit dialogue and video cut scenes which could be removed, but the texture data is reused for multi-player.

In the case of Halo Infinite, they needed more assets, not less.
