the NFS game will require an online connection even for single player mode.

-------------

"We can confirm that, yes, a connection will be needed to play the game," EA revealed. "To deliver the best experience possible and make playing with friends more rewarding, an online connection will be required."

The reboot will have a proper single-player mode, the publisher said, but it will also require an internet connection to play.

--------------

The game will not have cockpit view either!

Big deal....who doesn't have an internet connection nowadays? It's a public utility, basically.

I thought we were through with the stupidity of having to be online when playing single player. This move by EA is just stupid. It's like requiring a CD to play a digital game.

They went out of they're way saying this next NFS will be a reboot and next step in the series only to make it DOA at release.

i really wonder why developers do this to themselves.

Wasn't going to play it anyways, but this just further cements that decision.

Millions. It's the reason why MS went back on their always-on policy on the Xbox One. The fact is, there is NO FUCKING REASON to that a single-player campaign needs a constant internet connection, except that the publisher doesn't trust their own customers and wants to continuously verify that they're the owners. Still amazes me that some people defend this shit.

@JustPlainLucas: I wasn't mad about MS's original idea...it was too early for the masses and the message was fumbled.

If the game will be better with an internet connection then I'm fine with it.

EA still hasn't learned anything since 2013 after the backlash of SimCity (2013). If it didn't work back then, why would it work now?

Yes, but if all you're doing is playing by yourself, then you don't NEED an internet connection...

@JustPlainLucas: But the single player will be online, no? For a reason, yes? The single player may have other online players or friends involved.

I'm still wondering how this stuff is still approved in project meetings.

This only further cements my idea that AAA games aren't expensive, publishers are just really really dumb.

The reason is so that EA can constantly validate your game. There is no beneficial reason that other people have to be on when you want to play by yourself.

yeah always online is a real hype killer.

Game looks pretty promising otherwise, but there is no reason this game should be always online.

All of these all at once, EA loves saving me money. Gonna wait for their inevitable PR when they say is hasn't sold well and not realise it was because they made it legitimately unplayable for a large portion of gamers straight out the gate lol #teamofflinesingleplayr

and they can just disable those features if a person isn't online. The point is that most of the time these "always online features" aren't necessary, and could easily be done without.

This is the sort of game I'll possibly buy but I wont now on principal. I have online but it shouldn't be necessary to play a single player game I've bought. It's that simple.

They lied about Sim City and its server side processing.

If they we're trying, they'd stop repeating some mistakes they already made before, don't you think? That shit with SimCity 2013 wasn't some fart in the wind.

I'm so glad that I'm able to play the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Offline! The true benefits of a DRM-Free gaming world! Sadly no publisher, like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and Valve CORP will understand that.

Hmm, about Witcher III, EA and Valve, look what I found advertised on Origin today.

Either CDP is trying to be clever, or they are sending mixed messages by being able to get it Origin and Steam. I understand broadening your horizons for more money, but with the no DRM thing they like to push (and the disappointment that GOG is nowhere near popular as Steam), I would've thought they would make TW3 EXCLUSIVE to GOG in the Digital sector. :|

But seriously, if you can't play something that you own without depending on another party, you don't actually own it.

.. Haven't they learned their lesson from the clusterfuck that is the newest Sim City? Which ultimately led to the closing down of Maxis more or less.. EA hasn't learned at all.. I predict the game is going to flop hard, and they are going to take another dev out to pasture to shoot them.
