Mass Effect: Andromeda character creation is really ugly

I like the way the default Ryder looks. Just play around with the character creator, I'm sure people can make good looking chicks. All other presets are bad though.

Some people might want their character to look like Bruce Jenner.

While it doesn't look Oblivion levels of terrible, it doesn't look particular inspired either.

The facial detailsare non existent, it's like a game from last gen.

Nothing compares to Soulsborne for character creation

Most people will disagree, but really liked Dragon Age: Origins models. Sure the animation was terrible, but they looked like little action figures.

To me that looks much better than the shit in Mass Effect, but subjective obv.

In fact even on the same engine I would Say Dragon Age Inquisition has far better looking character models

The movement animations are bad, the facial animations are f***ing awful. They had nearly 5 damn years and a brand new engine and they are still using facial animation tech that was objectively bad when the first game released in 2007. The Source engine came out in 2004, the FEAR engine came out in 2006, we get yearly BF/CoD game with good facial animations, and yet we still have games like this and Skyrim (heavily scripted, cut-scene heavy RPGs!) with facial animations that have mouth and eye rigging and nothing else. How f***ing hard is it to bolt on some decent facial animation and lip-synching tech to an engine like this? It has literally been available for over a decade. This is inexcusable in a RPG with so many cut-scenes where you will be watching characters converse.

I really want to get hyped about this, I am a huge ME fan. But all the stuff pouring out this week - small ass multiplayer maps (smaller than ME3), bad animations/cutscenes, not that great opening hour, combined with all the other questionable if not bad decisions - the overly convoluted skill system, uninteresting/unlikable companions and aliens, the unneeded and unnecessarily complex busy-work crafting system just make the game unappealing. It is seriously killing my already limited excitement.

I really wanted this game to be good, I really wanted it to wow me. But here we are a week out from release and everything just looks so mediocre...

Character creation has always been garbage for Mass Effect. I'll guarantee someone will be modding in male/fem Shep in, instead of that goofy looking Farquaad dude.

Meh. I don't give a fucks about the characters creations or the looks. All I really want to do is just play the game and tell the tale.

It wasn't good in the others either... I used default shep every time. Looks like I'll probably be doing the same with this game.

There won't be any official support for mods with Andromeda either, although Gamble remarked that "as we see the reaction to these things those plans can change very quickly". Given the good work the modding community did with the original Mass Effect trilogy - the high-res texture packs are just one of many things that come to mind, not to mention all the mods for Bioware games of old - I wouldn't be surprised if there was movement on this later this year, although it could be a case where Bioware offers their tacit approval without releasing an official toolkit.

Who knows? I'm not that well versed on the modding scene with regards to ME, and I haven't kept up on Andromeda... In an info blackout until release.

Whew. Thank goodness this is just an arbitrary first step in the game that has no bearing on actual gameplay whatsoever.

I can work with it. Though character creations need a mesh mode so you can see more clearly the jawlines and cheekbones or how round the head is and a lighting feature that lets you see your creations in different lighting and see how shadows affect the look.

The startup faces may be lacking, but after that it all comes down to the sliders and how well you can tweak the features.

And I really like the improvements in the female hair rendering and selection. Seeing a ponytail option makes me happy. (say hello to Lara Ryder)

Mass Effect was praised early in the debut for its excellent graphics.

No matter what, unlike Bioware's previous character model engines, this one does not allow for handsome custom heroes. It's almost like they did it on purpose.

I tried making a custom Shepherd in ME2 but didn't like the way he looked after an hour of play. Due to that, I restarted with the default. I'll stick to default here as well.

With a little tweeking you can make a good looking character.

That is not the only problem. The game doesn't have an option for different eyes, nose, mouth, ears and so on. You can tweak most of those, but there's no other choices available. At the end, no matter how much tweaking you've done, the difference will not be that big (which is bad because the startup faces are garbage as you've already mentioned).

This is the third weakest character creation tool this gen *from the games i've played*.

Pretty much everything in this game is less than it was. From the story (Brand new galaxy...a couple of new races), setting (so far), gameplay (Cover system annoying), animation (enough said), character creation (enough said). It's a mess. I'm playing it, I should be way into this shit, but I'm not. I'm mildly enjoying it, and my mind is focused instead on waiting for Persona. Because Bioware let it's best workers leave and kept on a bunch of idealistic social justice warriors who can't design a great game and whose characters are all annoying. The computer AI sounds like Dale Winton.

It's Mass Effect. You can sleep walk to a good game just basing it on the others, but they've failed to my mind. I thought the animation problems would be exaggerated. The lack of emotion or realism in them is laughable at times. And the stock characters are all pretty damn ugly and specific. There's no generic person X, they all look like they've come from a second rate cosplaying exhibition populated by ugly dweebs. It's fantasy, I want to create a good looking character.

This can't be patched. This can only be fixed by a sequel with a new team.

What no..... besides the horrible facial animations and mutated faces, the game looks amazing in terms of visuals. But I guess some of you hate the game so much that truth doesn't matter anymore. I think the main reason why people hate this game so much is because the sjw devs and horrible facial animations. The game got ton of hate from anti-sjw youtubers. If not for these things the game wouldn't even gotten so much shit.
