Microsoft raising Xbox Series S|X game prices to $70

Beginning in 2023, games built for Xbox Series X|S including Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield will cost $69.99 USD at launch.

This price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles.

Thoughts? Is this move to further encourage the adoption of GamePass?

@Nonstop-Madness: I expected them to follow the industry pricing eventually... I don't like it but I expected it.

That said, I will play most of them on Game Pass anyways and if I do buy one it will not be at launch but on sale (like I do with all games I buy)

The move is because everyone was going to raise their prices cause development costs are higher now. But MS saw a good PR move in keeping the prices lower for as long as possible while hoping Gamepass would pick up the slack.

I fully expected this to happen eventually. It’s disappointing but everyone will be charging more for their games.

Pretty much this as I too expected MS to raise their price to $70 and to be honest, it still doesn't bother me as long as a game looks good & fun to my eyes, I'll still buy it. But in MS's case, I'll just end up playing their 1st-party games on Game Pass/PC.

There have been $70 releases on PC. FF7R comes to mind, although you'd be a fool to pay full price on PC for any game. Ninty will charge $75 just as an extra FU to their players.

A randomly generated Starfield is technically very complex, actuall, btw, tbh.

If anything I can see MS doing this just so their Game Pass value looks even more attractive.

More reason to just stick with Game Pass, it just gives me more reason not to pay that $70 ransom for games publishers want these days, gives me stuff to play while I wait for sales on that other stuff. Now that I got a PS5 too and using PS Now Premium I got tons to play to keep me busy while I wait for publishers to patch their rough games, to release their DLC in an all content edition/bundle, and at a discount price... or for it to come to Game Pass or PS Now, whichever comes first.

They don't need to. Just check the MSRP for their old 1st party games since launch of Switch ( BOTW, Super Mario Odyssey, Luigi...)

Of course Xbox fan will ignore when Sony announced price increase for its games.

@Zero_epyon: day and date 3rd and third party is good enough for me and most people. Yeah first has been lacking recently but the amount of great games that have released recently on GP that I wouldn't generally buy has been worth the monthly cost.

I'm not disputing that. I'm currently subbed. Just waiting for those first party titles.
