It seems to be the common belief that Nintendo just 'gets' handheld gaming alot more than console gaming. Would you be alright with them pulling out of the console race and focusing all of their resources on the 3DS?

Keep in mind this is directed at those who actually care about their first party franchises. They would still live on ofcourse, but just on handhelds

*and no I don't mean them going third party and developing games on the ps4/720, I mean them focusing on the 3ds and that's it*

you say lol but the 3ds probably has the most killer exclusive lineup this year. It would only get even better if they focused only on that

Not me. I like their consoles more than any handheld. It is just that I liked the past 2 gens other consoles more than Nintendo ones.

Nintendo needs to get back to what made them great in the first place. Stop releasing gimmicky consoles and create worthwhile games that can appeal to both the hardcore and the casuals. Casual gamers are too fickle to base your entire business on, Microsoft will soon learn this if they try to push kinect with the Nextbox. Right now tablets and smartphones has engrossed most of casual gamers and I'm not sure if having a standalone gaming device as the center product will help them in the future years to come.

actually no, nintendo has said time and time again that the day they're forced to go third party is the day they stop making games altogether. It means that the 3ds would be the only platform to get those games on.

I wouldn't. They may sell better than the consoles, but I doubt they would survive on just that. Besides, the console market would be INCREDIBLY boring without them.

Going by your OP no.

If we could get their usual console offerings on other platforms, I'd be all over it.

Hard to imagine their usual first-party console offerings downgraded for the 3DS.

No. There are some things that handhelds can do but due to battery, heat, and size limitations so they are limited as to what kind of games work on them. I couldn't imagine how dead rising would be on 3ds, there would probably be a handful of zombies here and there lol.

It was also released as a 3DS Ambassador game, so you should actually have it :P But yes, recent handheld Zelda games certainly took a nosedive. Hopefully the 3DS one gets it back on track. And yeah... although Monolith Soft is working on something else for the 3DS.

I think they would put it on the Wii U VC.

I'm sure Nintendo would stay exclusive to handhelds when that niche is beginning to be bitten bit by bit by smartphones and tablets. If you would like Nintendo be Sega, be my guest. Mind you, last I've heard Sega is going through financial struggles.

I would be very dissappointed.  The Zelda and Metroid games need to have the full home platform treatment.  Minish Cap was one of the better handheld zeldas, but still fall short to the console games.

I would be perfectly content to buy a Nintendo Console just for 1 or 2 of these games a generation.  Anything after that is just a bonus.  For instance, I (like many other nin fans) am waiting for Wind Waker to drop to make my WiiU buy.  Then boom... Monster Hunter and ZombiiU Bonus

Not at all. In fact, I think Nintendo needs to make a wildly overpowered console that gives us Mario, Zelda and Metroid in glorious HD, so that the power and graphics lovers can drool and have their Nintendo too.

Nintendo's been irrevelant for 90% of 25+ year old gamers for a while now. The Wii was a flash in a pan, and it looks like the Wii-U is going to crash and burn hard. Even my little cousins that are under 10 have sworn off Nintendo for MS/Sony.

Ninty needs to take there queue from Sega and bow out, becoming a third party developer for the big dogs MS and Sony. I personally would love to play a Mario/Zelda on my PS4.

Sony NEVER bowed out of the hardware business. Would we be seeing that PS4 announcement if they did? I won't even get started on Ninty's inevitable quality (and relevancy) dip when they do go third party.

If Nintendo did follow the philosophy of the beginning of the Wii's lifecycle, they wouldn't be in this mess. Instead they went to follow the Gamecubes Philosophy and look what's happening to them.

Sean Malstrom was right again that Nintendo would stumble on the Wii U beginning of launch.

Zelda and Metroid on handheld?

aroxx_ab

Zelda and Metroid have been on handhelds for years, and those entries have been pretty good.  The 3DS could easily run a Zelda that's on the level of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess and the Metroid Prime games would easily work on it as well.

Really, what's the problem?   Both Metroid and Zelda have been on handhelds since the Game Boy.   Its not like this is some unproven thing or their gameplay would be difficult to translate to handhelds.  Zelda and Metroid's  gameplay have been proven to work well on portable systems.

wait what ,  nintendo was still profitable with the gamecube for christ sake ,   the wiiu will be no different  just takes time   once the big games come  the sales pick up its that simple 3ds went through this , in fact it was this time last year that you people created dozens of doom threads proving to be just failed predictions and like the 3ds  the wiiu will prevail it may not be the most sold but it should provide nintendo the profit it needs,   they are already developing future platforms ,

thats another sign of this not happening ,  if anything they may just make a hybrid ,     and combine,  they ll never be in trouble if they do that ,  theyll still focus on handheld type games along with console but theyll do it on one platform ,   instead of two

i wouldn't. certain things just work better on big screens, and nintendo consoles are the only consoles i still bother buying (since the others are just gimped PCs)
