I'm tired of always being the good guy in games...

Why not have a game where you're the terrorists and you get to do some crazy **** like blow up the WTC....or do other terror related activities?

I'm tired of being the US Marine killing terrorists, I want to be the bad guys killing the marines...is that too much to ask for?

Just like with WW2 games, playing as the Nazi's would be highly controversial and I'm pretty sure that's the main reason they don't make games like that.

Although I wouldn't mind a few myself.

I think it'd be a nice change for once...play as the losing side...they could really make a good story of some kid who's fighting with the Nazi's but doesn't want to, and sees all his comrades get killed, like idk they could make a good story i think.

there's a reason why your enemies in games are either entirely fictional or are/made to represent enemies of the countries that most of these games are purchased in.

Many games allow you to be bad; Fable you can become evil and there are plenty of others. But I'm sure you know that so are you talking about like the full game? Maybe a Star Wars: Republic Commando 2 where you go off and execute Order 66?

I think it would be cool to pull a "Dark Knight."
In the movie "The Dark Knight," Batman must turn against the SWAT team to save the hostages. From there, the events lead to him being the ones the cops are going to be chasing.
I think it would be cool to do that due to story reasons instead of just choice.

Oh yeah easily. I think they could pull it off quite well even given the example you listed. However you'll have soccer moms and news reporters oblivious to the concept who will just harp on the kid being a Nazi and then make a big deal out of it. It's pathetic that we still can't have freedom of expression in our media.

yeah, i guess your character can't exactly escape from that situation, unless they had it like in CoD 4 where the guy doesn't survive.

I thought that it would be good in R6V if you could take over the Las Vegas strip with the other hundreds of goons... Shoot through, kill swat, loot the vaults.

Sounds fun to begin with.

Yes but in all these games your doing stuff for yourself, I want a full-scale war game where you're the bad guys.

I guess RTS's do an ok job, but you don't get the story.

It sucks how movies about 9/11 like World Trade Center are praised, while there would be outright condemnation for a videogame that showed it being hit let alone had you be a catalyst of it.

Blowing up the WTC? You want to murder civilians en masse? :|Ninja-Hippo

It's a legitimate question of an artist. Video games are art, so why can we not simulate the darker side of the equation? Typically because stores would boycott it, and it would be a financial disaster - but if we say we're for freedom of speech, then we have to allow it, even for things that are offensive.

-

That's not to say I would want a 9-11 game, frankly I think it would be exploitive of the situation, but it does bring up an interesting point, where is the dark side to gaming content? Where is the WW2 game depicting the struggle of Nazi youth? It seems in fanatasy situations (Force Unleashed) we're comfortable with being "dark side", but in real world situations it hits too close to home.

I should become a terrorist just so i can play the bad guys as in video games.

Also there is the insurgency mod for source engine that is marines vs terrorists and its very realistic. Sortta feels weird when you kill a marine because it seems a little real.

Yeah, but you're not directly doing the shooting, just the commanding. For some reason things get more tense with FPS or TPS-like gameplay, especially when the ideals of the Nazi party are involved (in other words any semblance of a backstory, not like the online fragfests of CoD1-3 for example). I'm not sure why it's like that, but it may be due to people perceiving themselves as being in the main character's shoes, while with an RTS you usually assume the role of a commander.

The world isn't that black & white - it's idiotic to divide the world into "freedom fighters" and "terrorists". Frankly, that's why someone should have the guts to do a WW2 game depicting the struggle of German youth. What's it like to live with that sort of nationalism, that sort of propaganda and pride? What was it like conquering countries, fighting the allies, and watching the war machine? What of the technological revolutions we still owe Germany for, from the Nazi era?

WW2 was a horrific time, we made incredible gains in psychology, psychiatry, physiology, physics at the cost of human life and the very humanity we attest for fight for - it's such a common game, and theme because the Nazi regime was committing attrocities that were so obviously evil - and perhaps why it's so rare to tell the story from the other side.

We have "evil" in gaming but it's most fantasy evil - it's rarely the nitty-gritty real life sort of evil. The sort of "Walmart converts 10,000 full-time employees to part-time employees" grey area evil of the real world. That stuff happens and no one blinks and eye - so maybe there should be a game that makes that sort of evil more apparent - instead of the over-the-top violence and fantasy "muahaha Satan is eating puppies" evil, why not have a game that showcases the subtle evils, the ill-defined choices of the real world?

But starcraft is fake and not going to stir up controversy and a RTS when you can always almost be evil. I would mind being the Nazis in a campaign mode on a FPS not just online

Actually, the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings WERE for the sake of the fear. We had to scare the Japanese into surrendering so a fullblown invasion of Japan could be avoided. So, one could say the bombings occured to save lives, both American and Japanese, which the WTC bombings cannot claim.
