March 2019 NPD: Switch was the best-selling platform of the month and for Q1 2019

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of March in the United States. Not only that, but the same also applies to Q1 2019 as a whole. That goes for both unit and dollar sales. Yoshi’s Crafted World managed to crack the top ten software sales chart for the month as well, coming in at #9. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate led the way for Nintendo at #5.

NPD Group has released a listing of the top twenty best-selling games in the U.S. for the month of March 2019. The results can be found below.

Congrats to the winners and I'm pleased to see the Division 2 on top, easily my favorite game of the year and a great improvement over the first title.... definitely one the best PVE coop games I've ever played.

Well of course the Switch won. The more interesting bit of info is the above chart. Smash outsold Spider-Man AND God of War in a fraction of the time on an install base 1/3rd of the size. I think we can stop talking about the importance of exclusives as it relates to Sony's success. Playstation gamers clearly don't think they're as important as Cows do.

Not surprising to see the Switch continuing to do so well, it really is a great system. Nice to see Yoshi’s Crafted World make the top ten. It’s a shame that the Nintendo games don’t include the digital sales as well because I’m sure that most would probably place higher.

Yes but the switch doesn't have the kind of 3rd party competition the xbox and ps4 have.

Is not a surprise to see this Nintendo games have high attach rate,while 3rd party games attach rate is lower compare to other platforms it has been like this for generations.

Exactly, there's nothing to play on Switch other than Nintendo exclusives. No one is buying a Switch to play COD or RDR2.

PS4 exclusives are impressive because they manage to sell well despite stiff competition from big third party games on PS4. Anyone who can't see this is either dumb or a fanboy.

Of course PS4 is dying it's almost 6 years old, at this point in time the Wii was dead.

If we took away a PS4 sale for every copy of God of War and Spider-Man sold, the console would still be in first. That tells us that a) PS4 owners don’t particularly find the games to be “essential” and b) the games might not be the “system sellers” we were led to believe.

PS4 exclusives still sell like fire, HZD is at 10 million and GOW, Spiderman and UC4 are definitely higher. You can’t say that PS4 would be as successful without its exclusives because that’s a straight up lie based on the sales of these exclusives and the huge bumps in sales we see every time they release.

GOW and Spiderman propelled the PS4 to be the number 1 selling console in the world last year despite the fact it was on its 5th year competing with the relatively newer Switch. The numbers don’t lie, PS4 saw huge spikes in sales in NPD and worldwide sales the months GOW and Spiderman launched, and if TLOU2 launches this year PS4 will undoubtedly see huge spikes in sales as well. Nintendo’s most popular IP selling phenomenally well doesn’t change this fact unless you want to admit Mario Kart isn’t a huge seller since both GOW and Spiderman beat it on that list.

? Don’t get ahead of yourself, just because sales are slowing down doesn’t mean it’s dead. There’s rumors Sony is about to release a PS4 Super Slim using 7nm APUs that they can sell very cheap for $200. If they release that it will definitely boost sales again. In any case, PS4 selling well over 100 million consoles isn’t something to be scoffed at as it will most likely be the third highest selling console of all time when it’s all said and done. We probably will never see a console beat PS2’s record those times are long gone.

IMO the reason why the Switch failed early on to an extent is because the marketing was completely American centric

and ignored the fact that gaming is more global now...

It got so bad that I don't even visit NoA's website any o anymore and stuff.. preferring NoE which is rather well run in

my opinion.

Obviously we can still get our games here in America also and consoles since NoA only does marketing and stuff basically

anyway... everything meaningful runs through Japan and they're still committed here...

So really everyone wins IMO.
