I'm kinda hoping Nintendo sticks with NX as the final name.

I know this isn't very likely, but Nintendo NX just sounds so damn cool. Its simple, yet has that mysterious edge to it,

It just sounds like a console people can take more seriously than the Wii branding.

I think given Nintendo's history though you can make a safe bet they'll change the name. Wii U was "Project Cafe", Wii "Revolution", GameCube "Project Dolphin", N64 "Project Reality"... safe bet that NX won't be its final name.

I agree, it's a very cool name. Unfortunately, Nintendo always has very cool codenames for their consoles - Project Reality, Dolphin, Revolution, Project Cafe - that they are always only too happy to discard for some more asinine final name, so I'm not holding out much hope that they actually do call the NX, NX.

Those are cool code names, but they're either silly or pretentious (revolution) names for their final products.

But there's no good reason NX couldn't be the final name, it's simple enough. Though I wonder if they'll want the X part of that name because of Japan, as X kinda means *do not want* over there.

I hope so too. If I recall correctly, 3DS was not supposed to be the Nintendo 3DS's final name yet they went with it as it was received positively when it was unveiled.

They will probably keep X in the name, people like X's in naming of things.

The true name will be Nextendo.

They should definitely make sure that Nintendo is included in the name. They have a strong history and they should make sure consumers know this is their product. I know a good number of casual gamers that had know idea Wii and Wii U are Nintendo consoles and are therefore the only place you could find those franchises they used to love.

@ten_pints They definitely should keep the X. In Japan, they refer to it as "cross" which fits if this system is a handheld/console hybrid.

We have the Wii. We have the Wii U. The next logical step would be the Wii Beg U.

I'm hoping they keep the NX name too. Everyone is already used to it, it's easily identified as a new Nintendo console and no one has to get past a ridiculous name while early perceptions about the console are formed.

The NX name leaves a very good first impression. Nintendo would be very wise to keep the name, but I'm willing to bet they probably won't.

And the Wii should have stayed the Revolution.

I'll agree with everyone else in this thread, Nintendo NX does sound better in the long run and better then what MS calls it, Xbox One. [Xbox One name is hardly better then Wii U]

They might not keep it, so i think we should hope they don't stick "Wii" in it.

Yes, I like the name NX and am much more worried about what they will call it than whether or not it will be a complete piece of junk like Wii U.

On SW we worry about all the right things. That's just how we roll.

I want it to be just named Nintendo. Or Nintendo multimedia system, gaming or even a nod to the past as entertainment system or something like that. Keep it simple but with a respectable name. NX means as much as XR or GT, just not a very good name for a gaming system.

It would have worked out great if Nintendo NX were the 10th videogame machine released. The Nintendo NX, X standing for "Ten"

NES, SNES, N64, NGC, Wii, Wii U, GB, GBA, DS, 3DS. If the Nintendo NX is going to be a Hybrid home console/portable system and if these were the only Nintendo systems, But by leaving out, Color TV game,6/15, Game and Watch series, Gameboy color, Game Boy Micro, DS XL,DSi/DSi XL, 3DS XL, NEW 3DS/NEW 3DS XL/2DS, and Virtual boy. It is not likely the X is "10"

Nintendo NX is just the code name. I hope that Nintendo just gets their 7th Home Console right this time. Project reality, Dolphin, Revolution, Project Café were the previous codenames for consoles. So NX will be changed at E3 2016.

It would be a good name but, like what others have said historically, Nintendo doesn't use their codenames as the final name. It's definitely better than Wii U.

I dont even know why they are even wasting their time making another home console, just stick to making great handhelds and a VITA TV like system if they really want to have a home console presence.

I really dont care if ND dies or not, but the concept of a PS TV is a pretty great concept. Sure like typical SONY they didnt push it pf support it, but for some one in the position of Nintendo this could be an great new way to fight that horrible home console run they have been on.

Nintendo cant compete with M$ and Sony on home consoles traditionally. Nintendo can just put out a PS TV like device that has the library of older system's games, is compatible with DS and other handhelds Nintedo come out with in the future and gets exclusive next gen Mario's, Zelda's, Smash, Mario Kart, and whatever. All in a small device PS TV like format that is all digital. That it is inexpensive and future proof (by that I mean it will actually last more than a year or two). They can easily get multiplats that way too.

You cant tell me thats not a fucking great plan and a device worth getting if they did it. Hell I dont really care about Nintendo games at all, but it would be way easier to have a $200 device that I can easily access a large library. Its a good way to capture people like me that get turned off by the thought of having to buy a floppage Nintendo system and games for it when It will die in two years.
