MAFIA III is officially in development, 2K has confirmed.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment, though more will apparently be revealed at Gamescom, where the official announcement trailer will be revealed on August 5 at 5am PT / 8 am PT / 1pm GMT.

Hopefully it's not shit.

Are they going to make it just a pure shooter this time? Because I don't understand why these games are open world, complete waste of time.

Hopefully its not too action oriented. I want their atmosphere and interesting characters, not a cover shooter and drive hookers from one side of the map to another.

NO it wasn't, the whole foilage thing was Fable 2 and....god I don't even remember Fable 2 guys name. But he was the guy counting the tree leeves. Soren or some shit. That was it.

Fucking Mafia 2 first it gets called a good game and then it gets credited with SW lore it didn't have anything to do with. Let's call a spade a spade it is SW lore entirely because I hate on it, that is not hubris, that is not ego, that is a statement of fact. Hell even I've gotten in on the act, because even my recent round of posts are more to live up to the vitriol that I am expected to deliver for it, but this I'm genuinely bothered by. Da foilage began, because of Fable 2's foilage king status. How dare you desmonic?

Because it happened after Fable 2. Da foilage itself happened in 08, the whole kings for everything probably started that year because Alan Wake was apparently "Jacket king" and I'm like yeah as a sign of bad fashion taste. That jacket is atrocious.

Have to agree with jg4 on this one, M2 was pretty shitty all around. I still kind of liked it, but that has more to do with the Mafia-thing rather than anything the game actually did. All gameplay elements were poorly done. The open world was useless. The story/characters had some good moments, but it was mostly about doing stuff from mafia-movies (like burying a poor guy who was accidently shot at the bar reminded a tiny bit of Goodfellas...)

In this third installment, we finally, find out where Jimmy Hoffa is.

I am fraught with skepticism.

I played the first one on PC. I went through a red light and got fined. My brother told me to drive "properly", I just stared at him in disbelief. Then the game crashed, and I stopped playing PC for a good while. Ah Mafia. You suck :P

I hope we get to go to prison again.

Eh the first Mafia was pretty phenomenal, it went through great lengths for immersion although perhaps a bit too far for some.

I actually enjoyed Mafia 2, the story/characters were a huge letdown after the first game, especially the ending which the first game NAILED. However I loved the atmosphere and the mechanics were ok, not spectacular but not terrible either.

Curious to see how they handle the new time period/setting, to be honest I'd probably be happiest if they just went back to the 20's.
