Is Mario relevant anymore to gaming?
Mario, our beloved character, the face of Nintendo.
are u guys still look forward to any of his sequel or side-games(kart, tennis)?

There isn't much information about Mario for Wii, except the fact that it appear to look like we will be able to swing our arm and have Mario throw a star. I couldn't give a crap about storyline for any of Mario game; gameplay is what ppl remember, jumping from platform to platform, have the ability to get into the frog's suit (circa SMB 3)

that's what awesome about Mario's series!!!

what should be improve in the next Mario's game?:D

Super Paper Mario.

April 9th.

I think there's a good chance it'll be the Wii's next AAA game. ;)

It was supposed to be on the GC before they cancled it. Is there any more games to keep a GC?? or is it done.

The last good game was Zelda. But if you're going to sell your GC, keep the games and the controllers -- especially the controllers, because the GC controller can be used for some VC games and GC games. And probably one or two Wii games. o_O

I grew up with Mario games, and I will always love the classics, but Mario, and Nintendo represent gaming's past in my mind. I have moved on. I'm not going to argue that Mario isn't relevant to gaming anymore, but he's certainly not getting anymore of my gaming dollars.

Mario really got an overkill during and after the GameCube era. There was a new mario themed game like every month....soccer, tennis, baseball, paper mario, sunshine, mario & luigi saga, golf, new super mario bros, mario kart ds, mario kart double dash...etc. Now we get it all over again with all versions of super mario64, mario world etc. being re-released on GBA, DS and Wii....i'm kinda tired of Mario right now. They should keep the original mario series, like new super mario bros, the upcoming galaxies, paper mario and mario kart. Please nintendo, stop making the rest.

Of course he's relevant. Many people unfamiliar with gaming associate gaming with either Mario or brutal murders. He's still the first stepping stone for many gamers as well and for that he will always be relevant.

Mario games are no longer the flagship titles for Nintendo consoles; notice no Mario title on Wii's release, Zelda TP and Wii Sports took its place. I still think Mario games (Kart, Adventure, and RPG ONLY) are as good as ever but they are no longer the big titles.

The fact that Mario Galaxy is one of the most anticipated games of year and New Super Mario Bros was the best selling handheld game of 2006 pretty much answers your question. Yes, Mario is still very relevant.

People hold on to his memory but tbh, mario has been surpassed. he's no longer the gaming legend he was. i dont think mario whenever i think gaming anymore.

While Mario's place has changed slightly over the years, he still holds his position of Mascot of the gaming industry with an iron fist. a Mario platformer is always highly anticipated, and he even has spin offs that have gained recognition of their own. In short, yes, Mario is stll relevant to gaming.

Mario is still the #1 video game franchise in history. With NSMB showing that everybody still loves classic Mario gameplay, and with Super Mario Galaxy being one of the most anticipated titles of 2007,Mario is still a big part of gaming.

Thats erroneous thinking...the fact that Mario still sells so well and is hyped so much shows he still has revelance to the people buying and hyping his games.

And none of those platformers you mentioned before have had near the relevance of Mario nor will they ever.  They are all just different products of the SM64 mold...

When another platformer manages to reinvent the genre like Mario has done multiple times, then you can say THEY have relevance...otherwise, its just another series tweaking a tried and true formula

And hey Jak, Ratchet, and Sly are all great games, but they arent anythig out of the ordinary and they run of the the template Mario set.

And Mario will always have some relevance, considering his games push units and systems like crazy...the enitre market gets affected when a Mario game releases, especially one from the series proper.

What we should be asking are other old mascots like Sonic or Mega Man relevant anymore...

I bought a Mario shirt (Racoon Mario from SMB3) and whenever I wear it to work, at least one kid (12 or younger) asks me about the shirt and then talks to me about Mario. So, I would say that Mario is a still a very valid figure in gaming.
And for the record, only a handful have ever mentioned anything about my Halo 3 shirt. :) (Master Chief being M for Mature and all...)

Nope. The last great Mario game was Mario 64, whilst the rest of the more successful (yet not 'great') Mario titles were simply used to destroy the IP [Mario Strikers, Mario Tennis, Mario Baseball, Mario Party, etc.].

I honestly am getting sick of the overuse of Mario. For one, the NGC and handhelds overdid it. Paper Mario, Mario Party, Mario Golf, Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Kart, Super Mario Bros., Sunshine, etc. I mean COME ON!! The Zelda was ok, because it was paced pretty ok in the NGC life. But Mario just over did it for me. The only acceptable Marios are SSB (not really Mario....), and some of the handhelds. I think they need to dish out the mario in moderation.....jeez.

Paper Mario is actually great, so don't whine about it. I agree that the sports games and such are overdone, but Paper Mario and the handheld Mario games (such as New Super Mario Bros. or Super Mario Land) are all great as well.

Mario will always be an influence and part of gaming history. You can't rewrite history, period... for that reason Mario is and will always be relevant to gaming.
