I can't ignore them. I feel like I need to get them all and while I get some enjoyment out of them, grinding 300 hours in games like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on PS3 is just not worth it. I'm thinking about starting a new profile and disabling notifications and pretending that they don't exist. Has anyone else dealt with this and have any tips? I'm put off starting games such as Warframe because of them arghhhh I hate this.

They're meaningless dude... who gives a sh*t how many trophies or achievements people have?! It means nothing. Just forget about them and enjoy the game for what it is :)

It's a love hate thing. The ps4 would be stronger than it is now if the 360s non gaming aspects didn't impact the gaming industry so much last gen.

Dev's would have actually learned to use the cell as well. Now a console not bombarded with social features wuddnt appeal to the neccessary masses

I have a similar kind of addiction but I don't go for platinum for every game that I play. I just platinum games that I really really like.

I love trophies.

I actually get mad at old games for not having them. Sometimes I even refuse to play old games because of that.

I sold most of my PS2 games and bought them on PS3/PS4 so I could get trophies along with the updated visuals of course.

Just turn the notifications for them off. I love Achievements/Trophies myself as I feel they add an extra layer to a game for me but I never feel like I have to get them all.

Exactly.

I only care if i actually liked a game and am willing to replay it. It's like any other 100% really. Even before the era of PSN/Xbox Live/Steam achievements there were games I went for 100% just because I actually liked the game and getting that 100% was something that was fun for me to go for in a replay situation. If a game is no good I could care less about 100% - so the trophies are not even a concern, usually I'll force myself to finish the main story once I've started any game but that's as far as I'll go.

The only dumb thing I feel like achievements cause me to do is when there is a "missable" achievent in a game that I am only committed to playing once, I'll want to know about that in advance so I don't have to replay the game again just for one stupid achievement. Because of this usually I'll check a guide to see if there are missable achievements, in a few games I do feel like doing that ruins the experience a bit. One the one hand it's on me for caring about it even in the slightest. On the other hand, "missable" achievements are stupid.

Trophies themselves are not a big deal, but the gaming resume where your PSN account logs all the games you have actually played is nice. Its how Coolyfett accepts friend request. Checking peoples ranking and adding people with legit gamer records. Nintendo could do this with their MyNintendo system, they already have the feature for their mobile apps.

I always have a few criteria on the achievements

  1. I really like this game
  2. Only single-player achievements are involved
  3. I can get them in easily even with difficulty adjusted

It's a bad habit to get into. Luckily it never bothered me but one of my buddies is pretty set on the idea of obtaining every trophy.

It's a tough gig. Used to be addicted but the amount of time I spent following walkthroughs for one or two collectables, that weren't tracked by the game in any way so sometimes I basically went through the whole game again just to find them, eventually wore me down.

Now I don't usually look at the trophy list until a few start popping, and even then it's just quick glance. No more collectable hunts for me, if a guide is needed, then I don't even bother.

I've never bothered about trophies, and haven't got a platinum thingy for any Playstation game.

I have got 100% of the achievements for quite a few PC games, but usually only when the game's achievements are either easily awarded, tied to unlocks (like The Binding of Isaac), or are awarded for really interesting playstyles/challenges (like that gnome in HL2).

Beyond that...I don't see the point of wasting 20 hours in a game collecting 200 feathers for an achievement. If it feels like tedious busywork (and many trophies are), I won't bother.

I actually really enjoyed achievements on the 360. I would kind of like it if Nintendo made their own achievements system for the Switch. But I think it isn't something that you should want to do for every game, just the ones you really enjoy and that have especially fun achievements to obtain.

I've decided to ignore them unless I enjoy a game enough to get them. Like someone else mentioned, I hate missable trophies in long games like RDR2, Witcher 3 and Skyrim as it's bullshit. I also feel less motivated to 100% games nowadays unless I'm going for 100% trophies so in a way trophies/achievements have ruined gaming for me. I'd rather finish the RDR2 story for example then move on to a different game whereas 15 years ago I'd probably 100% it for the fun/challenge of it.

The irony in these post hates the idea of Achievements/Trophies is astounding! I love getting them as much as I can when it involves single player only but screw that MP Achievements/Trophies cause that's borderline stupid! Now then, do not take them seriously, they are just their to add more fun to the game should you do multiple replays and you have the options to turn it off.

LOL. I'm defintely not surprised this is coming from you.

If a game needs trophies to be fun, the game sucks. Disable them, TC. You wouldn't want to end up like the guy I'm quoting, right?

I hate achievements/trophies. I would much rather have a running total of gameplay stats, like number of enemies killed, amount of ammo expended, headshot percentage, etc.

I heard some people pay up to 500$ a game for someone to plat the game for them.

I know the highest account on trophies offers this service.

I like trophies to some degree. It is nice to get them randomally with the "Ting!" sound when you achieve one. But I don't get out of my way to get them. If I can get them easiely and they are fun, why not.

I can relate. They're very effective at a form of conditioning. Their's a certain satisfaction that comes from the trophy pop-up. Pavlov, anyone?

I really liked achievements on the Xbox 360, but MS ruined them on the Xbone when you earned them for turning on your console and logging into Netflix or whatever.

They're useful to prove someone played a certain game. You can tell many people here havent played a game they bash so, at least, trophies are useful for that. How many people here bash PS exclusives (mainly PC fanboys) and then they cant post prove they have a PSN account with trophies attached to the games they bash. They're useful for that alone.

My favourite trophies are ones I unintentionally get.
