X360 has absolutely squandered its 1-YR lead. I don't know how on Earth the PS3 has outsold the X360 going from the same launch-to-date time frames.

  • X360 launched in NA in Nov. of 2005.
  • X360 Launched Europe and Japan in December of 2005.
  • X360 Launched in Argentina and Mexico on February 2nd, 2006.
  • X360 launched in South Korea on February 24th, 2006.

  • PS3 launched in Japan and NA in Nov of 2006.

Can anyone explain how the PS3 has out paced the X360? PS3 being in 4 less territores. PS3 being more expensive.  PS3 having competition on TWO fronts, where the X360 had absolutely no next-gen competition. And PS3 with arguably only 1 stand out game.

He's not comparing sales to date. He is comparing sales of the 360 compared to sales of the PS3 from launch day. To make it more simple for you guys, he is comparing Novmember 2005 (360's launch) to November 2006 (PS3's launch), December 05 to 06 etc

what? who told u the Ps3 is doing better than the 360? the 360 has sold 10m+ Wii 4.5m+ and Ps3 what? 2m maybe? shipping doesnt count as selling, altho for the Wii it does since they are gone once they hit the shelves. Considering the 360 has been out for a year and 4 monthes while the wii has been out for 4 monthes and the Wii is almost half the 360's base i say tahts pretty impressive.

What the TC is saying is that the PS3 is selling at a faster pace which is true. Most analysts predict that the PS3 will overtake the x360 in '08... current trends suggest that this is likely. But if you like your console anyway.... then who cares right?

I guess it doesnt matter that the 360 was out of stock in most places till march. I guess it doesnt matter that the ebay time of the 360 was 4X that of the PS3. why not  argue that the 360 had sold a 4.1 attach rate. and the PS3 only a 1.7 . but why argue that?

Use your brain. The X360 was hard to find in NA because it was spread thin from launching in other territories. But despite being in those extra territories, PS3 has still sold better. How?

Alright, just think about it....Microsoft had to supply units worldwide. Sony only has to supply units in two regions and finally the other regions. Now, why do you really think the 360's were hard to find? But why would you argue that?

Flawed logic from the OP.  There were many potential buyers that did not buy an Xbox360 at launch because they were waiting for the PS3 around March 2006. When Sony failed to meet that goal, some people decided 'why wait' and bought an Xbox 360.  Then when the PS3 came out in Nov 2006, many people thought it was too expensive and didn't have enough great games, so they bought either a Wii or a Xbox 360 instead. So where does that leave the OP?  The Xbox 360 is selling better than the PS3 when it counts. That is NOW!!! Not a year ago or at launch when the PS3 was not launched yet and many people were waiting to see how it would stack up.

The OP simply failed to account for gamers that put off buying a console because they wanted a PS3. But a year into the Xbox360 launch it has more games and the PS3 costs an arm and a leg. People's eyes are opening and momentum is clearly better in both the Wii and Xbox360 than it is with the PS3. Particularly in the US market.

Yeah, it's impossible for a hardware company such as Sony to supply units to two regions. It's something sooo hard to achieve now isn't it? Ofcourse, if PS3 units were still hard to find you know what tune you would have been singing? PRODUCTION PROBLEMS. People like you would still argue that the PS3 is not selling well, you would have said Sony did not solve the production problem and if they announced they had fixed those problems and PS3's were still hard to find, you guys would say that Sony is lying.....because of the fact the units are not on shelves. You would say so many things....

why? when the 360 sells in 36 other countries that the ps3 has sold 0 in....that alone smashes the ps3 u.s. numbers...then you gotta add in the u.s. numbers for 360...

Unless you keep pulling that junk about launch to launch, when the PS3s are in stock, whereas the 360 had massive shortage issues until Feb 2006 at least since they actually gave Europe some respect and launched there in the same year as the US and Japan.

Again, you are using VGCharts graphs of launch frame to launch time frame. I know what I am talking about, and that is a flawed comparison to say the least.

DuaneDog

Actually we're seeing the momentum shift to the Wii & PS3 in the US market. The PS3 costs $200 more than the x360 and doesn't even have 1/4 of the games it does yet.... and yet the 360 only outsold the PS3 by less than 50k in Jan. No one was expecting that and quite a few sites were surprised with how quickly the PS3 is gainnig traction.

