So in this thread lets rank RE series from best to worst shall we?

Here I mention those I played

Heres how I rank based on games I played.

The best is RE7 follow by RE2 remake. yet none of them are masterpieces. just good/decent games. infact RE2 remake is alright not bad, original RE2 was even though outdated even for its time better than games it follow by long margin because it was still horror game unlike 4,5 6.

RE7 is best by far imo, it did everything better than others. especially atmosphere. little focus on combat and more hide and seak especially first half baker house.

RE2 is best third person RE game by long margin. it did everything 1000 times better than 4 and 5 did.

Village is most disappointing game this year. took RE7 formula and flush out everything good about it. remain being terrible first person shooting game. RE series got better past gen then once again get bad this current gen.

the worst I played is 6 ie cinematic third person movie game.

So my friends, lets rank the series from best to worst.

I'm not gonna rank them all, but my favorite recent game is RE2 remake. RE3 remake was too short, but I liked it. That was a cash grab. While I liked RE7 (didn't play 8 yet, will next year when they release RE:VERSE), it just wasn't RE to me. RE1 will always hold a place in my heart, just a certain feeling when you play it, that nostalgia. While I enjoyed 4, it's time to move on. Code Veronica still isn't slated for a remake and the pure disrespect from Capcom about it is just astonishing. Fans didn't want a 4 remake, they wanted CV. I'm looking forward to the new Revelations game that was leaked, Outrage. Maybe that'll bring things back down to real RE.

Yikes. I just saw a rumor saying that RE: Outrage may be a Switch timed exclusive, which would be a huge misstep by Capcom considering Xbox Series X/S and PS5 are the current gen consoles. You'd think you'd want to get your product out on that new updated hardware vs a Switch. I'd think even more so after they already delayed RE:VERSE to 2022.

8 is easily the worst imo.

I cant say worst but you were right cup. it was fine for first half then second half after doll segment which is glorified walking sim. game become bad. then factory part happened and it become a bad shooter.

I hate when games waste your time.

The thing about something like Halflife, it tends to bypass this by presenting a compelling world. The tram basically sitting doing fuckall, but at the same time the game world is being build and set up in a matter of minutes, using mundane normality to make the crescendo jump into combat focused gameplay more effective.

Resident Evil 8 starts with the mundane, but uses gameplay crux to hamper the player rather than something that feels organic. Namely, shitty hobbled walking and walking round clicking scripted objects that might as well say in hold caps "THIS IS STORY CONTENT CLICK ME".

The world building is bad, and then it jumps into anime drama where nothing was built up to give a shit about.

And then instead of stopping, continues. And continues. And continues. And continues to waste your fucking time with nonsense.

Apparently this is what kids and journos like now. I donno.

Its overwelming positive on steam!!. Are you kidding me???

They are giving overwelmingly positive 95% score to first person cinematic movie game with bad gameplay.

Not going to count all the side games.

Don't feel like ranking them, but RE4 is definitely at the top of the list. And I don't think RE6 was as bad as people at large believed, if anything I mostly thought it lacked polish, I had no issues with design, except maybe too many redundant converging cross-over paths in the different campaigns.

Of the modern games, I think RE2 Remake tops it. Though I was disappointed with RE3 remake I think I still enjoyed it more than RE7 or RE8.

RE2 is king and will always be.

Kind of weird that it was directed by a dude who claims to hate horror.

I'm actually surprised at how little I'm enjoying the replay of RE4. I remember really liking it on the Gamecube, but the gameplay doesn't hold up anymore. It's sluggish and frustrating, and it's a massive tonal departure from the previous entries (not much horror, deep into cheesy action movie territory). Bonus points for having the worst AI partner in the series.

As for the others I haven't played in ages: RE5 is a brilliant co-op game, RE6 is a solid action game (plus some bloat), RE Revelations 1 is fairly mediocre, RE 1 DS was great fun, and I enjoyed the Chronicles light-gun games.

The best is easily RE2 remake played WITH the original soundtrack (sucks you have to purchase it).

After that I'd say REmake and then Code Veronica. I know CV gets some hate but I really loved it.

Really? RE3 Nemesis has always been my favorite but Code Veronica is the one in the series that I completely missed out on. I've been thinking of doing a playthrough of it soon but, I don't know. Once I play through it, that's it, there will never be an early Resident Evil game to look forward to playing and the new ones pale in comparison. Soul Reaver is one of my favorite series of all time though.

I reaaally need to play more RE. Like REmake and REmake 2. So my weak ass list currently looks like this:

Only played RE1R, which felt too old and needs a proper remake. RE2R which is my favorite. RE3R was the worst RE game that i played. RE4 was great and does a lot of things better than all other RE games. RE5 was mediocre, but i still spent over 100h playing in coop for online leaderboards. RE8 was worse than RE5, an abomination of a Resident Evil.

Worst to best. 6,5,1,3,7,8,2,4 speaking on just original releases

Come to think of it, this series has so much potential, but Capcom hasn't evolved it at all. What if the levels were much bigger? Not an open world, but a lot more room for you to be in. So for example, instead of a tiny police station with about 12 rooms or so, what if it was a full 5 story high building/complex with a bunch of side objectives and loads of rooms for you to explore and find side stories and such. Think i am getting tired of every RE game being linear af. Its like i know exactly what to expect from the next entry, even tho we haven't heard nor seen anything about it. From what i remember, Silent Hill 2 did this much better.

RE is one of the most overrated franchise since its existance.

originals were clunky even for its time. come on in 1998 we had Half life and MGS. in 1996 we had Quake. all those games were far ahead of RE 1 and 2. RE3 was inferior yet similar.

RE4 was what people praised mostly because "OMG it change the formula" not. it was still clunky game but become clunky action game instead of horror and we had max payne and Mafia before that done better third person shooters.

then RE5 and 6 were hated no one liked it.

RE7 divided fans for me it was only great RE game and for some it was not RE game despite its most horror game of franchise and has best controlling and camera.

RE2 remake is finally they done a fine third person RE game without being clunky and was actually good albeit too short and only 2 location in general ie lack of variety.

RE3 is action cash grab

RE8 is once again did what RE5 did turning itno all action but in first person and not even a good action shooter ie disappointing game.

Its never been a good series. neither horror nor action. it always suffer from identity crisis.

@eoten: Code Veronica is great! My only hesitation is I'm unsure how any one of these old tanky games feel played for the first time in 2021/without a prior attachment. But since you are already a fan of the other old ones I don't see why you wouldn't like it.

@hardwenzen: I'd prefer a game that's has replay value. Not every game has to be 60 hours. That's why we all have huge backlogs. A game doesn't have to have an open world to be fun. Holding forward all day doesn't improve gameplay.

The very first one on the Playstation is still the best. Not knowing whats going on, just run into a mansion and the story is revealed from their. The Resident Evil 2 was great. But after that? So many bad games IMO. No point in ranking them other than RE1, RE2, and RE4 are the best.

That's not true on steam reviews, metacritic, open critic, IGN, gamespot, games radar, Kotaku and everywhere else. RE4 is significantly better than any of those trash fps bro games you like.

mainstream ciritics are paid to give high score to any AAA mainstream game. doesnot matter.

There is no mention of Zero, Revelations , Chronicles , Outbreaks in the OP. RE 4 is my fav and worst was Dead Aim.
