Is this a contradiction?

How can XBL be a rip off. 360 boys say you get what you pay for but ps3 fans say free is always better. Then in the very next breath, the ps3 boys say the ps3 is a get what you pay for system, that its worth more because its a better console. Can somebody explain to me how XBL can be deemed a rip off yet the ps3 cant (even though its a games machine with just 10 games compared with hundreds on 360).

Ps, just for the record i dont yet have an oppinion on the ps3 being worth the money or not, since i havent played on one.

The argument is used interchangibly between Cows and Lemmings because honestly, it doesn't really fit their philosophies 100%.

In my opinion, neither are really worth the cost.

In the end, it doesn't matter how much something costs, it's all about whether or not the cost is justified, and for XBL and the PS3, sometimes I cannot see how it is.

I think the difference is between cheap and expensive.

free for PSN is cheap hence you get what you pay for, most people that have had a XBL account would say it's a fairly good deal.

$400 is not really cheap for a game console but $600 is expensive. 

Now I'll flip it around. 

Imagine if XBL was $15 and PSN was $5. now the service becomes expensive and though 5 isn't really cheap for PSN it's alot better deal than $15.

Now we make the 360 $150 and the ps3 $300.  Now even though the 360 is cheap it's going to take some effort to get it to this price.  LIke takingout the HDD, and lowering some of the specs to the point where the ps3 is obviously dominating.

For the most part cheap doesn't work and neither does expensive (both of which sony is tring to do).  For example would you buy a Rolex for $25?, no of course not it's probably a cheap fake, but would you buy one for 5,000? no probably not, thats expensive.

XBL is a rip-off because everywhere else online gaming (other than MMOs) is free. PS3 is worth the money and the whole price argument against it stupid because with 360, you're spending $400, $50 a year for XBL, $20 for a controller charger, and for optional things to equal a PS3 - $200 for HD-DVD, $100 for Wifi. In all no matter what owning a 360 is going to cost you the same or more as a PS3 in the end. If you only want games - same cost. If you want other features, 360 costs a hell of a lot more because of proprietary HDDs, charger, Wifi, camera, and HD-DVD as an add-on. While PS3 uses generic cheap HDDs, built in Wifi / Blu-ray, generic flash memory cards, generic usb charger cable, and is built to be an open computer platform.

You'd have to be a shortsighted moron to think 360 is going to cost you less or somehow a better deal.  This is game preference aside and focusing on hardware/services costs so don't even go there.

You got your play if you whooped ass on Halo 2.  Anything else hard to speak about personally.  Now its relegated to getting Arcade downloads for me but the new Halo 2 multiplayer pack might make me dig up the Xbox because I really like the addictive level design.  Also you never know you might meet somebody with Live (lol dont count on it)
