MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV so popular it actually sold out

Incredible news. First time I heard a MMORPG, more surprising its subscription based is actually sold out on Square Enix digital store! Amazing hype for the expansion among the fans, it is often considered the most played MMO right now with around 14m paid monthly subscriber aswell as many unlimited free trial players.

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker will release November 23 on PS5, PS4, PC and Mac. Can't wait to play the end of saga on the PS5!

As a matter of fact, i am watching asmon right now, and i don't even play the game. And people say that streamers don't sell games lol. That dude is the reason why its sold out on the SE site.

i heard a bunch of people were jumping off the wow train to play this game instead because blizzard kept screwing over their fanbase. Well blizzard has sucked for the past 10 years now, hopefully they get rekkd by SE

peak performance square lol, it makes sense that their website is as ducktaped together as the games engine.

You can still create new characters, just not at peak hour as its based on current server load

I bought the game on sale for all of the expansions for $40.00. I have been playing this mmo on my ps5 with a wireless kb/m. In last couple of days, I have been playing this game for 8 hrs straight. Last time I played games like that, I was deeply into City of heroes.

I maxed out a Dragoon a couple/few years back and didn't go back until a few months ago. I wasn't feeling it, but perhaps that's because I didn't have anyone to play with. I am looking at getting into an MMO with my kids since I'm getting them another TV tomorrow so we can all 3 play any game together and they don't have to fight over playing time.. lol. This way they can play games other than split screen and I don't get forced to play Fortnite or Cold War all the time. I can't believe when I ran it past my wife she actually liked the idea and said it sounded good. :)

Square Enix's marketing team was absolutely brilliant. They put forth a system rewarding their streamers and this is the end-result. The game didnt even see the release of anything major, while its main competitor just released its first major patch. Shows the power of streamers.

@jasonofa36: Neitehr WoW nor FF14 are the biggest mmos out there. While it may be fairly obscure in the west. Dungeon Fighter Online is bigger than both, combined. Raking in HUGE ammounts of money.

That said, FF14 has from what I have seen a stronger Mainstream media presence.I havent seen WoW mentioned in MSM in ages, but FF14 was recently brought up during the funeral of the Kentaru Miaru. Of course, neither WoW nor FF14 have as big of a MSM presence as EVE Online. Where pretty much every major war in that game gets brought up. As they involve millions of real world dollars worth of damage.

@Maroxad: Its mainly Asmongold. And lets not forget the state of WoW, which pretty much everyone is bitchin' about because Blizzard simply doesn't get what their players want.

@hardwenzen: Asmongold is a huge part. But nothing exists in a vacuum. My point is that streamers, such as asmongold have a lot of marketing power. But SE also had a campaign in which they supported their streamer community, which also helped quite a bit.

the SE streamer campaign prob brough XIV twitch viewer counts from 3k to 5k, asmon brought it to 200k+

This game is for you, so lets not pretend that you're not playing it and have multiple max level characters.

Asmon did the lionshare of the work. Hence, I have to wonder why Blizzard seemingly neglect them.

I figured it would be a Chinese or Korean RPG that would be the biggest, since they live and breathe for the genre. Either way, the surge FFXIV is getting is weird. It's gone from having a second, to a third wind.

@Maroxad: Yeah, the biggest MMOs are Korean F2P MMOs like Dungeon Fighter and Black Desert. But as far as subscription MMOs go, FFXIV is currently the biggest, followed by WOW. Those are the only two relevant subscription MMOs on the market.

I have played it and it is a fun game for sure. I am a fisherman/botanist main. (of course)

I'd argue it has less to do with anything FF14 itself did and more to do with WoW churning out a constantly miserable experience for the last 3 years. Which is not to say it's not good, I haven't had time to play FF14 other than it's initial, laughably shit launch, but in general FF14's primary, major competitor is shitting the bed so it seems clear why there's a sudden uptick.

FF14 is a bit overrated to be honest. Its a great mmo, no doubt, but people praise it like its greatest thing ever. Really, I've played it for years off & on, and a lot of times it really just feels like a WoW clone with a FF skin.

My number one peev that I've always hated how you are forced to drag through ALL of the story fetch quests (and there are a SHIT ton of them..) just to unlock certain Raids/dungeons to play with others. This is a pain the ass for when you have friends that are trying to play with you on the better content, and have the proper gear...but they can't.

I could go on and on about the many flaws, but I don't care enough at the moment. 🤷
