People love an excuse to complain, especially on the internet. They were never going to seriously boycott this game just because it doesn't have dedicated servers. Look how quickly they dropped the L4D2 boycott as well.

I have self control, I didn't buy it. :o Maybe they thought if they show Activision, hey, we play you're game, and we're unhappy, it would be better then not playing it at all, and Activision thinking "they aren't even going to play, why change it for them". There is an obvious reaction of "lol! their playing even though they boycotted" but there could be more to it.

I didn't buy it either, but I think my brother is planning on getting it for our 360. I have a few PC gamer friends that aren't getting it, but they seem to think IW will add dedicated servers in a patch.

in all honesty the reason the boycott failed was because the game is great fun. The single player and coop are brilliant. The multiplayer works. From a, i want a game with out lag, it works. fast to get a game and haven't had any horrible lag which caused me to miss a kill or die. yes the game will suffer in the long term without dedicated servers, but it plays too well to not buy it.

I just took this today:

I think this meme needs to die. Keep in mind that this is only the first 50 users out of 881 (the number has grown despite the group mod removing people playing MW2).

Didn't people already hack it?

I've seen/heard PC gamers talking about how people have basically shown IW how big of a joke their IWnet is by doing everything it was supposed to prevent.

I didn't buy the game myself, then again I never boycotted because I really didn't care. One lost sale isn't going to make a difference. Oh no with my purchase they would've made $550,000,065.16 dollars intead!

Yeah that's the front page of the group which only shows people who are in game. Only about the 1st 2 pages are in game and only about 1/2 of them are even playing MW2. If you scroll through the other 16 pages of players you'll see that only a handful of people actually bought the game.

I wonder how many of those copies are pirated. Just because they're playing it doesn't mean they bought it.

All what this topic taught me is the members who joined the MW2 boycott group like to play L4D2 over MW2. So yeah boycott is a success.

How can you guys say that boycott wasn't a success? Cause a couple of people are playing it online on steam?

Here in the UK MW2 PC version sold 53k while the X360 version sold over 1 million copies. That means that the Xbox version sold almost 19 times more copies than the PC version.

53000 sales for the PC version is a total disaster for one of the biggest games of the year. That's EPIC FAIL

Out of the 56 people currently playing a game, one is playing MW2. If that's consistent across the group, that means 16 out of the 886 people have given in.

Hmm what? I am comparing them to the Xbox version, how else can I compare them???

Fact is 53k sales are really bad for the hype the game got. Just look at the console sales, Xbox 1 million sold, PS3 720k sold, PC 53k. Both console version sold nearly 2 million compared to 53k for the PC version. That's just FAIL, no matter which way you look at it.

What if a typical PC release sells 10k copies a month in the UK? What if CoD4 only sold 30k in its first week? What if digital distribution sales adds another 30k?

Even if a typical PC game sells 10k copies, no PC game gets the hype and the marketting that MW2 did get. The only big came you can compare MW2 is WOW and when new expanction come out for that game, it sells alot more than 53k, thats for sure.
