it's still a crap fps, it's like taking 300 steps back from duke nukem 3d...only thing was better graphics everything about gameplay was inferior

play duke nukem 3d if you havent gameplay is much much much superior lightyears ahead.

The drop in 0.7 points (which is quite large) is mostly due to the different competition the PC version experienced compared to the Xbox.

The lack of co-op and high requirements also did some damage. It certainly isn't crap though.

Cause PC gamers are angry that consoles have a good FPS.  So they needlessly bash it as a bad game.

Partly, I think it got a 9.0, becuase it was a Halo game. but it wasnt a bad game, I played the demo, was fun online once people managed to get the demo modded.

Which don't make sense, since PC gamers are getting/have them. Honestly. Maybe it's crap by PC standards, because there are a lot of better PC FPS available, and Gearbox did a poor port job.

so heres my guess
by pc standards, theres games with good online and tons of mods already out.. and then theres halo
would you rather buy a game with crap online and crap mods just because ITS HALO DUDE.. or would you rather buy something with an engine designed for mods and you know.. online
why did it score aaa... who knows, especially since the best thing about halo was co op...

I don't know...nobody really knows. To me Halo felt lackluster in single player, and the tempo of the game was horridous. Maybe they thought if we give Halo for the xbox such a high-rating than a better Halo for the PC should be in its range of score but I don't know.

Maybe this is one of the times we should ignore GameSpot scores and look at a broader picture, ie Gamerankings, to see Halo PC was received at an average of 86%.

I do think thats it, I hated the singleplayer. But I liked the Multiplayer somewhat. I think that considering that Gamerankings put it up as a n 8.6, that it was overscored on the PC.

PC standarts? Well, they are under zero lately. If you didn't play PC shooters 2004-2006, you don't know what does it mean "crap".

Halo, Max Pain 2, COD, Half Life 2 -  that I only finished since PC Halo was released.

Jealously really doesn't work as a motive if they have access to it. Maybe we just have to accept, Hermits felt that when Halo was released on PC in 2003, it didn't scrub up to other PC FPS.

So all I'm getting is there is a change in the speed of the game, is that the only difference between console and PC FPS games? If so, you guys' so called standards are laughable. Speed change =/= instant higher/lower standards.

that's not the most sensible post. It actually makes the least sense. Why would we be angry that consoles have a good fps if we have it too?

Anyway, the reason that it scored so well is because gs has bad reviews every once in a while. look at tony hawk's pro skater 3 for example, nowhere near as good as 2 or 4, yet it gets a perfect score. Mario kart 64 scored like crap. Most people who have played pc games know that halo cannot compare to other pc games. There's nothing special about it, besides the shield system, there wasn't anything in the game that hadn't been done before. So who knows, maybe the reviewer was a huge halo fanboy, or maybe he just really liked it, but look at ign's score 8.2. Look at pc gamer's score, 85. The point i'm trying to make, is that gamespot's reviewing system doesn't mean everything, even though it's the rules of sw.

Halo is not a bad game, but compared to the countless aaa fps shooters on the pc, halo just isn't as good.

Not only is this[Halo: Combat Evolved] easily the best of the Xbox launch games, but it's easily one of the best shooters ever, on any platform. ^^^^That is all I care about, Halo is a console game and that phrase sums it up perfectly.

You are really dumb :D

I gave up PC gaming I suppose because "so much AAA" on PC last years, so much, that I have nothing to play for year.

Sad again that we had 4 AAAE exclusives last year, while you had 1.... Yeah that sucks doesnt it.

I own a copy of Halo for PC and the whole feel of the game failed to draw me into the action. Things like aiming are too easy and never feel challenging, the weapons feel lame and the huge rectile on the assault rifle is wrong.

Despite the lauded AI most of the enemies seem to stand there, they do move/flank/retreat, but because shooting is so easy I never really cared. The whole game lacked challenge and was to easy.

Not only that but the whole health and rechargable shield concept was lame,  since low health simply forces you to hide more and in the end acts more as a hinderance since you don't really assault with no shield.

In the end killing things wasn't fun and the level design was anything but memorable, despite the changes to the scenery the majority of the battles felt the same.

Ok, that could make sense. I don't know though, I still liked it on PC. The only real difference was the speed of the game, that was basically it.

Because PC gamers tend to be elitists. I know I'm generalizing here and I'm sure there are some completely rational PC gamers here, but there are a ton that as far as I can tell, think that consoles are casual trash that can't compete with a PC by any standard. In this thread you have poeple calling Halo on the PC a bad port, and it only scored 0.2 less than Half Life 2. Does that mean that a good port of Halo would have scored as high or higher? Just because someone isn't using a keyboard and mouse a game can't be as good?

Look at a game like the Sims, the best selling PC game of all time, which I think most rational people would call a good, fun game. Yet bring it up with a PC gamer and suddenly its casual trash ruining PC gaming. Its a fun game that does exactly what it was supposed to do. PC gamers need to accept it, just because it's popular doesn't mean it's a bad game. Again I'm generalizing but still, there are a ton of posters on these forums who act exactly like that.

You have some valid opinions. I must say though that if the game was easy or if the enemies had brain disease then you weren't playing on the right difficulty. Also many games use that shield concept, it's hardly something you can hold against one game, andbesides, it blended heath along into it. The rest of that is all pretty much opinion so I won't challenge it.

[QUOTE="Spartan070"][QUOTE="smokeydabear076"][QUOTE="Spartan070"] Then why did it almost score what HL2 did?smokeydabear076
Why did Serious Sam get one point less than Halo?

I liked Serious Sam.:| It was hilarious, it's a niche FPS.

Why did Serious Sam the Second encounter score a 9.1, 1 point higher than Halo PC and 1 point less than Half life 2?

I'll repeat, I liked it. I personally can't speak for the reviewers. It was fun and enjoyable, to me that's all it takes.

The controls in Halo PC were just utterly terrible, not to mention the graphics were pretty awful unless you have a decent machine, then again the textures and overall quality in the console version suck just as bad as the PC one. Gameplay overall was pretty crappy and slow though, methinks it was more solid on the Xbox.
