New Character Details for FFXIII

A digicam image has surfaced on the internet and is quickly making its rounds through Japanese blogs and 2channel.

Presumably from Weekly Shonen Jump, the focus is heavy on the white-haired boy seen in the E3 2009 trailer.

The article states that his name is Hope, the camera's flash hiding his last name, but I've decided to translate it as Estheim.

According to the details revealed about him, his weapon is a boomerang. There's also a bit of friction between himself and Snow, following the events occurring in the demo when Hope's mother falls from a ruined bridge. To add to that, a point is made about his short temper. Also mentioned is how he hugs Vanille.

Speaking of Vanille, her weapon is described as being similar to a fishing rod. Enemies are struck by a needle on the end of the wire. Also in line with battles, Lightning's limit break has been revealed to be called Area Blast. Sounds flashy and, knowing Square Enix, it probably is.

A final point the magazine touches upon is about the l'Cie. My Japanese is far from perfect, but from what I can gather, l'Cie who fail to complete their mission within the designated time period become "Cie corpses" - a monster.

So, they are changing the Girl to a boy...not very hard by SE standards, but it was a female before, I'm sure of it.

Did SE just name a LEAD Male Character with already femine qualities...HOPE? :?

They´ve really dropped the ball on it, i think that they should go back and play theyre PS1 FF games and get back to when the franchise was good.

I agree. The only good final fantasy since Ps2 was FFX, everything after that was....welll....rubbish. FF12 was too political and boring for my taste, and im not even at all interested in XIII, but i am interested in Versus :D

People are suprised by the fact that a boy is named Hope. Im more surpised about Hope being a name in the first place. Its the first time iv'e ever heard of it.

HOPE is an english word, and it literally means...you guessed it, HOPE. ha! So, they literally are using a female baby girl name. LINK #2.

I loled though, as it's an odd name for a FF character mangirl.Maybe it's FF's first main Transvestite protagonist, you never know.

That's the Final Fantasy TWIST, because HOPE actually is a GIRLS name! This is going to be one crazy ROLLERCOASTER ride of a game! Maybe the PS3 version Hope's a girl, but the 360 port, they "Manned it up for all the shooter fans?" :)

haha seriously? November Rain? and i was suprised by Hope, but ive heard of Rhane and April so they're fine. I could see your twist happening, i remember something like that in Ininfite Undiscovery.

I am not a big fan of UNISEX names, but I couldn't imagine HOPE being one of them. SE really should have done some research for this young attractive lass...unless it's a girl, then they did research.

I used to think the FFXIII chick was hot, but now I don't think he/she is hot...not until I get a confirmation on gender!

Vaan was my most hated Character ever, trumped only by Wakka. This character does bear a resemblence. I hope at least his/her voice is not annoying like Vaan's.

The name I will give you, but the character design doesn't bother me at all.
