Metal Gear Solid producer teasing news for 2023!

Longtime Konami employee and producer on several Metal Gear Solid games, Noriaki Okamura, has said that Konami's keyword of 2023 is "long-awaited".

Konami seems to be preparing a big comeback for some of its core franchises in 2023, which is most evident with the recent announcements of the Silent Hill 2 remake and several other projects for the series. That might just be the beginning, however, as a recent comment from a longtime Konami employee seems to be teasing more to come.

As translated by Gematsu, the latest Famitsu issue features a segment where Japanese gaming developers share their ambitions for 2023, which usually consists of teasing a release window for some of their upcoming games, or confirming that more information will be available soon, such as with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Slitterhead.

Noriaki Okamura represented Konami for the segment and, not only did he reveal some of the company's ambitions for 2023, but he also gave a keyword for the year. That keyword is "long-awaited", which seems to be playing along with fan expectations of some kind of Metal Gear Solid remaster or remake, alongside the already-announced remake of Silent Hill 2.

Okamura also said this when speaking about the studio's ambitions for the year, "Other than (the educational edition of Momotaro Dentetsu announced last year), 2023 will be a year of many announcements! Stay tuned!”

When pairing the word "long-awaited" with Okamura's promises of "many announcements", it does seem to tease something that we don't already know about, rather than just hyping up some of the projects and games that Konami has recently announced. Combine that with Okamura's relationship with the Metal Gear Solid series, and it certainly seems to be teasing its return in some capacity.

Playing through OG MGS1 right now, and it's rough (up to Raven's second boss fight). The series could definitely do with a remake.

@lundy86_4: That game was already remade on the GameCube.

Have you tried Twin Snakes? Most people swear by OG but Twin Snakes doesn't feel as rough to me and is my preference.

I'm aware, and I played the GC version. Silicon Knights used to be located about 20 minutes from where I live.

I've played TS before. I can play it by means SW doesn't allow.

Wild. I've played it recently and found it truly holds up. It's not a janky shooter game before those controls got ironed out and it's top down camera also means it does not have a janky early era 3d camera. In fact, you get a really unique game style that doesn't feel worse when compared to today's stealth action, you just get something unique. And the focus on interesting boss setpieces that still hold up well is a nice touch with today's games having too many samey encounters and moments.

Well Konami already revived Silent Hill, so perhaps they are interested in doing something more than just NFTs?

TBH, i'd be good with a rock-solid PC port. As much as MGS4 could be a drag with cutscenes, i'd like to play the game again without the spotty *cough* emu- *cough.

God forbid they actually make a new one but it's all about remakes. I feel at this stage in the gaming industry we are better off with AI writing games since modern devs are creatively bankrupt.

They should finish making MGS5 before a reboot of the first game.

@davillain:MGS4, other than MGS5 obviously is the only Metal Gear that does not need a remake.

They remade Demon's Souls more than two years ago and TLOU this year so remaking a 2008 game in 2023+ wouldn't be unheard of...

but its honestly still a perfect game IMO.

Give me every other Metal Gear first, by then it will be the year 2030-2035 or something lmao so MGS4 will need an 8K/120fps remake.

Remakes are best way to visit original especially outdated. if it was not for remake I would not discover FF7 remake, RE2 remake which is better than original fixed camera or at best System Shock remake otherwise series would be dead.

complain about remaster all you want but Remakes? they build from ground up, entirely new game unless its last of us remake.

MGS1 remake build on PC with KB/M and OTS view with modern tech is always my dream game.

Forget MGS1... remake Metal Gear 1 / 2 .

They can copy and paste MGS5's gameplay into a jungle setting (Disclaimer: never actually played those games)

@Naylord: Well I thought MGS2 and MGS3 were already wildly outdated in 2008, just 7 and 4 years post release respectively. Due to MGS4 and its perfect controls/gameplay mechanics.

Though I suppose, 17-21 years later and those two games haven't dated much and still hold up extremely well compared to other games that are approaching two decades.

Metal Gear 2 as a remake is a really weird meme. Metal gear 2 on the MSX is actually an incredible game that completely holds up. You never see Metroid fans demand a modern remake of Super Metroid or Zelda fans demand a remake of Link to the Past; those games get the respect they deserve.

The first MGS game was pretty good for its time. Iv never liked any iv played that followed, especially 4 which is the last one I played. So hopefully its a complete reboot that is different and somehow manages to be a good game.

Why does no one ever talk about MGS4? It seems to be the least talked about MGS game.
