Poll How do Fortnite and PUBG compare to past massively popular online FPS games? (29 votes)

They are better 21%
They are equal 10%
They are worse 69%

Think back to your hey-days of playing Quake, Counter Strike, Battlefield, Halo, Call of Duty, Team Fortess 2, Overwatch, etc. (or maybe you still play some of those now)

Yes, these games are all different, but this discussion is about the overall experience and fun you had playing these games.

As online fps games, have you had more fun / better experiences with the old stuff, or the new stuff? Do you like the new direction of battle royale?

Overwatch shits all over them.

Not interested in playing them.

I'll stick with Rising Storm 2, Day of Infamy and Battlefield 1.

I enjoyed cod mp, bf mp and insurgency. And I have no interest playing those battle Royale stuff. Now I only enjoy multiplayer in the souls games

I like PUBG but I'm not crazy about it, when I want to play PVP I play Gears 4 or Halo 5, I'm good at those games. I want to put in more time in BF1 as well. I love competitive online but I need to be good at them, or I get frustrated...so far I've not managed to find my stride in PUBG but I'm enjoying it casually.

Fortnite is a completely different story, I bought the game on release and love the PVE mode....I'm a big fan of PVE modes actually, just as much as competitive. I loved the tower defense mechanics and horde style PVE mode of Fortnite, and was looking forward to them expanding on that. Then the BR craze started, and I just couldn't get into it.....the building mechanics seem out of place for me in BR, maybe because I enjoyed the PVE mode so much I don't know. But watching these videos of people quickly building a vertical stairway to get away from an opponent, doesn't do it for me.

I followed Fortnite's development for years, and was so looking forward to its tower defense and horde modes.

But now I don't have any intention to play Fortnite anymore, what it turned into is just not my type of game.

@R4gn4r0k: yeah pretty much, and I actually bought it full price, when the PVE mode came out it was a 60$ game if I recall correctly. I played the whole weekend, loved it, was looking forward to seeing it expand, but instead it morphed into this BR craze lol....oh well

Haven't played them. Not really interested. I wish more people played Max Payne 3. Rockstar should remaster it and iron out the kinks. Also, make the DLC available for everyone, so that people actually play those maps.

I tried H1Z1 the other day. I tried running someone over and the car went right through them without damaging them. Part of the reason I deleted it.

They're a lot more shallow than most of those.

I enjoy them much more than any past online FPS. I haven't had this much fun with a multiplayer shooting game since the days of playing Goldeneye 007 on the N64.

A "do anything that it takes to live long enough to be the last man standing" type of mode is something that I have been wanting to see included in all of these online FPS games for a long time since I like playing as a lone-wolf and I like playing for survival instead of scoring the most points or completing objectives. So, I'm very happy that this type of mode has finally become popular.

I think they're just as good. I get the same competitive behavior from them, as I did from Halo 2 back in the day.

@ghosts4ever: agreed battle royal games are cancer on the multiplayer scene. The genre pisses me off, it's multiplayer with no real competitive nature. Oh I died... Time to leave and join a new game. LAAAAAMMMEE

Your point doesn't make much sense. Every single game listed other than that is die and respawn, die and respawn. Battle Royale games put a lot more at stake--your time. With TDM and conquest type games, there's nothing you're putting at stake. You die, take 5 seconds, and respawn again. There's no thrill. It can get rather boring. PUBG actually gets your heart rate up in fire fights. I love Battlefield games, but my heart rate never goes anywhere since I feel like I never lose anything when I die.

Only competitive online fps Games i played for any length of time were quake 3 arena (rail gun only servers) and planetside. Dunno why the genre doesnt really appeal to me any more.

I think I prefer the Battlefield type of experience in terms of MP overall, large scale battles with objectives/classes etc.

That being said, Battle Royal adds a good ammount of tention to everything.

I think its a good new addition to the range.

I actually think they are good for the industry because the development cycle for these games should be shorter and less expensive. This should allow more companies to take more chances on games, throughout all genres. I definitely don't want all games to be like this, but I think its good to have diversification in the industry.

Love both styles for what they are. Battle Royale is totally different gameplay. It’s not about amassing kills so much as the high of winning each fire fight. Most of the game is just the building tension as you forage for supplies and travel to the next smaller safe area. Before PUBG I never imagined I’d be so happy to find a backpack lol.
