Hello friends,

So in 7th gen that was last last gen, it was dominate with FPS and like every genre. there were good and bad FPS although there were more bad ie COD clones. and people complain about too many FPS so much that in 8th gen we barely have few FPS. on other hand everyone experimenting open worlds and third person movie games. even so much that open world movie game RDR2 become most critically acclaim game of gen last gen.

there said, the movie games have wayy less gameplay than even average FPS let alone FPS that are masterpiece. although quality of FPS was there as Doom and Eternal were 2 of best games of last gen and define it, but quantity decline as we gotten 2 or 3 FPS each year.

Everythird person game wanna be tomb raider and uncharted nowadays and every open world game wannabe assassins creed. we have too many movie games and less FPS.

what you think friends, Do we need more FPS? less third person movie games? lets discuss

We had a lot of FPS games, what do you mean? Prey, Dishonored 2, Doom, Battlefields, Alyx, Black Mesa, Ghostrunner, Shadow Warrior, and a whole lot more.

What we need is maybe innovation. Ghostrunner imo kinda fills that innovation thing for me right now.

9-2.

Anyway, no thanks. Some games just work better in third person. Better positional awareness. Better situational reading. Plus, you get to see your character customizations.

And again, I continue to be baffled by the nebulously and arbitrarily defined term that is "movie games."

Agreed. We need more FPS as in frames per second. Exit 30 and bring 60+.

RDR2 might have lots of cinematic cutscenes but it is a lot of gameplay as well. Plus except when I am on horseback I play it as an FPS as it has a first person option. As an FPS though, I would liked to see FPS mode us more iron sights aiming than off center view they use.

I wouldn't mind more singleplayer FPS.

Every FPS now is online and battle royale.

I love the open world fps genre like farcry etc. so would definitely like to see more of those. However the more traditional fps shooter like doom etc haven’t involved in 10-15 years at all. Unless of course you count the horrible ammo/Health/armor juggling and just as horrible qte kills that doom introduced and as good as those games are, I doubt anyone liked those parts of the gameplay much! So yeah if you want me to feel the urge to play those more than 1-2 times a year, some serious innovation is needed!

Third-person shooters have far more potential for awesome movement, melee and interactivity. That potential is just not being scratched because everyone buys the mediocre stuff over and over. Even when a third-person shooter comes up with some neat ideas, it's hurt by the mainstream checkboxes, like Control having a transforming gun that only lets you toggle between two weapon modes instead of the whole number row. First-person shooters are too limited and robotic. Only being able to look in the direction that you're running sucks.

you answer your own question. most third person game suck. reason is they are immersion killer. FPS means immersion. RE become better when they gone first person for example.

in third person you can see anything behind your back.

Speak for yourself. I've been enjoying the third person action/adventure games. It's a main reason why I continue to buy a Playstation.

If you don't like what they offer... game somewhere else.

Considering how "Doom Eternal" faded so quickly, I'd imagine we're likely to get even fewer first-person shooters. Publishes want to sell games, and outside of Call of Duty, that's not something FPS is really doing.

Still around and getting awards, more so than Alyx.

But, these awards are dictated by pink hair Polygon people who should be treated with 100% ill contempt.

Probably didn't play on Nightmare twice like Ghost.

See, I've somehow managed to go this entire gen playing third person games and open world games that are not that.

Can't just put extreme limitations on the games you play, then complain that games are limited lol.

If you want a near endless supply of fps games, get a decent PC. There's everything from modern day realistic (squad, insurgency), to proper WW2 (hell let loose, post scriptum) and WW1 shooters. You've also got the usual console shooters on top of that.

I think many of the games you consider “movie games” are in reality solid games, with very good gameplay. I think the ps3 gen had more of very straightforward movie games.

Gaming is good atm

@ghosts4ever: Hmmm i don't know who that guy may be, but i already respect him lol

Modern community think it's cool to hate everything, but it doesn't change the fact that gaming is indeed in excelent shape. The amount of options we have these days is insane! Unfortunatly too many people believes that greedy companies like Ubisoft, Activision or EA are all we have, but ignoring 99% of what's available is entirely their fault.

Ghost only enjoys casual shooters, like Doom. He'd be running scared from a game like Post Scriptum or Squad.
