Well, it was a good laugh. :)

Anyway, it's hard to imagine that the inventor of the 3.5 inch diskette, Triniton colour TV, transistor radio, walkman, CD, CD-ROM, DVD, the first home video, Blu-Ray, CELL and so on began with a rice cooker.

And it's even harder to understand that it also started the thierd biggest music company and the company with the biggest movie library, not forgetting the gross record for earnings on movies.

Oh well, why didn't I think of that rise-cooker? :(

Sony invented the CD and DVD( and other companies here) with Phillips, the reason why other companies have payed royalties for using these formats and why Nintendo payed Sony to make a CD drive for their console.

And sorry about the radio but I was writing it in a hurry and out of my memory.

I was supposed to write the worlds first pocket transistor radio. :)

3.5 became the standard and it held more data.

Are you saying that the jump from CD to DVD was hardly an accomplishment? Because the jump from 8 to 3.5 with extra storage space is just as big.

For God's sake, the 3.5 is still included in PCs you buy today, where's the 8inch drive?.

I mean just because some people used headsets with pocket radios( which were invented by Sony) you can't really call them inventors of the walkman.

Sony thought of the concept and took the risk it was to mass produce the walkman, plus Sony had enough belief in it to take the patent.

Oh, and it failed due to faulty design defects.

And in 60 years all they have progressed onto is a Grill

and the award for the cheapest joke of the day goes to!!

ROFL. I couldn't resist it  :D

Toshiba made DVD and Sony was against them with there MMCD format kind of like today with Blu ray and HD DVD

The true story is that Sony and Phillip's MMCD was competing with Toshiba, **** and Time Warner's SD but they were forced to join and create the DVD which assembles MMCD much more than the SD.

DVD became an industry standard and to produce DVD players, one needs to license a range of patents, owned by different companies. A number of th key companies Philips, Sony, **** and Toshiba decided to license the necessary patents through one licensing agent and Philips was elected to take up the administrative role.

Do you really think that Sony would have used DVD in PS2 when it supported another format? No.

Sony co-invented the DVD, just do a google on it, the DVD wasn't invented by one company just like the BD isn't.

Yes Both Sony and Phillips where against Toshiba at first but both companies later joined in and helped out.

Btw Vongak  i passed my digital circuit class :) ..but unfortunately failed  at  VLSI design :(

true

also i heard they kinda f***ed the DVD format up by adding somethong to the design to make it tougher but the side effect gave it less disc capacity it was originally supposed to hold 5GBs which kinda suck i guess that happens when oppusing sides make comprimises

I know sony co invented  it but they were making MMCD first. they gave up backing it cus SD had way more support and sony only added 2 things to the SD format evrything else was already in there before sony hopped on board

Never heard of that but it could be true i do know that Sony did dislike something about DVD's ..but here's a question would you rather have a more capacity   or  slightly less capacity and a more durable  format  ?

You are taking VLSI? Cool, seems like you really want to know processing units from the lowest level possible and up, that's quite some digging.

Anyway, congrats with your digital circuit class, it's much more important( just tell them that a Danish person said so over the net). :D

Well one thing was for sure, Sony wouldn't risk another Betamax and opted to play it safe.

I guess that the lack of Movie studio support at the Betamax era is what made Sony realise that they needed a foothold in the entertainment industry to ensure backing of its future formats.
