A word of warning to PC users currently getting console scraps, this game is deeply troubled. Avoid.

Monster Hunter World PC players reporting deleted saves following Iceborne's arrival

Monster Hunter World's Iceborne expansion finally - finally - launched on PC yesterday, four months after its console debut. And while its highly anticipated arrival is certainly reason to celebrate, not all PC players are in a jubilant mood, with many reporting a range of issues with the newly released PC version - the most worrying being that existing game saves are, in some cases, no longer recognised after Iceborne's installation.

Monster Hunter is, it's fair to say, a game that can swallow up an enormous chunk of play time, thanks to its grind-focussed design - and after almost two years of free content updates for World, individual saves can easily reach into the hundreds of hours. Understandably then, players are oscillating between horror and devastation upon discovering that - as repeatedly reported across Steam, Reddit, and other corners of the internet - their saves are gone following an Iceborne install, with the game prompting them to create a fresh file on start-up.

As noted a shitty website that will not be linked, in the absence of official word from Capcom, players have speculated that missing saves could be the result of mod compatibility issues, or perhaps a failure to update Monster Hunter World following a previous patch that made alterations to save data.

Whatever the cause, those worried about the issue might want to manually back up their save games from Monster Hunter World's Steam directory prior to installing Iceborne. That can then be restored, if required, via this handy community created Save Transfer tool. Those that have already been affected are also using the tool to install Iceborne-ready saves provided by other players, although these will obviously lack hard-earned personal progress.

Alongside save game concerns, there've also been widespread reports of performance degradation - including plummeting frame rates and freezing - following Iceborne's arrival (although other players, including myself, have thankfully enjoyed a performance boost). Capcom hasacknowledged performance concerns, saying it's currently investigating reports.

Hopefully the publisher will be able to resolve Iceborne's technical problems on PC soon, so that players can enjoy what's an otherwise superb expansion unhindered.

Damn I'm almost done with my update, it is so damn huge. Guess I'll hold off on playing it if it is bad as people are reporting. They better move on to the RE Engine for their next Monster Hunter game.

When will you guys get the new monster update btw? Farming Safi Jiva weapons early will definitely make hunting for other monster less exciting considering the power differences.

I haven't experience a save loss yet.

Still MR7 and had just defeated Barioth. I feel overwhelmed with the amount of Optional quest after platinum-ing the base game months ago.

Capcom have usually been decent on PC the last few years barring RE6.

It was about the only actual good thing to come out of the now defunct PC Gaming Alliance.

k. I, along with all my friends had no problems. Losing your save would suck tremendously.

It might be a good idea to load up your old game and re-save before purchasing Iceborne. Apparently if you haven't played in a long time your save might not be recognized. I downloaded the big update, loaded and re-saved, then purchased Iceborne and all was well.

Speculation: For those who have lost a save, I'm curious if the files are still there. Maybe it just can't read it. Try finding the save directory and see what's in there. It might be possible to disable/uninstall the Iceborne DLC and load the old save.

I haven't really had any other issues, except for not remembering how the heck to play. I have a pretty beefy PC tho which is probably just powering through.

They changed a bunch of the controls, so even though I still have the controls down, I have to re-learn a bunch of them. Lol

Oh, and they finally added ultrawide support!

Weird, my post disappeared... or maybe it didn't post successfully.

They changed a bunch of the controls, so you won't be too far behind! I have to re-learn a ton of them. Lol

Oh, didn't know. Been a while since I played. 😂

This thread has some serious issues. Not sure if it's just me or what. Your reply didn't even appear until I refreshed the page like 3 times.

@DragonfireXZ95: Cool armor brah. I like the "layered armor" stuff and how you can make armors look much better by combining with it.
