It is June 9th, 2010, and Halo: Combat Evolved is still the King of the FPS

It's almost been a decade people, and not one first person shooter has stood the test of time to defy this console god. It still holds up fantastically and in my opinion will never get old. Will there ever be a game more groundbreaking than this?

Halo 1 was among the best FPS ever made for it's time IMO, and i'm a massive PC gamer. There is a reason it got so popular from very little hype back in the day. it got a 9.7 and by todays scoring would of got a 10 easily. That said Half Life 1-2 IMO were better for it's time.

people saying couterstrike and Half lilfe are better well HAha No half lfie 1 was great loved it to me it was below Halo ce but not better, and half life 2 horrid story, generic shooting, only good gun was the Gravity gun, couterstrike i hated theres depth but when no one uses it, all i can say is Bleh,, halo ce to me stood it's time and is the best, many games are up to it and on par but none better not yet,

lets see halo do that that just proves that goldeneye was a verypopular name so popular people want a remake,

perfect dark is in the same cateogory because it to had a remake 10 yrs later

and that remake sold very wellon the marketplace

Maybe Console FPS king (through I found Timesplitters 2 to be a lot more fun, so I probably even disagree with that) but compare to PC FPS, yeah no, Halo is nowhere close to being FPS king IMO.

Well, I agree whole heartedly. The single player is top 5 at least (I don't know how anyone could debae this) and the multiplayer maps are still considered the greatest ever made. It was the best overall shooter made too bad it didn't have online.

Combat Evolved was, and still is an awesome game. But is it still the king of first person shooters? In my opinion- No, it never was.

Well it's my favorite FPS, so sure I'll agree. I had some great times with 12-16 ppl multiplayer via system link back in the day.

Not even close. Halo CE was great for it's time, and it might be a contender for best FPS on CONSOLES, but if PC is included, then it's not even close.

not for me... surely it was a great game back then, but imo never was the best and surely isnt the king of FPS today :)

It wasn't the best FPS when it released so why would it be now?

That pretty much sums it up right there.

It is one of the best fps that is for sure. The mp maps are probably the best made. Some of the single player levels are considered best levels ever made.

It wasn't even the best back then. I'd call it the best CONSOLE FPS back then, but overall, no.
