Poll GTA vs Assassins creed. Which AAA mainstream open world series is better? (45 votes)

GTA 62%
Assassins Creed 38%

Hello friends

So these two are 2 of most popular, mainstream AAA open world series. which one is your preference?

well I disliked both series and consider both as some of most overrated but out of those its Assassins creed easily. even though i never liked AC2, but compare to any GTA its masterpiece plus AC have AC4 black Flag which is great and own any GTA game ever. although never liked Origins or become RPG anyways.

GTA on other hand did absolutely nothing good and get rated 10s all the time. so in my opinion, GTA series made Assassins creed series a masterpiece.

so my friends which one you prefer? lets vote.

Assassin's Creed

Of course GTA wins, but Rockstar has let me down a number of times, and Assassin's Creed on the other hand positively surprised me.

GTA has been a console franchise ever since GTA III

Assassin's Creed has been a PC franchise through and through from Unity onwards.

Assassin’s Creed by far. Think AC is better on pretty much every regard.

Gameplay in both franchises is mediocre. But gameplay in AC is still significantly better than GTA.

  • You can climb and interact with the environment.
  • There is a stealth system.
  • Combat is much more varied, with som level of skill.
  • There is meaningful progression.
  • You have much more freedom how you tackle missions. In GTA you follow a script.

The setting in AC games are far more interesting to me. Ancient civilizations and all that jazz.

Story, characters etc are also better in AC. The satire in GTA is just embarrassing.

Rockstar focus their resources on crazy details like flip flops, while ignoring the fundamentals that make a game enjoyable. It’s impressive on some level, but unfortunately makes their games real boring.

RDR2 demolishes them both. I don't like gta and certainly no ass creed, but at least gta has the qualities of Rockstar. What does Ass Creed have? Ubi shit stains is what it has.

What do you mean AC is bad? You can fly a hawk over 100+ camps, set a marker over every enemies head, then stealth kill them easily while seeing the markers through walls. I think its entertaining, especially when you're on your 70th camp doing the same shit all over and over and over and over and over and over again. When you're done, next Ass Creed comes out, and you're doing the same shit again, but in a different setting. God this series is fucking awful.

By this logic, COD game sell so they also reinvent itself. lol

its a brand name that even non gamers buy and play GTA5. i heard GTA5 praise more from non gamers who barely play games at all than actual hardcore gamers at all.

its sad state if this pile of trash GTA5 make more money than any movies. no wonder why i hate mainstream gaming.

I'm going with Assassin's Creed. I personally like the open-world and the same goes for Watch Dogs. Anyone doesn't know how to play Ubi's rule book of open-world shouldn't be playing them at all.

Not a fan of either, but GTA has always had a better realized vision of this IMO (although, while I've played the most recent GTAV I have not played AC Origins or Odyssey and my perception is that they may be a big step up and so I may not be able to fairly answer - I do own a free copy of Origins but who has the time really?).

I haven't enjoyed a GTA game since Vice City. I gave GTAV a try on GamePass and was frustrated with the character control. So, it's Assassin's Creed for me.

That picture is false. GTA5 is not even among the top 5 highest-grossing games, let alone the highest-grossing media title. Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Street Fighter II, World of Warcraft, Dungeon Fighter Online, CrossFire and League of Legends have each made over $10 billion, far more than GTA5.

EDIT:

The movie comparison is also disingenuous. They're comparing $10 box office ticket sales to $60 video game sales. Of course the latter is going to make more money, despite the former selling way more tickets. Avatar and Endgame each sold well over 200 million tickets in a few months, compared to GTA5 selling 130 million units (mostly bundled) in 7 years.

It's also worth noting that movies make additional money from home video and merchandise sales. The Disney movies Cars, Toy Story 3 and Frozen each generated over $8 billion in merchandise sales. The only video games that generate more money from merchandise sales are Pokemon games.

This is what you call "fake news". One media outlet (MarketWatch) made up a false claim (GTA being the highest-grossing media title) without doing any fact-checking (actually comparing it to other video games), and then a bunch of other media outlets ran with it and peddled the fake news for clickbait.

Games that have made more money than GTA5 ($6 billion)...

World of Warcraft Leads Industry With Nearly $10 Billion In Revenue

  • Space Invaders - $13.93 billion
  • Pac-Man - $12.81 billion
  • Street Fighter II - $10.61 billion
  • World of Warcraft - $9.23 billion

Dungeon Fighter Online gross lifetime revenue exceeds $10bn

  • Dungeon Fighter Online - $10 billion

Sony Pictures signs on for 'Crossfire' movie based on the popular FPS

  • CrossFire - $10 billion

Monster Strike Revenue Passes $7.2 Billion, Making It the Highest Earning App of All Time

  • Monster Strike - $7.2 billion
  • Puzzle & Dragons - $7 billion

Well I don't like the direction that the AC games have gone in, but I also haven't really enjoyed a GTA game a huge amount since San Andreas... but if I had to choose, I'd probably go with GTA.

