I've had this game for a couple weekends now, and I love it. Way more fun than Mario Kart 8 in my opinion. The drifting is better, it's an actual challenge, the different modes are fun. Overall, this takes the cake for me between these two games. What about you, SW? Which game is better? Crash Bandicoot Team racing remake or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

Ive yet to try it but i have played the original and that one isnt all that. I felt more inclined to get the new Sega one on Switch.

SNES Mario Kart

Mario Kart 64

Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart 7

Mario Kart 8

All these are better than crash imo, and ironically its because of the drift mechanism, which i really dig in 64. Not to say i dont dig snaking in mk ds, as well.

I personally like them both, but I'll say this. Crash Team Racing is a lot harder but rewards you for learning it more obviously. I like the characters in CTR more as well. There is a lot to do and unlock which is nice. I recommend this for people who like a challenge in a Kart game. If I must pick one, it's CTR over MK8 for me but at the end of the day, I like'em both, it's a bit unfair to compare one game to an entire series.

Edit: If you had compare Diddy Kong Racing & Crash Team Racing, Diddy Kong Racing totally shits all over CTR.

Mechanically I'm inclined to say yes (it's been years since I played CTR prior to the remaster, but that was the impression I recalled).

Driving around Mario-themed worlds is intrinsically more enjoyable than Crash as an IP, but the degree of nuance in CTR is unrivaled in kart racers.

I haven’t played the remake of CTR but I did play the original back when it first came out. I thought it was alright but I preferred Mario Kart over it then and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is my favourite MK game so for me I would say that MK8 Deluxe is the better game.

Haven't played Crash Racing, but Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was way better.

Too bad Sega had to Sega and make it all about Sonic and his reject Pixar friends.

I haven't played Crash Bandicoot Team Racing but from what I've heard...MK8 Deluxe is still king.

Crash is always superior to Mario when it comes to platforming AND kart racing.

Nope. It's a decent racer, but should be 60 fps.

Haven't played it, but not being stable 60fps and not as precise in controls doesn't speak in its' favor.

Wait, it isn't 60 fps on any platform? Wtf? Why?

It’s a good kart racer but it can’t hold a candle to MK8.

Mario kart easily.

60fps

The stages feel better designed and memorable.

Characters are better than Crash characters who look goofy looking imo.

Several of the items in crash do the exact SAME thing. There is the the equivalent of a banana type item four times in the game. (TNT box, Green box, green potion, red potion) It's lazy!

I prefer CTR. It plays the exact same as the original which was all I needed from the remake.

Should have been 60fps, at least on PRO and X. The original was 30 fps right? I think that's their excuse.

MK8 is better imo, CTR has a harder single player experiance, but I only play these kart racers for the MP anyway.

Crash takes more skill and is an overall faster, more intense experience. MK8 is slower and kinda boring to play in comparison once you’ve been playing Crash consistently for awhile.

MK8 is more accessible and “pickup and play style” whereas Crash won’t let you win on items alone. It’s all about the drift boosting, reserves and USF.

No, for me it doesn't even get close. Mostly for one reason: Accessibility. I play MK8 a lot with people that never or only rarely play games and they can get into MK8 pretty fast. The Boost system ok CTR kills it for newcommers. Unless yoiu know how to gather boosts by drifting, you barely have a chance against CPUs.

@jcrame10:

Im not so sure. MK8 is without a doubt the game i play most at the moment and the use of the hop gets pretty tricky at times. I think most people once they settle on the 3 boost drift, think thats it. Its a very rhythmic game.

@heirren: the boosting in CTR makes the games more challenging. MK is definitely more newcomer friendly and pick up and play style which can be appealing

@jcrame10:

Theres more movement in Mario Kart. Lots of little left and rights which i think many players dont do. When you start seeing the more advanced players in mp you begin to see theres a bit more depth than you initially thought.

They're both really good racers, but not the same.

CTR is much more challenging and unforgiving than Mario Kart 8 is. CTR demands more racing skill from the player than just relying on item use. So the game feels more balanced (in my opinion) than MK8. But the game's challenge factor feels too high sometimes (even frustrating) and that's why MK8 is more enjoyable to most people; Anyone can pick it up right away and dial-in with the controls and mechanics quickly.

Between the two, I enjoy MK8 more, but CTR is not a bad game by any means. But you will have to put in more work than you'd probably expect with CTR.
