Especially its mods inspired many great games. DotA mod inspired game like LoL, HoN, RoTT, Demigod and many more.

Also it has many TD(Tower Defenses) - I am not sure which one were inspired by WC3 TDs, but surely some were.

LoL would be great if it didnt have those damn server/reconnect issues. And they are starting to milk with champions too. But i agree with TC, W3 is pretty influential to these games.

Not the most influential but definitely in the top 10 as it spawned the MOBA genre.

It certainly was a great game and had a big effect on most recent RTS's. Sadly, though, if you mention Warcraft to a non-gamer, they just assume you're talking about WOW.

Halo or Gears (Change it to RE4 if you want) was much more influential.

There were and are a lot of influential games.. but to be "the most" influential... I know of no such game.

On certain genres like RTS, but not all.. I would have titled this thread differently.
I expected to come in here and facepalm over some guy claiming that Warcraft has revolutionized all aspects of the gaming world.

I would say, Starcraft, as most of the maps that were in Warcraft 3 (tower defenses, Dota, footman frenzy) started as maps in Starcraft. Aeon of Strife for example, tons of turret defense games, and of course Evolves/Hydra Rancher/etc. WC3 definitely refined them into genres of their own, though. But it owes almost all of its custom maps to Starcraft.

As for most influential, I really doubt either of those are it, really. There are so many other genres that it didn't really influence... It would be so hard to say. I mean, what about HL/HL2, and counterstrike, and Team Fortress? What about... yeah, it goes on.

The game itself? Not really. But the mods for it? Definitly among most influential. I wouldn't say the most, because while there's plenty of DOTA clones there are far more clones (like 300-500 times more and no, I'm not joking) of something like Mystery Case Files.

Not with games like Doom 3 (for technical innovations), World of Warcraft (for MMO's in general) and Halo (for regenerating health, despite itself not having it) out there.

Undoubtely one of the most influential, yes. It becomes "the" most influential if you stretch things a bit and also count the fact that it built the first WoW fanbase, but I wouldn't go that far.

It's a Blizzard game, after all. All of their games since Diablo has been a major revolution in gaming.

Nah. In recent two years the genre evolved like hell. Nowadays it's standard to have strong adventure elements in those games, including decent plot and typical object-based puzzle solving. There are at least 1-2 fun hidden object titles released every month.

Yeah, it spawned a new genre which i love (i'm pumping in countless hours into League of Legends, God, that game is addictive). A good deal of these DOTA clones appeared in the late 00s.

So since it created a new genre, it is the most influencial game of the late 00s.

I don't know, i honestly don't think so, the game is amazing, is no doubt one of my favorite PC games ever and the campaign is probably the best for an RTS (much better than SC and SC2 campaigns and maybe at par with the CoH campaign), however, i wouldn't say is the most influential game, i think is between GTA:SA, Halo and WoW.

Oh man, i would love to see Warcraft 4, sadly that awful thing called WoW won't allow it :( (ok, is not awful, i just don't like it at all)

warcraft 3 didnt influence much of anything... even when blizz was making SC2 they chose to ignore all the added gameplay mechanics of WC3 and go back to what works. If WC3 cant even influence blizz, its probably not influencing anyone else.

Influential? No.. I might give that one to Halo even though I hate it's guts considering it kind of started the FPS craze.

Was definitely more influential than SC2 will ever be.....and the custom games it produced back then were awesome. It most certainly did have a large influence on RTS' afterwards. I wouldn't say the MOST influential game, it might be a top 10 though.

I think warcraft 3 was certainly a unique game and a beast of its own, but on a broader scale it hardly spread its influence on anything.

I don't think so. Going by influence there are many contenders to be the most influential. GTA3, Halo, Gears of War, Mystery Case Files(this is probably the winner with the most clones). Also it's probably Warcraft 3 Mods and not Warcraft 3 itself the influential one(DOTA created the MOBA genre). Don't know if I'm missing some other game.

Starcraft TDs were just mazes and stacked cannons/sunkens. You really can't compare what Starcraft did for TDs with what WC3 did.

Far evolved with WC3...

Just like the FPS genre far evolved with Wolfenstein 3D.. there were other earlier first person shooters before Wolf3D..

Still can't say it created the genre, especially when there was something VERY similar before it.

Technically, DotA was a WC3 port of the SC map, Aeon of Strife, the first ever MOBA.

However, if we have to talk in these terms, no game past 2000 ever influenced anything.

Yes but still DOTA is MOBA. Calling Aeon of Strife a MOBA is like calling Alone in the Dark a Survival Horror, Space Panic or Frogs platformers or Herzog Zwei a RTS.