GTA as a series wins for me, but Assassin's Creed Odyssey is easily the best game between AC and GTA, even though I loved the hell out of GTAV.

exactly. only thing i got fun in 3D GTA was messing around in vice city and thats it. actual missions suck and also shooting.

and thats why many kids loved GTA back then because messing around in city and puting cheat codes where cars fly. barely anyone completed it. and thats why series become so mainstream and popular among non gamers.

@Jag85: I don't even know where to start.

GTA 3 was probably the most revolutionary game of the 00s decade, possibly even the entire 21st century thus far.

GTA Vice City was better in every way.

GTA SA was damn near a perfect game in every manner. A solid 9.9/10.

GTA IV is one of the worst games ever made.

GTA V would be GOTY any other year that The Last of US wasn't in.

gameplay is amazing, lots of variety, each with the most immersive open worlds of any game at their respective release (except GTA IV, which was a downgrade in every way).

Story could be better, I agree.

I try to like Grand Theft Auto games but can never really get into them. A lot to do but no depth in each individual thing.. it's like a franchise lost in ideas. As far as AC, at least it knows what it is and doesn't try to be something different. On that note I easily voted AC.

I think in terms of production, GTA gets the win. As much as I dislike AC nowadays, I still prefer the series over late GTA. San Andreas and Vice City were the shit back in the day.

They are both really good. If they had the climbing mechanics in GTA, that would be amazing. Its really hard to pick but i may have to pick GTA. While there are a lot of AC games, GTA is really in need of a new GTA game.

AC by a million miles. I liked some of the earlier AC games but could take them or leave them but Origins was a good step in the right direction though the lead characters were really boring and they were still finding their way with the RPG mechanics but Odyssey is a classic and might be my game of the gen.

GTA is just GTA and is like all Rockstar games: they give you worlds to mess about in. That's pretty much all they give you. RDR2 bored me rigid. Supposedly there is a good story to unravel there. Well I challenge people to stay awake long enough to discover it. Gameplay is soooo slow and boring.

Ubisoft's AC teams make games. They have been hit and miss along the way but whether you like them or not, they are videogames. Rockstar makes worlds for you to f*** around in. That was okay when I was like 8 years old, I am no longer amazed and say 'omg look you can do this thing haha'.

I'll take Valhalla over whatever boring BS Rockstar are preparing to serve up next any day of the week.

Well I don't like the direction that the AC games have gone in, but I also haven't really enjoyed a GTA game a huge amount since San Andreas... but if I had to choose, I'd probably go with GTA.

This is best GTA imo.

GTA3 - I agree it's one of the most influential games of the last two decades. But it's aged horribly, and the gameplay mechanics are clunky and shallow.

Vice City - An improvement over GTA3 in every way, but still suffers from similar gameplay issues.

San Andreas - I agree it's a classic. While the gameplay issues are still there, it was one of the most ambitious open-world games for its time. Best game in the series.

GTA4 - I agree it's a trash game.

GTA5 - I'd prefer almost every other GOTY in the last decade over GTA5. Yeah, it improved over GTA4 in every way, but it's barely an improvement over SA. There's no excuse for the same old shallow and clunky gameplay mechanics. It's like a jack of all trades, master of none.

It was not even perfect when it was released as it released same year as Half life 2 released let alone now.

game suffer from terrible gameplay issues like any of old GTA game. even messing around is nowhear near as fun as vice city.

What? VC is my favourite GTA ever, but SA is the best sandbox game of all time. You could play pool, cut your hair, ride BMX bikes, do tricks, get fat, build muscle in the gym, eat food, and so much more. I remember reading Playstation magazine back in the where they listed 200 things you can do in San Andreas. it was literally 8 magazine pages long lol

@Jag85:

Well I will give you one thing; the GTA games age horribly because they each raise to bar so high each time.

My first GTA was VC back when I was 9 years old. I remember trying GTA3 after having completed VC it was complete garbage for me. But I do realise and acknowledge it was the most revolutionary game of the 2000s.

VC didn't age well either because even though it's the best GTA ever, it's hard going back to such a small and limited open world after the vastness and variety of SA.

GTA V right now is only surpassed by RDR2 as an immersive open world IMO but when GTA VI comes out it will be impossible to go back to GTA V... Unless they do a GTA IV again...

quality > quantity.

Sand andreas have everything but done badly. who cares about cuting hairs and going to gym in games?

the actual playing part suck.
