Microsoft introduces Xbox Series reservations for Xbox Insiders!

Gotta give MS credit. They're the only ones actually trying to solve the scalping problem. Not Sony, Nintendo, AMD or Nvidia ever gave a try.

I personally would not buy an S as my main console but I can see it appealing to the same crowd that would buy the Switch. If I did more traveling I would consider buying one as a second console for on the road.

If you're on the road, why would you even bother? Get a gaming laptop. Much more expensive, but it serves for more than gaming, which will be very useful.

wow, I didn't know the xbses and x were selling so badly that now have a overflow of them. Kudos to MS for always trying to find new ways to get rid their stock

@regnaston: Yeah, I think it’s a pretty good cheap alternative myself as well. Excellent for portability for sure. Personally wouldn’t get one myself either but that’s mostly due to my preference for the physical format of my games. I have a huge collection of physical games covering the original Xbox, 360, and One. That’s too much for me to give up on for the backwards compatibility front.

Playstation did this a while ago for and after launch. Glad to see Microsoft catch up.

@techhog89: I think Sony attempted this early on before or right before release. They were selecting people from a list of signups using your PSN. They based their selection on your profile but they never said what they were looking for specifically.

Sure, but it is tied to your paid for Xbox Live account. That means unless scalpers are going to start signing up for dozens of Xbox live accounts, with different addresses, phone+numbers (Gamespot actually sensored that phrase) , and other information, they won't be getting more than one Xbox console through the program.

What Xbox is doing is making sure people who actually want a console to use themselves has a way of getting it so they can use data collected from that usage (such as bug reports and surveys) to improve the hardware/software over all. If most your stock is sitting in someone's closet, you're not going to be getting any feedback on actual usage, but more importantly you're also not getting that 30% cut from software sales or selling Live subscriptions.

This looks like the reservation system that Sony had for the PS5. It was tied to your PSN account.

I got an email that I could purchase an XSX but I had to pay in monthly installments for like 4 years... I took a hard pass on that. I just want the console and I'll go from there. Not sure if I will have Ultimate during the duration of the gen or not and don't want to be on the hook for 4 years. I'd rather just pay for everything up front.

Not only that, but they are set to releasing both RTX 3080Ti & 3070Ti this June and that's some weird crap due to GPU shortage. Not the best time releasing any new GPU until the silicon shortage has been stable.

It's not weird, but rather profiting. 3080 Ti chips will be chips that weren't quite good enough to be a 3090, and 3070 Ti chips are........ full 3070 chips without any parts disabled. They're basically increasing the MSRP without increasing the MSRP.

And really, by the time it's stable they'll be making the 4000 series anyway.

Was there language/a clause that said you would lose the Xbox or face a fee if you made a large sum payment after the initial month of two?

I'm not sure. I didn't see anything like that, but they had it set up like a cell phone plan. It looked to me that I would be on the hook for the payments to be taken automatically at spaced intervals in the form of a contract. I never paid more on my cell bill, but I'm guessing if I made a large payment at once it would go toward credit. Either way I did the math and the deal would have easily been right around $900. I would rather get the console and a year of Ultimate and go from there. Although it isn't really the price that matters to me it just didn't have the right vibe.. lol
