If Nintendo updates Xenoblade Chronicles X for Switch, will it rain on FF15's parade?

The probability of Nintendo bringing Xenoblade Chronicles X to Switch is very high. The game never really got that much attention on Wii U, and it's just a no brainer to bring it to the Switch with updated visuals. The Switch will need some JRPG goodness, after all. Which then begs the question, SW. Will this updated version give the game the recognition it deserves, and possibly, overtake FF15 as best JRPG at the moment? That's of course, until Ni No Kuni 2 comes out. But anyway - your thoughts, SW?

I would love If they brought XC to the Switch. I love the Wii U version a ton but the performance enhancements the Switch could bring is awesome. Mainly frame rate and texture pop in.

No it won't, Final Fantasy is more popular and Persona 5 will be coming out next year anyway. Plus, Final Fantasy just released so Xenoblade is not really in competition.

I was just looking at a video comparing the two games. My god is the WiiU behind or wut. Graphics, animations, draw distance, monsters, combat fluidity etc is so god awful compared to FF15. Really is not exaggeration when someone says that a WiiU is a whole generation behind their competition.

Even if XC was an amazing game and FFXV was complete shit, no it wouldn't make a difference.

Xbcx SUCKS and is a shadow of its predecessor, it wouldn't have any bearing on FF15..

Its gonna be ported to Switch (if the latest rumour was true) ..I doubt Nintendo will give it any visual upgrades though ( hope they do but really doubt it)...load times should be even less or gone altogether though if port to Switch. They really need to finish the damn story!!!! either via DLC or expansion or sequel. :P

Doubt it will rain on FF15 parade...its good but not great (imo) their previous one on Wii was better. :P

Personally, I can't say I have much interest in a XCX port, unless they add some substancial new content to a switch version, and you know, have some feature that allows you to somehow transfer your Wii U XCX save data to the NX version so I don't have to make up for the massive amount of time I put into XCX...

It's hard to compare the two, because I think they are both so different in many significant ways. Generally speaking I'd say that I would prefer the developers to work on the next Xenoblade game rather than doing a port of the existing Wii U version.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was awesome, but was held back by a few weird design choices. A sequel could address a lot of that and be really worth playing. Here's hoping.

The funny part here is that the visuals can't actually be updated much on the Switch, it's that weak. Sorry Sheep your going from 350 gflops to maybe 550 in the Switch, and guess what you get with that miniscule upgrade, maybe better AA and a couple more fps.

its already a better game than FF15 (system wars rules ditcates that i dont have to play FF15 to make that claim :P).

i dont think they could upgrade it that much though. loading times and texture pop in would be the major things that would be improved. visually there wouldnt be a huge leap (going by rumours anyway).

Load times on Xenoblade is already excellent. Their is only loading when fast traveling or when a cut scene is triggered during the story mode. The overworld is seamless, you can walk or fly to any of the continents and there won't be any load times.

Come on, FFXV wasn't that bad!

Sorry, but Xenoblade Chronicles X doesnt need to over take FF15. 15 is nowhere close to its level. Same reason Xenoblade Chronicles didnt need to over take the previous JRPG games, none were close to its greatness. Xenoblade is life. Its like trying to compare Zelda to some scrub game. Its a waste of breath.

We need a port though so more can enjoy the game before a new one releases.

I think the game would have to be known first in order for that to happen. Everyone knows what Final Fantasy is.

@p3anut: true but there is a lot of pop in (really bad if you dont use the extra texture packs with the disc version.). its especially noticable in NLA.

putting the game on a cart and optimise the memory management for the new hardware and it should solve that problem.

Currently loving the hell out of XenoX. Does so much of what FFXV does and better, real shame it's not getting half the recognition it deserves.

Also it has skells....FFXV ain't got no skells.

Its got more coming then just graphical gimmicks. Which will be awesome, Splatoon is one of the best games this gen.

It's Dragon Quest XI that's going to show us what's what. At least that's where I'd put my money. Also I HATE AI controlled party members.

Splatoon had plenty of content even on day one. Its single player campaign was amazing and jammed packed. The only question was did it have enough to keep player playing for years. Well clearly that answer was yes.

I forgot just how amazing the single player was, I cried when DJ Octavio got all that character development. So deep.

Also, Splatoon is pretty much dead, so it hasnt even been years yet

@aigis: You must not play, Splatoon is very much alive. And yes, DJ Octavio is not only one of the greatest boss fights ever in the history of gaming, he has very deep lore if one wishes to explore.

Did Xenoblade X steal any thunder from other RPGs on the 3DS? DOn't think so - and that was a great game. I think FF is like the CoD of RPGs, while Xenoblade is like the Dishonored of RPGs.

Outside of SW and gaf, no one even knows about Xeno. The game looks way too much of a generic mmo to be noticed by the masses.

Nah, XCX and FFXV are two completely different JRPG experiences, though I'll admit that I'm a huge "Xeno" fan across all platforms it's games have graced.

Despite its shortcomings, X was a really good game on its own merit. The scope of the game was so large that story development suffered heavily as a result. That said, the game really hurts for a direct sequel, MUCH more so than the original Xenoblade. With the Wii U's comparatively limited market penetration, it would make sense to port X to the Switch and then also put the XCX2 sequel on it as well.

A similar argument could be made for a port of the original Xenoblade, given that a direct sequel is in development for the Switch. However, already having a New 3ds port may mitigate the need for a third console release unless an HD enhanced version were in order.

Regardless, I'd prefer Monolith and Nintendo focus on moving forward with new projects instead of tying up resources on old game ports. I'd rather they outsource the porting and limit their own involvement to QC. Hopefully, they'll continue to show us Xeno fans the love.
