6 years later and the bashers can't differentiate "Overrated" from "Overhyped" and "Overappreciated"!!

As do I. I have no idea how Final Fantasy XII got so many incredibly positive reviews when it is, in my opinion, probably the worst Final Fantasy.

I'm totally hyped for Halo 3 (I even have it preordered) but I have to admit it is an over-rated franchise. Unlike almost every other major franchise in gaming, Halo was and still is a bit on the generic side. Everything from the characters, design, and gameplay can be largely classified as "not original". I mean it's a FPS with space soldiers who became big because of multi-player, sounds a lot like the original big daddy FPS Doom, not to mention countless games after that. With that said, I am still highly anticipating Halo 3, it might be a bit generic but it still going to be very well made, and it's popularity ensures that the multiplayer community is going to embrace it.

i voted for halo but that was before i saw MGS and GT.

seriously though, these games are BEYOND boring. at least halo is enjoyable, MGS is rediculously boring and GT is a sim. sims are the worst genre ever made. ruins the point of video gaming when you can go out and do the same thing irl instead of sitting in your house and watching you do it on tv.

FF. I loved 7, and enjoyed IX. But all the others have been really weak, especially XI.

So much hate for Halo! I don't think it get's enough credit for revolutionizing multiplayer FPS on consoles.

You need an 'other' categroy because none of those franchises are overated. It's easy to point at Halo because it's the newest, but the fact is that excellent games have been consistently turned out for all of the franchises you listed. If you think excellent quality games are overated, maybe you should stop playing games for a while; i.e get a life.

3 Sony franchises, 1 Nintendo franchise, and 1 Xbox franchise.

Seems a little lopsided against Sony's titles don't you think?

If you're talking about Halo:CE i agree with you 100%, its not a 9.7 if Half Life 2 in a 9.2 in my books.

IMHO the Final Fantasy franchise but Halo is right up there with it.

Metal Gear and FF can't be considered Sony franchises. Hell both of them started on Nintendo platforms.

Voted FF however. Its not that Halo deserves all the praise it gets, its just that FF gets so much more undeserved praise. Infact FF is pretty much the sole reason why console RPGs have been stagnant in design and creativity for almost the past decade.

That to me looks a lot like current Sony franchises. I understand they have been on other platforms beforebut right now the main games seem to be exclusive to PS3 only.

Why not put PGR4 up there? Why not put Rathet & Clank......that is more overrated than the ones mentioned. How about the Madden franchise which is quite possibly the biggest overrated trash.

It's not that I can't see some people saying the ones listed are overrated....there are just a ton of others that are 100% overrated compared to these.

all of those games live up to at least most of the hype why not put down games that didnt like Fable

Final Fantasy. It's not even the best JRPG series out there. It's just subpar when compared to actual JRPG's and WRPG's.

Seriously, anyone who said Halo needs to get off the band wagon and realize it's a great franchise, both games score great EVERYWHERE.

Halo, FTW. Personally, I find EVERY FPS game to be overrated. They're fun for a while, if you're into Online multiplayer. the story lines typically suck too. Games like Zelda, Gran Turismo, FF (I guess, never played one) have a lot more replay value than FPS games. Once you beat the single player mode, what's left to do? Unlock some new weapons? How fun :roll:

Gran Turismo will keep me busy for months, while an FPS I may play for a few weeks.

Agreed. GT and FF. Final Fantasy was great up until FFVII, but have been a mixed bag ever since that time. GT is fun for about 15-20hrs. After that time, you don't ever want to play it again. It get tedious over time. PGR and Forza are definitely games I can play for weeks and not get bored. Because they include online the replay value is much higher then a game like GT. Hopefully GT5 will be the last. I'd like to see what else Polyphony can develope.

Everyone keeps saying Halo is overrated, yet is scores 9.0 or higher for each release and sells over 6 million copies. It lives up to it's rating every time it's released. It's not overrated.

Don't know much about gaming, do you? A game franchise has to be more then 2.

I'll take

1. Zelda - the only horrible ones were the CDi knock off and Majoras Mask
2. Super Mario - With all of the innovative spinoffs and redefinitions, this franchise defines gaming.
3. Metroid
4. Sonic
5. Mega man - Before the 3d.
6. Castlevania - even if the transition to 3d has never helped. The old school games were always hits.
