Female. I'm a trans person born with a male body. Games that give me that choice are a great way for me to project myself in a safe way that matches my gender.
Straight guys that always make female characters weird me out with their mommy issues. And don't say you're just more comfortable with your sexuality because that is the most common rebuttal I get when this topic comes up.
Worrying about people playing as someone they are not in a world in which nothing is real, is a bit like feminists worrying about the appearance of female game characters as if they are meant to be a realistic representation of real women in the real world.
If it's a form of escapism or exploration of the unreal, then having unrealistic women in a game and playing as someone you're not makes some sense. I don't think there need to be mommy issues.
For the most part, I choose male because, well I am male.
But sometimes I choose the female avatar purely because It's better to look at a Woman's ass than a Man's ass.
