i think it will because if sony is beating MS in worldwide sales for the last 2 years and its double price.its going to have a major impact to those who are buying for bluray or gaming.300$ is only 50 more than the wii,it would certainly help the general consumer.i mean at how much 360 is selling since they dropped their price. also no arguing about wich console u think is best and why the other 1 suks because no1 cares please keep it intelligent.try 2 be as unbias as possible i mean either way the wii is killing both.

Games sell systems. And there won't be too many games on the PS3 that won't be on the 360 for at least $100 less.
remember the huge sony info blowout from the guy that went 2 the sony conference and leaked all the info on price cuts and GOW3,well if he was telling the truth we will know on the VGA's on the 14th because if the GOW3 trailer is how he described then he was also tellin the truth about price cuts.

I doubt it. Something like that won't go unanswered for long. Besides, even if the PS3 does slightly overtake the 360 by the end of the generation, the tremendous loss of Sony's mind and marketshare compared ot MS's substantial gain would make this generation an astounding success for MS and notable loss for Sony.
If the Wii can be the second most expensive console in the race and still overtake both 360 and PS3, then I think there's a decent chance that the PS3 can beat the 360 if they lower the price tag to $300. However, I guarantee nothing.

LOL...because people would just ignore the $199 360 from that point on, right? The $200 price point has always been the sweet spot for consoles...and the 360 will be at that price point when and if the PS3s price is lowered.

By the time PS3 has a price drop, im sure that the Xbox would have a 10 million lead, its lead is already at 6-7 million. This economic down turn is here to stay for a while and 300$ purchase is still a lot when people are trying to conserve their money. In which time im sure MS would eventually further drop the price of XBOX in preparation for the next generation.
MS have a great strategy, come out early and when the competitors are gaining momentum, price drop (which is very effective in a recession!). Im sure they will keep this as their strategy, its working thus far. MS is the worst nightmare for the PS3.
This really depends on when it dropped to $300. If Sony dropped the price tomorrow, I think 2nd place would be a safe bet. But since it's more likely to happen in March, the PS3 would probably take 2nd place towards the end of the generation.
Well, the PS3 will get a price drop surge that's a given. If Sony can maintain it's stellar lineup for 2009, then it should sell it a good pace. But then, who knows what Microsoft will do. Sony could drop the 80GB to 300 and MS can respong by droping the Pro to $250 and Elite to $350.
i'd love to see the TC take a look at the math. we already proved it would be nearly impossible for the PS3 to catch up, even with a price cut. the 360 would basically have to stop selling altogether :)
at this point its 200 or nil, so no 299 wont give them what they need to grab second........unless they get a lot more great exclusives then the 360 in short order
i say no. the playstation era has changed. i talk to people who were loyal to the playstation brand back in the ps2 era, and i see that they for some reason now believe that the xbox 360 is the new it. they believe the xbox 360 is what the ps1 was to the snes. its basically a new hardware that has many support, so theres no way to go but up with it.
A price drop for the ps3 still wouldnt make much of a different, but then people might get caught in by the whole blu ray gimmick.

Agreed. I enjoy watching cows squirm as they figure out how to deal with the PS brand no longer being the industry leader.
Amd besides, if Sony dropped the PS3 price to $300, then COMMON SENSE says that MS would respond with an Xbox360 price cut of their own.
you guys should seriously try to do the math - it's now impossible for Sony to catch up before 2010/2011 when the next consoles are due. sorry mate, we did this in a thread a while back :D
Sony already loses money on each PS3, so, it's very unlikely for that to happen. It would obvioulsy do better than it is now but what would be stopping Microsoft to chopping off yet another $100 off the 360?

Why does it need NEW big titles, it still has a lot of mutiplats and a HUGE catalog of top notch games. When people actually stop buying the PS2 hardware is when its life cycle is offically over........it's not over just beause God Of War 3 is PS3 and not on PS2.

Now as far as saying it's impossible for the PS3 to take over the 360........you do realize the PS3 is still the most EXPENSIVE console ever even at being 2 years old? No console outside of the 3DO (I owned one) launched at this high of cost ($399). To say that a price drop of another $100 wouldn't just completely overtake X360 in the matter of a year is foolish. X360 has NOWHERE to drop at this point. Sony was outselling MS being nearly twice as expensive. You don't have to be a "mathamagician" to understand when the PS3 is $299 or below, X360 is going to be in 3rd place.
