Part of Microsoft problem all along is that they did not differentiate between PC and Xbox, at one point even trying to charge people for online, with a bunch of Xbox ports PC gamers have had little interest in.

This is a good move.

Modding support is a staple of PC gaming, glad to see it come to Microsoft's store.

@Pedro: Not true. In terms of replayability, Skyrim absolutely outdoes any multiplayer game ever. All because of mods.

With a more PC focused GP and the inclusion of mods to boot... This is gonna be really good for MS. Solid move.

I congratulate MS for their second good move this gen. First being backwards compatibility.

I hope Sony adopts mod support for PS5.

Little did Xbox gamers know there's only room for one set of first class citizens.

1. Zen v2 CPU enabled Xbox Scarlet will reduce the need for super optimized programming requirements, hence Xbox Scarlet is effectively a desktop PC that was cost structure optimized for GPU bias machine within game console price range.

Zen v2's level IPC is common with gaming PC's IPC levels.

Xbox Scarlet should be able to slot itself as just Surface (DirectX Box) devices in the PC market.

Scarlet's influenced Windows PC gaming should be enable to re-energized clone war game console's 3DO/MSX vision.

Xbox Scarlet includes MS's DRM and VT hardware standard.

2. DirectX12 DirectML's meta-commands for hit-the-metal common API access for AMD/Intel/NVIDIA GPUs. Different code paths for each GPU family.

Both Xbox Scarlet and Windows gaming PCs has DirectX12 Feature level 12_1 + Turing like extras.

Intel confirmed to support Microsoft's DXR for incoming XeGPU family.

3. AMD RDNA and NVIDIA CUDA GPUs common wave32 compute shader programming model. NVIDIA won the war on wavefront compute systems war.

Both RDNA CU and Turing SM (CUDA v7) has common 64 FP stream processors with wave32 compute format.

Optimizations from Scarlet RDNA would benefit PC RDNA and NVIDIA CUDA v7 wave32.

4.. Windows Store is shifting towards common Xbox One's .XVC install package format.

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/next-version-of-windows-10-xbox-games-native/

Phil Spencer should deliver Bill Gates' original goals for Xbox which is to developed game optimized software ecosystem as "Xbox" and transfer it to the Microsoft's core Windows platform business.

It's welcome to the original home world and back to the original Windows NT progress. "Make Windows Great Again". :P There's only one "DirectX Box".

Xbox Scarlet deals with hardware unification with Windows gaming PC i.e. there's only one DirectX box.

It's time for Microsoft to re-use it's market power with Windows platform.

Mods were cool in 1999, but they have sucked for years.

PC gamers keep bragging about mods but most of them are useless character skins like spider man or turning mudcraps into some stupid lobster from futurerama.

Like who cares? That’s not enough to make games better with mods.

@lundy86_4: Like I said in a diff thread.........

The most popular MP games that are active now, all originated from user/gamer created mods.

AAA movie game devs can suck it.

Intel's improvement with it's IGP is important for MS since Intel has PC GPU market dominance and very important on ultra-books and 2-in-1 tablets.

Intel's success in mobile = Microsoft success in mobile, the two companies' future are linked together in the mobile system wars. Intel's 11th gen tile render GPU is very important just like Apple's Bonic tile based render GPU release.

For AMD's mobile plans, it's RDNA IGP coupled with Zen v2 which is linked with Microsoft's mobile future.

----------

Scarlet is the primary driver to establish minimum performance standard for desktop Windows PC gaming.

Team Xbox has taken over Windows client platform responsibility which is mobile PC and desktop PC devices.

Phil Spencer is responsible for Windows client desktop.

Windows Server teams are with Azure cloud team. Team Xbox has created another team Xcloud to work with Azure cloud team.

@Pedro: Mods are extremely varied so just a blanket statement that they’re overrated makes no sense. You have mods like the Unofficial TES patches that fix hundreds if not thousands of bugs, how can you call that overrated?

The importance of mods are grossly overstated making it an overrated addition. The vast majority of PC gamers don't user mods but PC gamers on the this forums and others like it act as is if the absence is critical for PC gaming when its not. It doesn't mean people don't use or appreciated mods, its means its importance is overrated.

I don't dabble a whole lot with MS store or mods, but cool seeing MS approaching PC gaming with more logic lately, nonetheless.

Scarlet's influenced Windows PC gaming should be enable to re-energized clone war game console's 3DO/MSX vision.

Xbox Scarlet includes MS's DRM and VT hardware standard.

2. DirectX12 DirectML's meta-commands for hit-the-metal common API access for AMD/Intel/NVIDIA GPUs. Different code paths for each GPU family.

Both Xbox Scarlet and Windows gaming PCs has DirectX12 Feature level 12_1 + Turing like extras.

Intel confirmed to support Microsoft's DXR for incoming XeGPU family.

3. AMD RDNA and NVIDIA CUDA GPUs common wave32 compute shader programming model. NVIDIA won the war on wavefront compute systems war.

Both RDNA CU and Turing SM (CUDA v7) has common 64 FP stream processors with wave32 compute format.

Optimizations from Scarlet RDNA would benefit PC RDNA and NVIDIA CUDA v7 wave32.

4.. Windows Store is shifting towards common Xbox One's .XVC install package format.

Being 1st or 2nd class citizen are based on hardware specifications and API software ecosystem.

Zen v2 CPU has narrowed the gap between Xbox and gaming PC for game simulation compute performance. Rendering CPU's view port can easily scale up or down.

XBO's DX11.X and DX12.X lower overhead efforts are mostly for AMD's weak Jaguar CPUs.

Xbox Scarlet is like Windows 10 S mode with PC's desktop CPU and without desktop UI i.e. MS's target cost optimized Steam machine.

When did Pedro become such a sad, salty person?

When did you become a poster worth noting? I've had run-ins with Pedro, but the dude is far from an idiot.