[QUOTE="KeyWii"][QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"]It has not outsold the 360 anywhere but Japan. Not in total sales, not in US sales, and not in European sales.SpruceCaboose
Wrong. Read the first page graphs before pretending to know what you're talking about.

Again, you are using VGCharts graphs of launch frame to launch time frame. I know what I am talking about, and that is a flawed comparison to say the least.

It is a valid comparison, and the only way to compare both fairly and accurately. Because the PS3 has not been out on the market for the same time period. You would rather me compare a 16 month year old consoles' total sales to a 4 month old consoles total sales. That is a flawed comparison, and anyone who can perform simple math knows who comes out on top.

hmm since the ps3 launched its been outsold by the 360 each month. in the ps3 hottest selling points the 360 still outsold it. the ps3 is currently in last place when you look at sales, and it has the least amount of games out.

either way kiiway, the xbox 360 has further advanced it lead over the ps3 in the last 3 months by outselling the ps3 in the u.s.-----then you gotta factor in the other 36 countries it is also outselling the ps3 in....japan the only exception and that is weak because the ps3 sales there a low.

And PS3 with arguably only 1 stand out game.

the 360 was worse than the PS2 back then ( not that it isnt right now :P)

It's okay. lemmings will ignore this thread because they have no answers as to why our "failed" system has fared better, despite everything the 360 had going for it.

no,its cause of close minded people that wont buy it because it is a microsoft product, adding to that the 360 is flat out awesome.

All sorts of people buy Windows. X360 is just not a compelling system, especially for casual gamers.

wrong. once halo 3 hits, and the 360 SMASHES both wii and ps3 this holiday season what excuse will you dig out of you nether region?

Perhaps you've already forgotten last gen when both Halo & Halo 2 failed to crush the competition. The problem with Microsoft has always been that they have a gang of mediocre games with just a few hits... and most of their hits are all shooters with maybe 3-4 exceptions. They haven't changed their formula very much and are going to see similar results this gen.

Yes PS3 is selling at a faster rate. You could argue that 360 had supply problems, but it was supplying the whole world. The PS3 had supply/manufacturing issues also to a lesser extent and was shipped in only Japan and North America. And it's pretty silly to think that Halo 3 will stop this trend. I attribute this to one thing only really, since right now there's no killer app on the PS3; brand loyalty. Millions of casuals know only one name in videogames and that's Sony. This makes me wonder if Microsoft will take second or third place again and release a third XBOX.

Whatever helps you sleep better at night I suppose. I don't know why you hate the Xbox 360 so much. Either way, it's ahead in worldwide sales. Comparing sales from different time frames is kind of a weak argument but go ahead if it makes you feel better about any predicament in question.

You're right. The PS2 still outsells the X360... it has not convinced many people.

Here KeyWii, since you obviously want to see things your way, as evidenced by the massive amounts of times you have pulled this garbage arguement out, I will show you why it is flawed at the very least.
    1. The Xbox 360 had some momentum at launch, but it was still rather tepid since a majority of gamers were still waiting to see what Sony and Nintendo had in store for the next gen of gaming before they spent $400 on a system.
    2. The Xbox 360, at least in the US, had very small shipments until at least Feb 2006 due to manufacturing and the worldwide launch.
    3. The Xbox had a userbase of 23 million or so users worldwide. Not many of Sony's 120 million were ready to leap to a 360 until they knew what Sony was going to do.

The PS3, on the other hand, had the benefit of massive amounts of hype at the gate, and the public knew exactly what Nintendo and Microsoft were offering for their "next gen" systems.
The PS3 also had stock in stores by middle Jan, and then did not have to worry about product going to Europe that would lessen US supplies.
And the PS3 follows a system with a userbase at least 3 times as large as the Xbox.

And yet, since the PS3's launch, the Xbox 360 has continually outsold it during the same time frame. Not launch to launch, but right here, right now, day to day. They are on equal footing now, and the PS3 cannot outdo the 360.

You offer the weak argument. You' want to compare worldwide sales on a 16 month old console in many different territories to a 4 month old console in 2 different territories. You think thats a strong argument? A fair and accurate portrayal?
